  1. Is the ferret british rim 900x16 or american pattern 900x16.

Moore tyres/ ag equipt tyres........ should be able to help you as they import MRF bar treads at reasonable prices for american pattern 900x 16.

I think the american pattern tyres can be fitted on british pattern rims with a bit of machining of the rims or removing rubber from the inside lip of the tyres..............I dont know the full details of doing this.

Plenty of ferrets in aust........talk to other owners.

    Ron

The bead on American tyres is different to the type of tyre fitted to Ferret rims and as the rims are made out of aluminium I wouldn't machine them to fit, but thats just me. In the UK we can still get hold of tyres that will fit the rims it would seem that on the face of it thats harder to find the correct tyre to fit the rims in Australia. Bummer for them

Thanks for taking the time to reply its appreciated.

  2. Good on you for going out there nothing ventured nothing gained....

Some of the Jeeps looked quite good I am not really interested Jeeps but having one redone as it was in French Foreign Legion service would be interesting.

  3. Hi All

does anyone know what type of first aid box should be fitted to the Austin Champ also what size is it please ? I need one but am unsure of details.

    Cheers RR.

I think its the top one in the picture below I have seen them on ebay before now. You have to make sure you buy the small tin not the larger tin box.

Champ owners with a bit off luck will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong

  4. Without getting into the legalities and going round and round in what constitutes a special vehicle or an engineering vehicle or even an educational vehicle the onus is on the owner to have the vehicle correctly MOT'd and taxed. If you have an accident and the insurance company deems that the vehicle should have been MOT'd and not exempted the insurance company will void the insurance leaving you uninsured and liable for any damages that the other vehicle owner has inccured. If you can say that you have enough money in you're bank account or the value of you're house plus you're parents house and pension pot to pay off a personnel injury claim then go ahead and exempt you're vehicle.

    Nough said

  5. Hi!

Thanks for your help, but no -

Both Tents, the small one that fits on the side and the 9x9 i know very good, but thats not what i mean...

The tent i look for details is - i am pretty sure - an "Command Post Role" tent (dont know if it is the right name...), and the first row of the tent Tubes are permanently fixed on the back of the fighting Vehicle....

    Cheers Gung

I know what type of tent you mean now I have had two in the past both sold on to buy Ferret spares, by all accounts these command type of tents r quite rare so good luck finding one.

  6. So I bought me an RB44 and am in the process of making it roadworthy (?)

But mine is a RB44 FIRST STRIKE and I found after the auction Witham had sold the corresponding demountable fire fighting part at the same auction.

I would love to have the ability treturn the RB to it's original spec but don't know where to find the demountable back

Any ideas where they ended up ?

"Demountable Fire Fighting Unit c/w 678 Litre Bowser Etc Manufactured by PSP Safety Products Ex Reserve"

  7. Against our better judgement B Bank has been split and steam cleaned (huge amounts of sandy greasy gunk coming out of the waterways), the valve have been taken out and cleaned. The inlet and exhaust ports have been de-coke'd ready to be re-faced.

All they coolant transfers removed, soaked in vinegar and then cleaned up (I did that - vey proud of myself).

We've had another visit from the gremlins: all the valves were moved around in the holding block and emery paper has been taken to some of the ports........

    All fixable but blummin' annoying.

Could you not use a hammer on the gremlins fingers, said gremlin won't touch without asking again!

  8. Sometime postwar there was talk of putting 2CVs onto British carriers.

    1. Allow movement of men and kit around the ship.

    2. Available to marines after landing.

    3. Reputedly a 4-man lift to get from 1. to 2.

I am sure Google will be your friend.

Classic Military Vehicle magazine have had an article on 2CV's a long long time ago. I also think Military Machines International have had an article on the same vehicle. The reason they were trialled or used was that helicopters couldn't

lift the heavier 4WD then in use. Piston engined Westland Whirlwinds (Sikorsky S-55).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Whirlwind_(helicopter)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Wessex

Wasn't the Lightweight Land Rover designed to be stripped down so that the Westland Wessex could lift it?

Jeeps on carriers a three wheeled version was used on carriers postwar adaption?

  9. I made sure that I received my form from Withams on the day that I picked the vehicle up, they were reluctant to give me the form. Why the reluctance I don't know the scrap of paper that I was asked to sign didn't seem to be correct.

Always better to do it the correct way as it always seems to turn round and bite you if you try any other way. Maybe thats just me

  10. Andy, Iain, that is brilliant, that all makes perfect sense, thankyou! I agree with you about the transformer.

This has given me another idea though... The iPhone uses a 3 ring plus tip mini jack, (ground, left, right and mic). In theory, I recon it would be possible to get an iPhone cable with 3 ring plus tip mini jack, hack it to pieces and wire it to a Clansman 7 pin plug, thus allowing the mic in the headset to be fed into the phone for calls and obviously audio from the phone sent into the headsets. I think iPhone mic on A and audio on D and E with ground on G.

Downside would be that everyone on the vehicle harness could listen into and talk into the conversation!

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks again!

    Dunc

I was tempted to ask the same question nice one

  11. yep that time again! ANTI FREEZE for our mvs dont want to hear any stories about wanted next year, new engine due to block cracking!!!!!:cool2:

Don't take offence but shouldn't this be in most engines already as a basic anti corrosion jobby?
