  1. What about military tent heaters with a flue?? I have one of those I wouldn't use it overnight myself its just plain common sense. I bought mine to keep me warm in the winter while I was working under canvas.

I've experienced carbon monoxide poisoning from an old house not fun.

  2. I would like to clean the canvas hood and doors of my Auto Union Munga. I have tried using soap and water with poor

results and have asked a number of boating chandlers what can be used. I was amazed at their lack of knowledge - do they not clean the sails on their yachts or are the sails all now manufactured from plastic.

I have read somewhere that a pressure washer can be used but as the canvas is fairly old I am reluctant to do this.

Any information or advise would be welcome.

If its cotton canvas I wouldn't like to power wash it all that will do is destroy the fibres and more importantly wash any waterproofing off. If its been sealed / waterproofed before the dirt might be ingrained or stuck to the canvas.

  3. I'd presume the engines or at the very least the cranks are there somewhere as the props are!

Not sure if its a radial engine or an inline engine if it was the first I suspect that most of the cylinders would be removed in the ditching.

At the moment it doesn't look that good and I'll be surprised if it doesn't soak up more money than expected. I would like to hope that they had a contingency plan for any unexpected issues. I do hope that it is better than it looks at first glance now that they have raised it from the sea. I only wish that it looked as good as some of the aircraft that have been raised from the Norwegian Fjords and Russia.

This is one of the aircraft I was thinking about just for how it looks visually

  4. What's the point of having a walker if he doesn't keep an eye on what's going on around him.. the kid coming in from the right reminds me of the argument that Ian2b got in at W&P with a parent, a kid tried to stick his arm in the track of Mark Harts 432 as it passed by, Ian grabbed him & pulled him out the way saving his arm.. You need a lot more marshalls when moving big kit like this about..

Commander in the turret with comms should be the last resort in this case then! As a thought try walking backwards with an AFV trundling along behind you not easy as you're trying to marshal a vehicle moving forwards and looking forward at the same time. An extra bod walking behind the vehicle watching the crowd might be useful?

Comms in vehicles I have seen people driving about in AFV's without them on at War and Peace and the like its worth having them as an extra pair of eyes who can communicate with the driver if something untoward happened.

  5. As soon as you have it at home insure the vehicle on the chassis number.

Contact VOSA they will talk you through how to register with them for the first MOT you will need the chassis number for this. If it passes the MOT you should be on the way to registering the vehicle with the DVLA.

As an aside NOVA is bobbing along in the background see here which might make it difficult for you to register the RB44 you really need the cast certificate or I sense trouble ahead. Get onto to Withams and pester them for the cast form. No cast form no money

MVT verification officer will be able to say when it was built and supply that to the DVLA.

  6. Hello Folks,

I posted this earlier in the general forum - ooops, sorry - I think I should have posted it in here instead...

Apologies for not knowing the basics, but I need some simple advice about how to get my yet-to-be-delivered 1991 RB44 on the road.

Please can anyone explain the sequence of actions that I have to take?

The vehicle is a direct MoD release and has not been registered for the road before. There is no accompanying paperwork, but I do know the chassis number and the basic parameters like engine size and GVW.

VOSA? Number plates? DVLA? Road tax? Insurance? Where do I start, and then what do I do next??

Many thanks for any forthcoming advice!

    Cheers,

    Andrew.

If its off Withams it should have the cast certificate which normally is needed to register the beast. It can be done another way through the MVT vehicle verification officer local to you for a fee. Withams for some reason seem not to want to pass this on.

The plates for vehicle weights, axle loadings and chassis / vin number is on the drivers side step area. Its worth taking a pictures of the various plates to forward to the DVLA / Vosa. Do you plan on converting into a camper or r you planning on leaving it as it is? Is the comms body empty or full of Clansman type of equipment? Depending on what you want to do it will either have to be MOT'd and plated at a VOSA test station or if converted into a camper and then MOT'd as a class 7 motor home.

  7. I have a few bits to touch up and if I had enough paint I would spray the box body sides again. I wish I had sprayed the faded flaps that cover the sockets for the Clansman plugs.
