  6. could someone put up a pic of the neptune, preferably from the front. i want to compare it to a pic i have of the lvt's in the breach. it seems the neptune is a very elusive beast

  9. thanks fella's some very useful info there, especially the bit about the neptunes because as luck would have it i was looking into digging up one or two from the breach dave mentioned. might even be part of another tv show. i'll definitely get onto it now. by the way while we're on the subject of flat 12's i would also like a churchill engine if anyone knows of any please let me know. cheers
  10. jason that would help a bit but are you sure they were'nt churchill engines. i seem to remember a load were found on a railway siding a few years back
  11. i've seen the work the weald foundation do and it's very impressive. unfortunately i am not in the same league as those guys. there's only so much you can do with a gas axe and 9" grinder my churchill has been sold and is now in lithuania awaiting restoration. however i will get another one (or two)
  12. all i can do is hope the block isn't cracked or that the pistons have turned to mush. not a lot of the ancillaries survived but these can be overcome. the original distributor bases are still there so the quill shafts could be mated to any 12 cylinder dizzy. the carbs can also be replaced without too much expense, as can the starter and generator. as long as i don't have to start making camshafts and grinding cranks i might be ok. if it costs under £5k i'll be a happy man. we will see
  13. on the plus side the underneath is great, just a bit of blast damage to the sump. (wish the top was like that)
  14. don't give up on it just yet. i'm going to put it in a tank of oil and light a fire under it now and again. i hope the heating and cooling will loosen it up, after that i've got an engine guy that will pull it apart and then we'll know how bad it is

HAPPY NEW YEAR. technically i'm not starting the restoration just yet. it's more of a tear down and assessment, although i do the odd bit i have two carriers, a charioteer and a centurion to restore first. i have managed to source pretty much all the parts i need to restore it to running condition with the exception of the engine. this is a big unknown and would be hard to replace with anything other than another flat 12 engine. i just hope we can find someone to work a miracle with it!

  17. here we can see the accelerator pedal in the centre. the top one of the two rods coming to the left side is connected to the hand throttle. the other rod is connected to the carbs through various linkages
  18. this pic shows the brake pedal and master cylinder with the accelerator pedal in the bottom left. the box with the bent lid mounted on the bulkhead wall is the vehicle document box.
  19. with the help of a couple of friends i've started a page on facebook but i'll keep the updates coming. the drivers comparment, like the rest of the tank was in amazing condition. which is fortunate as it would be a long hard struggle trying to replicate the various controls due to the fact that unlike most tanks that use hydraulics the covenanter uses compressed air.
