I have a jeep advertised on Milweb, I have had an inquiry about purchasing the vehicle, the wording was - we are very interested in purchasing your vehicle, please hide the vehicle from other buyers. We will pay you for the vehicle and shipping and you arrange the vehicle movement. It had scam written all over it. I have advised them to seek another vendor as I wasnt prepared to get involved in shipping anything any where. It went strangely quiet. Unfortunately our hobby is has been identified as worthy as trying a to scam, presumably because of the value of some vehicles. Unfortunately an unsavory part of today's internet use. Tim. Thanks

Hi guys, Simon and myself are trying to fit some new piston rings into his newly bored engine, but we are having problems with the rings. The rings are made by Hastings, and were packed in 65, they have come with no fitting instructions and no markings indicating top and bottom orientation. We are ok for the oil scraper ring-bottom, but cant work out the middle and top. One set of rings has a grove around the inside of the ring, the other set has a step on the outer edge. any ideas on which way round these should be ? Thanks in advance, Tim & Simon.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I have fitted a replacement master cylinder from Dallas as part of the refit, I think its an M series one as it doesnt has a sloping top. I am sure that its a soild hex plug with no vent, should it have one? the old sloping top cylinder has a pipe brazed on the top to connect to a remote filling pot!! that said we have been bleeding and adjusting with an open top to refill the brake fluid. Next option is to try the old shoes to see if i can get any adjustment on them. I will keep you posted. Cheers, Tim.

Hi all, I am having problems with my WC 57 brakes. The command car had been laid up by a previous owner for at least 5 years, so when I bought it, lots of stuff had perished or corroded, including most of the braking system. We have replaced just about everything, Master cylinder, brake cylinders, all brake lines and all linings. And bled the system. We just cannot get the brakes shoes to back right off, if we turn back the adjusters top and bottom, so that we can get the drums on, we get dragging brakes/overheating drums etc. It seems to be a problem on all the drums. Has anybody had a simular problem with their WC, or any other ideas to get the brakes to adjust properly? Thanks in advance, Tim from Shepton Mallet.

Hi, I am planning on taking the vehicles out to a few more shows this year, but have noticed the increasing requirement for Public Liability Insurance as well as obviously having the vehicle insured. This also seems to be a recommendation/requirement at certain militaria/aero jumble events just to have a table to sell your odds and sods. Does any body have a company that they use who covers this type of insurance? Thanks in advance, Tim.

Hi all. The wife and I are considering buying a 90 defender from Withams. We are considering this purchase mainly for pulling a trailer, mainly with a mini digger on board to France. I know most ex mod lr's are naturally aspirated, so wont set the world on fire towing wise, thats not a problem. I am aware of the need for the OEGL license to take my jeep abroad, does any forum member travel abroad (France) with a newer type ex MOD vehicle? and if so do you encounter any problems. Obviously if there are any restrictions or problems with this type of vehicle using ferries, its better to know now, rather than find out after the purchase! Any of you done this before? cheers, Tim.

Hi all. I was wondering if anybody on here might have previously imported a complete vehicle or MV or parts from Norway to the UK. I am contemplating a purchase, but am finding it impossible to get any trust worthy sources. On equiring a method to pick up myself from Brevik, its a three day round trip with a car and trailer. I have left enquires with an importer who said he could pick up from the Norway address and deliver to the UK on a lorry, the return call promised, has not materiaised. I have used a broker site to get 6 promised quotes via a shipping company, not one has got back to me. Can anyone point me in the right direction, it cant be that hard, I know vehicles are regulary being brought in from the states, a much greater distance. Your thoughts or pointers would be a great help. Cheers, Tim.

Hi Jack, just booked in and paid. Jeep and Trailer, I have even convinced the Wife to come along and dress up! So will be 3 adults in number. I would like to bring my Godson Jack who is 12 on one day, if thats ok? Is it when you become 50 something that you encourage the woman in you life to dress up? I seem to remember spending a lot of time and effort persuading her to take them off!! Looking forward to June. I have had these parts knocking around for several years and always wondered what they were, can you help? Picture one, very heavy plate probably 25mm thick. About 10 inches square. Picture 2&3 looks like some form of hitch or latch. Your thought gentlemen please. Cheers, Tim.

Take some spare tubes with you. We were charged 90 euros for mending two punctures on some combat rims that we had aready sripped out for the guy, avoid the tyre garage in Aromanches beside the militaria shop at all costs!! Take some spare oil filter/timing cover return flexi pipes, we had one burst on us. Cheers, Tim.
