  1. With a short drive east, there is also a big event at Debach airfield in Suffork on June 11th. Details can be found on their website http://www.493bgdebach.co.uk/ I've been for the last three years, taking my planes, and last year taking the jeep also. Here's a few pics from the event..... 5. Can't help with the spraying, but my jeep was painted from a 5ltr tin with about 25% left afterwards for touch ups. Steve
  6. Obsessive, Determined, Stubborn Steve PS There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary, and those that don't

  11. I did say Elvington in YORK, which is a Yorkshire Event, and NE events accessble from NORTH Yorks. I was being general for other readers too!! Steve
  12. The "Wheels & Wings" Event is on at Elvington Airfield on May 13/14th I'm writing the website for them as we speak. It is up and running with basic information on it, but has a long way to go. There's a downloadable entry form on their website. http://www.wheelsandwings.co.uk/ Also for your interest, the NE MVT quite often has events in the Middlesborough & Teesside area, which isn't to far to travel from North Yorkshire. Our Events are listed on our site, see below. http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/nemvt/nemvt.htm Steve
  13. There are plently of young people out there interested in re-enacting and vehicles. During 2005, the NE MVT were asked to display vehicles at several schools having VE/VJ Celebrations, and the kids thought it was great, especially the few who climbed in the vehicles for a newspaper shoot. In the late teens to late twenties catagory, there are still plently of people interested, BUT................and it is a big but, that has already been stated in the thread, money is a big factor. When I first started looking for a jeep, early 2005, I found a few internet adds listing M201's starting at £5000, but these turned out to be old ads. I think everyone is realistic enough to say that most military vehicles aren't worth what is paid for what you get. Not that driving my jeep in 2005 wasn't worth every penny, it was a fantastic year and Lynne and I met loads of new friends, plus had a very special holiday in Normandy with the jeep. One of the few plus sides of the price, is that unlike modern vehicles, where the price falls through the floor as you drive out of the show room, you are much less likely to loose money. Due to these expensive prices, there's a couple of guys up here who jointly bought a Dodge WC51, and share the fuel and maintenance costs. Syndicate Ownerships are very popular in the aviation world, but so far, this Dodge is the only case I've heard for vehicles. Is this a common practice in the MV world, or is it something that vehicle owners don't think about or don't want to share 'their' vehicle?? It seems a sensible way forwards to me if finances dictate that single ownership is not possible. I don't think we need to educate the younger generation ( I'm 36!! ) about the vehicles to gain their interest, but I do think we need to show ways of getting into the hobby in an affordable way. Steve
  14. The wing looks to be from a Cub/L4 Grasshopper, but the engine cowling is from a post war later mark Cub. I'm guessing he picked up a crash damaged modern wreck from a scrap yard. Steve
  15. I'll fit something in the next week or two. I'll probably fit something small just above the plate Steve
  16. Was the plane just an accessory for the back of the truck or was it going to be restored? Steve
  17. Here's a picture of Tim working the said camera........ Steve
  18. The whole area of Digi cams is a bit of a nightmare when you start looking. If you want a zoom, pick something with a partial Optical zoom; digital zooms just crop the picture and loose quality. I prefer digi cams with separate AA dry cells to power them. If you are out and about, and it goes flat, you just pop in two new batteries. I friend has a cam with built in rechargable, and after about 50 pictures ( some inc flash ), it went flat - game over for the day! If you want action photography, check what the shutter response time is ( the delay from pressing the button to the picture being taken ). Some digi cams are very slow on response times. If you want close up pictures, check out the macro lens feature and see what the ranges are for normal and macro lenses. As far as Mem card size, I have a 256MB card, and haven't filled it on a day out taking over 300, reasonable resolution pictures. Video on my cam uses about 10MB per minute. A typical 2048 x 1536 pixel image on fine quality on my cam is about 800Kb in size. If you intend to do indoor photography, check out the cams results in lower light levels. Many will produce blurred images unless they have good light. Well that's a start for you. You're best off getting recommendations from friends who have good cams. I was also told to stick to 'Names' of traditional cameras ( ie Canon, Nikon etc ) as theey know more about cameras and their lens quality is better. Hope that helps, Steve
  19. I guess you haven't had your jeep in one piece long enough for it to need an MOT?? Steve
  20. That would be real helpful. If I remember, when ja020 got his jeep tested, the computer system had just come in and I think it ended up passing as a Landrover. Steve
  21. Is there now a catagory for jeeps on the new computerised test? If not, what vehicle type should it be listed under?? Steve
  22. There's a local garage that ja020 uses for his jeep. I'll probably go there as they are already familier with the vehicle. It's still interesting reading the rules and quirks of MOT testing, such as the testers job can't be applied for. You have to work at a test station for a while before being nominated by them to become a tester, and others like folding screens don't need washers. It must have been a nightmare writing the software for the MOT test. Steve
  23. My jeep MOT will come around in April, so I've been doing a little reading about it. One of the things that interests me is the need for a rear number plate light, and yet, I don't think I've seen a single military vehicle in the area with one! I've read a few rules like no need for washers with fold down screens, and rules regarding folding seats if that was original design, but can anyone enlighten me as to some of the can and can't get away with rules for older vehicles. My jeep is a 1958 M201. Steve
