  1. Wonderful aeroplane the the Mosquito can't remember where I read it suspect Flypast Magazine a pilot said to a trainee whatever the Spitfire can do the mossie can do as well as fast and come back if it loses an engine (words to that effect anyway).

Unfortunately for me and the missus (plus the pilot / navigator) we saw the Mosquito crash at Barton damn shame! It wasn't even an airshow just an aero jumble day.

It was always the plane we looked for on the way to Blackpool in the summer as the railway passed close to the airfield boundary.

  2. This country is going sorry let me rephrase that has gone absolutely potty I remember buying and playing with cap guns as bought from the paper shop round the corner. Did my parents think anything was wrong with that no.... it was a part of growing up cow boys and indians, climbing trees / lamp posts and conkers. I hope it's not just me but everywhere I look some liberal softy is spoiling r kids upbringing. Not meant to be political but

Going for a lie down winter cold has caught me and won't let me play

  3. Hi

I believe not seen with my own eyes only google earth that there 'r' three Chieftains plus another two military vehicles in a yard in Eccles / Manchester. I saw the recovery version in a yard in Urmston a few years back. Still there? I've been meaning to go and have a look haven't got round to it yet.

  4. Nice Jeep

Good to see something a little different to the normal standard US Jeep. :-) I suppose that it's good that people ask about the differences it at least gives the owner a chance to explain the colour / markings and dispense a little history as well.

  5. Should be easy to correct misconceptions with a good information display in front of the vehicle .If they can't read !!!! It's up to the owner to become the Historian and teach.

That's me done for with the reading and writing bit

Red turret and bins is the way I'll proably go, a recentish article in Classic Military had the warriors painted all in red and a potted history of BATUS. I'll have to dig it out. That in itself should have the majority of the information on BATUS.

  6. Hi Clive, Mark & Richard

Thanks for the pictures Clive it's appreciated

What was BATUS?? and why paint MV's this colour.

    Excuse my ignorance

I own three Ferrets (two still under restoration) one of them will be painted in the colours of the Danish Brigade group attached to BAOR while they were serving with the UN in Cyprus.

The other I’d like to paint in BATUS colours, I've not seen a Ferret painted in those colours in the UK before now...... not sure if that’s good or bad thing.

    Best regards,

    Andy

  7. Hi All,

Has anyone got any pictures of Ferrets in service at BATUS, I'm thinking about painting one of my Ferrets in those colours. I've only been able to find one drawing of a Ferret with a yellow turret and red bins not quite the same as a picture

    Help!!!

  8. If your law abiding and have a hobby that's a little different to the rest of society getting p***ed - watching eastenders as far as the government is concerned your a legitimate target for them to legislate against. To me it makes sense to lock my deac's away from view of the idiots that don't care if we lose r hobby as there only concern is where the next fix is coming from.

I'm all for having a licence to own a deac lock the things up treat as if it were live don't give em an excuse to take them away!

  9. Classic Military Vehicles and Military Machines International have both had articles on the 2CV. Philip Chatfield wrote the article for CMV about his fathers experiences with the 2CV.

Getting back to Mini's I've seen articles about the 'military' Mini Moke in one of the Mini mags plus the Aussie version. Seem to remember that the Aussie version was a replica I'll have a look over the weekend. From memory the Moke wasn't taken up because it lacked four wheel drive and the two engined version there was difficulty in synchronising the engines for gear changes and the like. Portugal was the last country to build the Moke into the eighties I think. Moke production in the UK stopped in the late sixties easly seventies wonder why ahem couldn't have been the sunny weather in this country could it!

Scrapyard challenge a few years back had a twin engined taxi which had to be driven to the events but only one engine was allowed to be used on the highway illegal to use both so they said. Taxi won the series / show.

  10. Hi John,

I've just got to many Ferret bits knocking around typically all big bits and not enough space. Whoever last fiddled with the engine had left all the spark plugs out and when I removed the cylinder head it had rust drips like the titanic. With more time it would have been saveable

  11. Hi All,

I've just scrapped a seized B60 UNF engine I offered the camshaft to a person on milweb who's asking for a camshaft for a B60 BSF engine. My question is ... is the camshaft on a unf engine compatible with a bsf engine.

Reading page 28 in (In National Service) it mentions that the crankshaft was changed...

I know I should of put this on the page I might be stupid but .... it seemed a shame not to offer it if it could be used.

    Any ideas?

    My experience anyway decent people.
