  2. Here's me, Lynne and Dad with "Jessie" at Grosmont station just after the parade there.
  3. Here's "Whislinwolf" ( Tim1 ) on his weekend perch. and Gothland Station.
  4. It was nice to see an unusual jeep in to form of this US Navy vehicle.
  5. Hello everyone I'm sure I speak for everyone who was there by saying the Wartime weekend was a great event. The vehicle parade through Pickering itself on Saturday must have had at least 20 vehicles and was greeted by hundreds of people, with a very large number in 1940's dress. Unlike many, we didn't stay in the one place all weekend, but drove to the other stations ( Gothland & Grosmont ) to see the activities there, clocking up around 180 miles. Occasionally we passed a Jeep or Dodge heading the other way on the main North/South road, so if you saw a light olive jeep heading the other way, it was probably us! As promised, here's a selection of photo's from the weekend and Pickering parade, starting with the parade. Steve
  6. OK, we'll let you off this year, and I'll take plenty of photo's for you!! Steve
  7. Had our NE MVT meeting last night, and it seems there will be quite a few of us there this weekend. If you are looking for us, we'll be the group with Jeeps and Dodges!!!!!!!!! Seriously, our Area Secretary, Jon Kerr, has a Chrysler Royal 1941 Staff Car, so if you see that, we'll probably be close. Steve
  8. The picture is actually an Animated GIF image. Gif's can be saved as several images in layers, and the time changed that the pictures are scrolled. This one was done on a program by Ulead, called GIF Animator. It wasn't a free program, but there possibly are free downloads on the net somewhere. Image colour quantity can be limited to reduce the overall file size too. If you right click and select properties on all the smiley faces, you'll find they are animated GIF's too. I picked some images I liked, resized them to about 80 pixels square I think, compiled them in the GIF program and then uploaded them in the normal way. Steve
  9. Here's a very small selection of the 600 photos I took while touring Normandy. Sherman at Foret d'Ecouves - Note the kink in the barrel. Sherman at Ecouche Heavily Cratered 155mm Battery at Pointe-Du-Hoc Steve
  10. Are they more effective than your paint shells?? Steve
  11. What are you doing up at Durham?? That's not far from me in Washington, unless there's another Durham I don't know about! Steve
  12. Hey, we stayed there this summer, in the second half of July. Just outside the rear entrance to the site is a memorial to one of the advanced Fighter Bases built not long after the invasion. It was an RAF Advanced Landing Ground B7 from July 13th to September 3rd 1944. Steve
  13. Thorpe Abbotts, home to the "Blo*dy Hundredth" Bomb Group has an excellent museum in the tower and associated buildings. Much of the runways were removed in the 1980's, but several large sections of perimeter track remain. There's a shop in the main building, and numerous displays in the tower, small nissen hut and Night Flying Equipment Store. They have a jeep on display and also have a Command Car. 100th Bomb Group Website Here's a few pictures of the museum.
  14. Jack Go to my Jeep site Jessie The Jeep and follow the link for Normandy 05. There are several pages of pictures from places around Normandy that Lynne & I visited in the Jeep. We sailed Portsmouth La Havre, overnight crossing. If you sail mid week from the UK ( Mon to Thur) it is cheaper. Returning, a Friday evening crossing arriving Saturday am is still classed as midweek, so cheaper. Steve
  15. What scale is the Sherman? Is it the Tamiya 1/16 R/C version. I got one of those many years ago far a birthday. It took a day to build the tracks!!! I bought a 1/35 scale jeep before buying my actual jeep. The fit in my garage was a bit tight so I wanted to measure the model for a better indication of whether the Jeep would fit next to my trailer. As you can see below, it did fit. Steve
  16. Ebay is a great source of cheap 1940's style dresses. My wife has been shopping there for dresses for evening 40's dances. She usually spends the day in class A uniform, or in flying jacket etc as a "WASP" or "WAAC". Steve
  17. Hello Ashley Where abouts in the country are you?? I'm in the North East, but sometimes get down to Yorkshire events ( and once to Essex!! ) Steve
  18. Can someone tell me the difference between the "Sentbox" and the "Outbox"? Sometimes I send a PM and it sits in the Outbox and I wonder if it has really gone, when other PM's seem to go straight to the Sentbox!! Steve
  19. You don't want an American soldier, you want an American pilot!!!!! http://www.sacarr.co.uk/mvtne/events_pics/06/spennymoor/spenny10.jpg[/img] http://www.sacarr.co.uk/usaaf/b17/7.JPG[/img] Steve
