  1. Thanks for the info chaps, how about selling the idea to the wife and staying married? Cheers, Tim.
  2. Hi, could any Dodge owners help me out with a question please. How high/what clearance do you need to get one comfortably into a garage? We have a garage which is in very poor condition and needs replacing. I have problems getting the jeep in and out, neeeding to take the hood off to get in and out. During the spring this year I sowed the seeds of trying to convince Mrs general as to why we should have a Command Car and how our lives would be enriched if we had one!! We are having plans drawn to replace the existing building with a new one, it would be silly not to build the new one with dimentions to fit anyfuture purchases!! If you have any ideas as to the height required and how to swing the purchase and stay married-that would be great as well!! Thanks in advance, Tim.
  3. Hi all, just a quick thanks to all who made this event possible last weekend. Saturday looked like it was going to be a wash out with heavy rain all the way down from Somerset, but in the afternoon the sun shone. Sunday was a great day, with sunshine all day. I have attended this event before and found it a little---sort your self out kind of style, not good if you dont feel comfortable pushing your self in. This year our Jack was in charge of the vehicle run and BOB transport-what a transformation!! had hardly landed when told to dump gear and get on the road. Sunday for me almost equaled last years A&E, great vehicles, great company, great leader-sorry jack. It finally clicked with my mate & my godson as to why I bought the J thing. Sunshine, winscreen down, great convoy-what more could a man or woman want!! The bonus was Jack got to exercise his whistle in pracice for next year!. The BOB cast were brilliant and never too precious to answer questions or sign our stuff for us, it s good to see on a recent post that some will join us at A.E. Gushing over, thanks to all concerend for a great memorable weekend. Cheers, Tim. :D:D:D P.S hopefully lots of funds raised for the Dick Richards memorial trust.
  4. Hi Jack, i have been in contact with Robin about comming down for the weekend. Please count me in for the vehicle convoy/transport duties. If I can be of any help, please count me in with the Jeep. See you on Saturday. Cheers, Tim.
  5. Hi All. I just thought I would share this information with you all. I was recently given the nod on this DVD by a mate, i dont really like Al's comedy style, but this DVD/series shows him in a new light. The 2 DVD set shows Al travelling WW2 battlefields, interveiwing veterans, and using WW2 vehicles and equipment. He travels from the British coast through Normandy ending up in Berlin via his trusty Jeep. Now down in price on Amazon to £3.95, this is definatly one to buy. Enjoy: cheers, Tim.
  6. Thanks for all the relpies so far. My friend was obviously a little reluctant to post on here, because money has changed hands. I have explained that every day I read the HMVF forum and G503, and every day I learn more about jeeps, also that we are a friendly buch and all help each other. He hopefully will post pictures on Monday. Other odd parts I spotted were: Rear exit exhuast Fuel tank has left hand offset filler-to side of seat pad Glass fuel gauge mounted on to tank top-beside filler Two shackes to fit onto the top of the bumper brackets Any way thanks again and hopefully we will see some pictures next week. Cheers, Tim.
  7. All, my mate has just purchased a "Willys" jeep, which I had a look at last night. He thought it was a 1942 but it set alarm bells ringing for me, so a quck question? did all years and variants of wartime jeeps have tool box lockers in the rear bodies? His has none just a flat deck right through where the locker lids would be. M38? Thanks in advance. Tim. P.S sorry no pictures.
  8. I was thinking along the same lines. Is it possible/practical to convert the older engines such as those in the Dodge WC/Command car to run on LPG. Cheers, Tim.
  9. Hi, does anybody have a contact for vehicle entries to the above? Jack? Thanks in advance, Tim.
  10. Hi,2 years ago i was in exactly the same position that you are now. I took a ride in a mates Ford GPW and was hooked-I had to have one. I agree with all the comments posted so far. My advice, when you go to look at a jeep, take a jeep owner with you, then stop and try to take a step back and look at it without the rose coloured spectacles. I read all the "all American Wonder Books by Ray Cowdry, but bought alone. I bought mine from ebay in a semi restored state, big mistake!! beware of anything that has been stood still for some time regardless of it being rebuilt. I had to replace all "rebuilt" brakes because the system had not been filled, so ruining all seals. Water pump the same, seal was shot through drying out. Canvas was new from beechwood and folded at time of sale, turned out it had been stored in the wet at some point= rotted in the middle. This added to a myriad of small compononts that were missing and had to be replaced. Two years later we are on the road and looks fairly good? Classic military vehicle magazine October 2010 page 64 i think. I dont think mine worked out a cheap vehicle but i have learnt what all the parts look like and it has been great fun doing it. My wife of course tells another story!! cheers, Tim:nut:
  11. Hi all. I dont want to appear thick or anything? but could anyone give me some advice on the above question. Firstly I would like to purchase a Garand for my jeep rifle rack. There is a Belgian company now selling the Denix Garand for around £110.00, will I be breaking the law by carrying one in my vehicle. I know other posters have gone this way because of theft etc. Will I be more compliant by buying a new spec de-act? Last weekend i spoke to a vehicle owner sporting many replicas on his vehicle, his opinion was they are only wall hangers-but reading the forum postings it would seem a proper de act is the only compliant way. Secondly, in the future I intend to fit a pintle and repro 50cal, is attending our usual mvt events for display enough to comply with the VCR or do I actually need to belong to a re-enactors club. I only ask because many people i have met this year seem to have both on their vehicles, i would hate to spend some hard earned£££ only to find I have crossed the line. Thanks in advance, Tim.
  12. Great news Jack, i have heard so much positive feedback from both those who attended and from those who heard about A&E through the grape vine. It was certainly a life changing moment for me, especially me being a newby to the Military vehicle movement. I am proud to be able to say "I was there". Although still a newby it was great to be with like minded people out on the road and in camp, much nicer than being parked in a show all day. Can i put my "J" thing and me forward as entrants for the next one -please. Regards, Tim & Choosy Suzy
  13. We were near the middle of the convoy. Tim (driver) Simon hazard spotter, 43 willys MB 101st airborne jeep. Cheers, Tim.
  14. I know its all been said already but Simon & Tim (airborne Jeep) choosey Suzy, would like to thank all who made the weekend so great for us. A truly awsome weekend and a great team effort. Thank you to this dispatch riders for keeping us safe, sorry i can only remember Kit by name. I know how much time Jack and team has put into this project-but, with a gathering of so much expertise and like minded people the HMVF team have proved how to put on an event. Thanks again to all we met, thanks to the HMVF team for an event which will be held as a bench mark for all other military vehicle events.
  15. jeep + 2 persons please. We hope to join you on Friday afernoon for the weekend. Cheers, Tim.
