  1. Maybe in the wrong section as it not an American vehicle, but maybe it is because it was based on Ford mechanicals and was nicknamed "Ivan-Willys".

     

    Love the rugs, makes for the perfect accessory, doesn´t it?

  2. Here's a nice pic I found recently in a book on the city of Rotterdam during WW2. It shows the headquarters of a Canadian Army unit set up at the Heemraadssingel, Rotterdam, May 1945.

     

    If you look closely you will see a myriad of interesting vehicles, one of which is a Chevrolet K-51 Panel Van. I have since seen a couple more pictures of the K-51 in Canadian service in NW-Europe, but no Dodge WC-42 as far as I can recall.

  3. Hmm, I wondered when somebody would ask. I've got no documentary or photographic evidence at all of CMP 4x2 15cwt AA vehicles being with the Regiment, but that's not to say there definitely weren't any. However, to quote Lt Col Brian Mylchreest, CO of 41 Battery at D-Day and later CO of the Regiment: "The only 20mm I remember were on tracked vehicles". These were Crusader AA tanks which the Regt were equipped with for a brief time around D-Day.

     

    I've had a close look at the Canadian photo that I understand led the CMP's owner to put 15LAA markings on it. I can't see any of the Polsten 20mm-armed vehicles actually carrying such markings although there are some clearly-marked 15LAA Morris wireless trucks driving past them.

     

    I'm prepared to be convinced otherwise if anyone's got evidence ...

    I presume you are referring to the attached picture? The thread On a Normandy beach... at Maple Leaf Up Forum decribes the source and conclusions deducted from it. Apparently the markings are to be found on the AA trucks in a large-size scan of the picture. I could check if there were any remnants of markings found when it was restored.

     

    I was hoping you could confirm those conclusions from other sources, but obviously you can not.

  4. Here's a few photos of MT belonging to the 15th LAA Regt RA (TA)

    Speaking of 15th LAA Regt and CMPs, a friend of mine has a CMP F15 w/20-mm Polsten which is painted in painted in D-Day markings 15th LAA Regiment. I understand these were the markings he found on the truck when restoring it.

     

    Would the museum have any wartime pictures of this type of truck?

  5. Here's a few photos of MT belonging to the 15th LAA Regt RA (TA) in Eritrea, North Africa and Europe. There's plenty more where these came from. What shall I post next? M16 quad .50 half-tracks in Manx Regt markings? More Morris CDSWs? CMPs?

  6. Rick's photo looks like a F60S and the one in Brussells is a F60L by looks of it.

    Indeed. I checked Gregg's data book and it lists it as mounted on a F60S (134" wb) chassis. Apparently two versions existed.

  7. I wouldnt encourage youngsters to enter this game,its over we are the last.We will be joining the shoe menders,watchmakers.

     

    Not sure if we´re on the same page, but for a guy (or girl) in Holland with a sound technical background and not afraid to get their hands dirty, the employers line up in great numbers.

     

    We have welders, fitters, mechanics, you name it, coming from all over Europe and beyond working here.

    Good to hear it ended up at a good home!

     

    Here´s some background: the first picture I posted shows the CS8 around the turn of the century, the one below shows the same truck in 2003 in a partly dismantled state ready for restoration. It must have been shortly after this point you stepped in and bought it.

  9. Very true about tyres. The vehicles were stockpiled for lack of them. most US kit was shipped on small austerity tyres, and no spare. The unit that got them was expected to get tyres. Notice pictures of things like Carryalls used exclusivly in the States always have small tyres compared to vehicles in Europe.

    Can you please elaborate on this? It is the first time I´ve heard US vehicles were shipped with "austerity" tyres. Would having a second, temporary set of tyres not increase the problem of rubber shortage?

     

    Vehicles not in combat use were often fitted with tyres with regular treads instead of non-directional combat tyres, as they use less rubber to manufacture.

    Talking of Morris' in the USA: did you ever see the many times a Morris CS8 appeared in the 1960's TV comedy series 'HOGANS HEROES ' , with Sergeant Shultz and Colonel Klink etc. The Morris appeared in many episodes .. The show was made in Hollywood . So where did the Morris come from ? And what became of it ?

    Yes, we meet again; the WW2 Commonwealth collector´s world is small and the internet is making it even smaller.

     

    No, have not seen Hogans Heroes, don´t think it was aired (cabled?) here in Holland. Have you checked the internet movie cars database for M-C film stars?
