    Mark

This Moke was featured in Mini World in June 1998 its a modified civvy Moke which the owner modified with bits of British Army surplus kit if anyone wants a scan of the orignal article let me know and I'll scan it.

The Military Moke is featured in Mini Magazine April 1997 same as above if anyone wants scan let me know.

  2. I have taken everything apart, and in the process of cleaning everything up.

On the actual turret ring, where the bearing wheels run, I would assume that is not painted? Should it be greased to stop it rusting, or left dry, bare metal?

Grease attracts dirt and likelihood of you removing the turret once everything’s working is remote. Just imagine the fun you would have cleaning it off when its altogether with added dirt.

  3. I did see a new No2 Mk2 Generator at Stoneleigh on Sunday. I think it was on the Withams stand, but I'm not sure. I had a Radio Champ once, and I remember that the gearbox in these generators do lock up, so always get a spare - and the best of luck fitting it, as it is not an easy job. You do need the relevant control box for it which goes in front of the passenger seat.

Marcus Glenn had them on his stand didn't look at the price and I think he had the early style rubber aerial mounts £30 was on the side of the box.

If you're Champ is FFW it will be on the data plate under the bonnet and if it has been fitted with a radio it might still have the holes in the body side where the cabling has been.

  4. Andy I don't think the part no has been shortened, I think that is the Franklin part no. It doesn't resemble a NSN even a shortened one, which would only have 7 digits. It would be unprecedented to have a part NSN like this that splits the 2-digit NCB, which anyway for the UK would give "9" as the start digit.

Why not e-mail/phone them & ask?

Hi Clive I suspect that I might already have the answer having had the chance to lay it out on the ground today. The canvas looks to be an end piece for a 12by12 tent. If only I'd waited a day instead of rushing when it was dark. I had a quick look at the pictures on Franklins website and I'm even more inclined to think its an end piece.

Many thanks for the swift reply

  5. It says on the tent "TUM", Truck,Utility, Medium. This is the 110 Land Rover.

TUM(HD) is the Pinzgauer, TUL is the 90 L/R.

    Hope this helps.

J&S Franklin were the pioneers in CP tentage. They developed the Land Rover 12x9 tents before they were reduced to 9x9 & I believe make newer "Wolf" versions.

TUM fair enough & if it was for LWB Wolf it would be TUM(HS)

Might it be Tent Universal Marquee perhaps?

But I wonder whether this is a production military item at all because of the part number: 8401-1201 which is preceded by their initials. Suggesting it is the manufacturer's part number.

Can you try erecting it, to see how it looks when strung up against something?

No poles... I'll drape it over my car and see what it looks like, it does seem to have been used. Its a pain that the number has been shortened which makes identifying it harder.

    Many thanks for the help

  6. Panzer 38T based on the Czech design. Also made in Sweden. It's a great little tank - a beautiful restoration. At the other end of the scale I still have the Fujimi model of one I built in 1974.

The other vehicle is a kfz - a Horch, I think. Someone will know better.

    MB

Not certain but I think it might be a Kfz.2 Stoewer

Many thanks I should have asked at the time but you know how it is.

  7. Sand the number down above the front hatch it should have numerous layers with 02DA74 or another like 00EA18. You could also try sanding the area where the circle is with a number 4 in it as the army reg was also painted in that position. Might as well do it now if you're going to re-spray / paint it.

  8. How good an engineer are you (serious question)? And what acess do you have to:

    1) Either an original round, or drawings there of, to use as a master??

    2) A lathe or similar machine tool to turn the shape in wood??

The process is fairly simple - from the orginal or the drawings turn up a wooden mater core - possibly in two peices for the charge and the tail section. Forget moulding the fins, these can be fabricated from sheet metal later on.

Once you have the master core mark the centre line around it, cover it in release agent, then build up the fibreglass matting to make one half of the pattern. Needs to be about 4 or 5mm thick so it's rigid. Repeat for the other side making sure you have a nice wide lip on each half for clamping and alignment.

Once the fibreglass has cured place the two halves together with the master in place and drill two holles through the lip either side and use some bolts the same size as the hole to act as alignment guides and initial clamps.

Drill another couple of holes though the top surface of one half to act as pouring and air vents.

Split the mould, remove the master, coat the inside faces with release agent, clamp back together and pour in the resin to be used to make the actual projectile replica making sure all the air is expelled from the mould.

Once the resin is cured, split the mould and remove the part, clean up the surface and fabricate tail fins from sheet steel or ally then fit them to the moulding.

That basically is it...... Probably take you a few days to get the mould right then you can turn out replica mortar rounds as fast as the resin will cure

(no prizes for guessing what mug had to spend 6 months in a pattern shop as part of his apprenticeship...)

    Hi Neil,

What would you use as a releasing agent?

  9. Does anyone know what fuel the No.12 Cooker runs off I'm thinking that its more than likely going to be diesil but... I would like to know before putting diesil fuel in it.

  10. "exclusive agreement to distribute only through WH Smith's,"

This is happening with all mags from that publisher plus possibly some others.

Shame to do this I bought my first CMV at Borders (not sure that I've spelt that correctly) but from memory admittedly twenty years ago as a paper boy WH supplied the newsagents papers. I suspect that you will still be able to receive CMV by order from your local newsagent. Ask

  11. I regularly visit both Anchor depots, but rarely find anything worth buying these days.

The one I went to is at or near Notts Countys ground where's the other one?

I did think that most of what I saw was expensive tat, the canvas I didn't think I could go to wrong with for a tenner
