  1. Hi guys, Back to posting more photo's. Scrap yard Google earth view Google Earth street view Dodge Power Wagon Dodge Woody Passenger Transport??? Dodge truck Nash truck Dodge I will have to go back, I have seen only a small portion. From the other MV scrapyards on Google, they are also HUGE!! Time, time, time!!! Till later.
  2. Hi guys, My daugther's marriage went well, with all the time consuming stuff finished. During the morning preparing for the big occation. During the ceremony. And I got to dance one dance with her too! Now back to some work on the Saracen, re-installing some the removed panels, etc. Getting to the gear change pedal, I have a feeling that there should be a spring somwhere pulling the lever up? Am I wrong, my manuals does not show anything? And that troublesome front wheel is waiting for me! Cheers, Monty.
  3. Hi Paulob, You seem to have the hang of this chassis numbering episode, would you care to elaborate a bit for a lesser mortal like me, please? I have chassis number 96BA67 and can't get the history card either. I thought all South African Saracens would be from the 96BA series but photos I have taken from the scrapyards, show a variety of other numbers as well. Regards, Monty.
  4. Hi guys, My system is offline at the moment, now using my betterhalf's laptop. I checked out rog8811's thread on the google earth finds and promptly checked out the one scrapyard on google earth as well. It's huge!! I haven't even seen a third of it! Now I am wondering what is still hiding out there! Cheers, Monty.
  5. Hi Rog8811, I never even thought of looking at the scrapyard with google. Here is a Google Earth view of it. I have probably seen only a third of it! This is also where those bonneted trucks (Israeli Commandcars) are as well as the Scammell Pioneer, Saracens, Bedfords, Magirus Deutzs, Marmon Herringtons, Dodges, etc are. Cheers, Monty.
  6. I suppose you won't be reading this for sometime, other "stuff" keeping you busy. Congrats! I am echoing Oily, pics please!:-D Cheers, Monty.
  7. Hi guys, Thanks for the posts. PM me (I don't know how it works) I am planning a revisit soon and will do some research on the costs inclusive of shipping. I still need to post more MV photo's, mostly Dodges but can only do it a bit later, I have an appointment for somebody needing a security gate. Till later, Monty.
  8. Hi guys, In my hunt for Saracen spares, I stumbled upon this vehicle that I thought did not exist in South Africa. I have also posted this in another thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?19274-South-African-MV-Scrapyard-finds I have been intrigued by these vehicles ever since I laid eyes on them in this Forum and then on Youtube with the leads given. I would like to know from the boffins whether this is an Explorer or a Pioneer, I don't even know if there are any other models. I did not do any further research because of myassumed non-existence of them in South Africa. From another local info source, he said that there were two examples in South Africa at the time. I assume a South African installed diesel engine. The marks on the tyres shows that it has survived some veld fires! Regards, Monty.
  9. Hi Hanno, Please also take a look at this thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?18874-Armoured-Vehicle-identification Regards, Monty.
  10. Here we go with the Dodge photos and a few others. The Canadian Chev??
  11. Hi guys, There is enough spares there to make one cry! When I visited the place, the owner was overseas with a batch of MV's/ Spares to some museum. He does sell, mostly to overseas clients as apparantly according to him, there is legislation preventing south African public ownership of MV's. I will find out more from him, I will just make an appointment to ensure he will be present. Radek, Oily is looking for seats, rog8811 wants to know more about those bonnetted Israelly trucks, I need Saracen reduction hub spares, I will enquire about those bulb holders for you. The sealed cabs on the racks are for early Magirus Deutz trucks, I forget the name. (I am platinum blonde after all these years!) Handler 69, here are/were supposed to be 280 Saracens, bought by the South African Army in the '50's.I have seen evidence of three that has been butchered with cutting torches, so most of the others should be around. All of these are of the "Saracen 88" variety, so very scarce in your part of the world. Check out post 77 and on under the British Vehicle threads, Saracen build-up! I do not know of any Saladins but have also been wrong about the Scammells. Somebody I spoke to said that here are supposed to be two Scammells, he even named their units where they were stationed. Apparantly spares were getting to be a problem, it must have been during the Isolation years. Andy, I am tickled pink by this vehicle but have no funds to purchase. Maybe I should consider selling the Cobra! My wife will kill me if I bring another "piece of Junk" home!! I still need to post the Dodge pictures. I am astounded by the fact that one man could have collected so many MV's and such a great variety of Dodge trucks! There is also another artilliary piece there, it looked like anti-aircraft gun, but in my anciety, I failed to take a picture!
  12. Hi Oily, Sadly no, the Saracen is going nowhere fast, still way too much work outstanding. Would have been nice though. Guys, here are some pics with South African saracen details. Drive pulleys and brake boosters Turrets and gun-ring detail
  13. Hi guys, I am battlelingto post, sometimes 3 or 4 times before the post attaches. I also continously have to relog to the site. Is it just me or what? Thanks, Monty.
  14. Hi guys, Some details of the field telephone connection and stowages.
  15. And more. And then there were the Dodges, Dodges and Dodges!!
  16. Hi guys, Sorry about the attached thumbnail, it slipped through. Some more pics. And just when I thought that there is no way that South Africa has any Scammels, lo and behold! Next installment, NOS(???) parts.
  17. These I don't know. It looks like Ford Flat head V8's that were utilized in these vehicles, I was told of German origin, does not make sense, though. Angaas. Haven't got a clue.
  18. Here goes Magirus Deutz Jupiter Speaking for itself. Caterpillar D4 Caterpillar D2 And these two veterans.
  19. Hi gents, In my search for Saracens and Saracen spares, I came across the MV's, some I am familiar with and others I don't even have a clue or that they even existed. I have taken photos and will post them as we go. I will revisit these scrap yards, so if you want to know anything, shoot, I'll ask. I will kick-off with the familiar (to me) MV's. It just seems that uploading is very slow tonight.
  20. Hi gents, The yellow truck in the third pic in post#5, I don't know any thing about it but found a similar specimen in a South African MV Scrapyard. Cheers, Monty.
  21. Congrats mate, May she be up and running for a long time with minimum hassles. Trying to follow in your footsteps!
  22. Hi Oily, I have received your e-mail, the prices are very good indeed. I am cash strapped for the time-being, my daughter is getting married and all funds are channeled there, available or not. I am consoling myself with trips to MV scrap yards (It just makes matters worse by the way!!) Here are some the long-promised pics from the other day. A nest of Saracens! Some Dodges, Overlander, ????, Ex-Police vehicles, New MV's for the export market. There are lots more, I will put them up on another thread. Cheers, Monty.
  23. Oily, Confusion reigns when one is in a rush! It should have read "my future son-in-law's bachelor's" Sorry, s**t happened. Cheers, Monty.
