  1. Thanks Dave, very reassuring to get some other opinions. This is the first time I have had anything to do with a Beetle - all a bit new to me. Thanks Mate, BTW, I guess we are 'nearly neighbours' - I am on the Colchester side of Ipswich. did you manage to get the snow mobile out last week ?
  2. Yeah right, thanks for that Mr H1HU, Now my whole afternoon is wasted. and don't run across my missus If I were you, shes fumin' - I had planned to do some DIY this afternoon, but now I am hooked on Huey Tubes ! thanks mate,. awesome stuff !
  3. Oh boy - Them Apaches are a hellever piece of kit, but for sheer excitement you will never beat a Huey. Just listening to one thumping the sky with them huge paddles makes the hairs on your neck stand up. You must surely have a youtube of a huey flight you can post up here ?
  4. Thank Phil, appreciate the imput ! Regards Mark.
  5.................I might just do that, :cool2:..........
  6. Good idea, and one that I had considered. However, previous experience with my Jeep showed me that loadind static will only achieve so much - it gets much lower after being driven with that load. Thank for the imput, Regards Mark.
  7. No need to sound apologetic. Welcome to the forum, some guys treat us replica gang as if we farted in a church - just ignore it. Read this thread and you will soon see the 'do-ers' and thinkers are really enthusiastic. Now, post up some pictures.....................please ! Regards Mark.
  8. Great Stuff Boys, Glad I am not alone here on the VW scene. Not done much work on the Schwimming schlugwagen over the holiday - far too busy getting fat and drunk, in an attempt to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus Christ. But, I did finish putting the hubs together, so here is a brief update. After a good deal of searching I found some VW trekker spindles that are 2 1/2" taller than the beetle stock items. Fitting the trekker spindles was a breeze, couldn't have been easier. It has had the desired effect. Increased ground clearance and levelled out the body so as it has the 'stance' of an original VW166. This picture shows how level it is..........assuming of course that I did build my house level  The height now is approx 80mm too high at both the front and rear, That is why I have so much camber on the rear. So, after I fit the engine, ancillaries, swimprop, exhaust, seats, air ducting etc, etc on the rear end, and spare wheel, fuel tank windshield, etc, etc up the front - I hope it all comes down level, and about 80mm. Anyone here have an idea, or any experience of how much it will drop with the engine re installed ?
  9. Wow ! that fort is really low, and as Jessie pointed out, really close to that other '17. It is really spectacular to watch, but can easily end badly. Here in the UK, I guess most of you guys remember Don Bullock and the way he flew the fort 'Sally B'. I met Don on several occaisions back in those days, used to 'hang out' with the crew and Flew in Sally too. They even asked me to paint the nose art. I was just a youngster in those days, and Dons antics looked like a lot of innocent fun. I can remember standing on an airstrip as he flew over our heads and I was determined not to duck !........It was sucking the grass off the field and the fumes made your eyes sting - great stuff. One particular occaision, we were up at Duxford on a photo shoot, as we have done befor and since. I am guessing you guys know what a lot of fun that is, getting to take your vehicles, dress up and get paid too !......... ..........These are old pictures, I am sorry about the quality. Flicking through these old snaps, I can see that this day, I got to be rear gunner ! Don asked myself and a pal, if we would like to accompany him to the Biggin hill airshow the following weekend in the B17. You don't need me to tell you what are answer was. I was thrilled to bits, we knew he was a bit of a 'flyboy' and was sure to have a real good time. However, later that day, our plans were scuppered - The '17 was starting a take off run for a local flight when the starboard wheel broke in half. I caught it on my 'el cheapo' camera. Fact is, the Sally B had a lucky escape that day, but it meant that a new wheel would be needed and the plane would be grounded for a few weeks. Don was not put off, he said "no problem - we take the A-26 invader to Biggin".......my pal and I were dissapointed, as we really would have prefered the B17. In the end Don gave us the choice, A-26 next weekend at Biggin, or wait untill the '17 is fixed. We thought long and hard, it went back and forth, but in the end we deceided against the A-26. Luckiest decision I ever made, here is the A-26 at Biggin..............
  10. 'kin brilliant - Y'know, I don't miss the Krankies half as much when you are around ! :-D
  11. Thought I'd treat the Schwimmer replica to one of these. Here, a Deactivated 1940 model mg34
  12. Thank you Jack, Here is another. ......and not forgetting this is primarily a vehicle forum, take a look at this bunch - they look like they mean business.
  13. :-D........Seriously now, if ever you did consider it, I'd be your man- it always remind me of this wartime cartoon by Giles.
  14. Thank you, I'll be round to pick it up on saturday.
  15. Brilliant pictures - thanks for posting up the link. Regards mark.
  16. Great post ! .........love the 'modern army', I have an idea that there are several AH street signs around !
  17. Looks to me like it belonged to 'the other team' - the guys that came second.
  18. Here, you go. Would some knowledgeable MV guru be able to advise me what these are made to fit ? .......Clearing out a lot of spares and I cant sell stuff if I don't know what it is - I know it is a blackout light shield, but what vehicle ?
  19. So, Jerry can full of petrol on the back of a jeep is illegal ? Learn sommat new everyday.
  20. I was talking to my Brother in law about the increase in petrol prices, He said, "You ought to use lady lane garage in Hadleigh - I've been going there for years" he continued, "A tenners worth still cost a tenner"
  21. Oh, those are a couple of really nice pictures Mr Glasser !........... Jets indeed, OK...........Where did I put those old pictures of that Me262 ? Seriously, I am sure you agree, it really is the most fun you can have with your cloaths on - and that really does look like a lot of fun, that first picture all kitted out is quite something.
  22. That B-17 behind the 353rd razorback, looks like it could be 'Nine o nine', why has it no engineers/top turret ? Here is my favorite picture - That's me in the back with the grin. The very same P-51 Mustang that destroys the tank in Saving private Ryan. Climbing out over Ipswich in a pair of Mustangs on a beautiful summers day - the noise in there is deafening And here is a very short youtube of our arrival back at 'Base'. Here is a really proffessional job, by a guy called Speilburg. One of my favorite all time aviation scenes from a great movie "Empire of the Sun"..........It does capture some of the essence of the 'Caddilac of the Sky'.........Enjoy !
  23. Wonderful pictures, really amazing stuff. thanks for posting.
  24. I had an oppertunity to take a few snaps during a visit to our local base and the airmobile brigade. I had a very good look around the Apache gun ships. When it rained got in an attack helicopter. I asked everytime befor I took a picture. just thought you guys may like a peek too ! Amazing when the return, refuel and rearm. They land away from the site, taxi into the site - then the ground crew plug in a laptop type thingy. Read out exacty what, and how much to load. - they are soon back in the air. That last scene of all the helicopters in the air had something missing - Wagner's 'ride of the valkyries' should have been playing !
  25. My Brother in law bought a little cottage in the village of Raydon in Suffolk. The cottage was sited between the old USAAF airbase, and the living quarters, known locally as 'Alcatraz'. He was taking down an old wooden shed, and found this had been used as a shelf. He figured I'd like it and asked me to come get it. By the time I got there he had a good bonfire going. The shed he told me was lined out with plywood that he was busy burning, the ply burning furiously was stencilled 'Tank, auxillary 108 U.S. Gallon' - it seemed that the shed had been constructed from packing crates for drop tanks.
