  1. the bedford was still stuck when we left so i'll have to wait till thursday to find out how it got on

it was an experience i can tell you.

the only reason the jimmy didn't make it all the way was because the front prop was disconected. needless to say it will be connected by the end of the week.

  2. glad you had a good time,

me & russ popped up late on sunday afternoon but some of the guys had already pulled out.

we left when andy started moving the hetzer. big piece of kit in a small square

our show was rained out completly which was a shame but i'll post some photos on the glos thread.

i spotted dotty dodge (rowan) with his dad in one of your pictures.... see you at nibley rowan....

hopefully i'll meet some of you at horndean.

  3. i've got one of these as well & the pole does go inside. we can sleep 2 easy but not much room for anything else unless you are very tidy & put the beds away during the day. for 1 it is ideal as everything can be left set out, mine is just plain green though.

it can be put up with 1 person ( girl guide training), mind you a 12 x 12 with 2 people is quicker, more roomy but more expensive. the plus side is you don't need grass, a few sand bags round the skirts hold it in place on concrete.

work out how many times a year you are going to use a tent, how many people will sleep in it, how much storage room have you got & have you got the room to transport it with all your other kit as well.

of course it also depends if the price is right.

  4. we have got a 12 x 12 and love it. i call it my summer bungalow, it is great for having people round at a show & ours is fitted out with a gas fridge, gas oven & hob, double bed (comfort), a wardrobe area with clothes hanging up on a rail, a table & chairs & a spare table to use as a bedside cabinet

i do know of 2 for sale at the moment so pm me if you want phone numbers, 2nd hand ones are a lot cheaper & if you want to buy from a supplier then b grade is cheaper than a grade & is just as good.

i can't bring myself to sell mine even though i have got the jimmy now as there are still a few shows like Kemble,North nibley & Beltring where i want some comforts.

go on buy one they are a good investment & don't lose any money.

    cheers

  5. time off,

    what is that.

thanks for the comments guys, very good to get feedback.

Russ chose the grey because he portrays a soldier of the afrika corps fieldgendarmerie police unit and all the German vehicles were grey up till 1943, so the early desert vehicles were grey as opposed to the desert yellow, i think. sorry if i got it wrong guys !!!

this is a side line to the SWBs reenacting group of which he is a member as well.

    cheers

  6. some of you may remember the pictures of our 'first jimmy' the one that spoke to russ.

here is a photo to remind you

russ has spent a few months sourcing the parts to do a conversion & the bits have come from Poland, Berlin, USA & UK .

russ spent the bank holiday weekend working on the bike

  8. well,

this weekend is our first show of the season at castle coombe

monday = down the barn emptying bedford & sorting out kit

    tuesday = mvt meeting

wednesday = rbl meeting & down the barn for oil change on the Jimmy.

problems now begin. brake fluid all over the floor & down each wheel on the front. b*****r. a few frantic phone calls & 2 new sets of brakes on order from rex

thursday = a friend from bristol whos a truck driver just happens to be going to reading so picks them up for us. I then do a mercy dash to fairford in rush hour traffic to pick then up. I met Russ at the barn where he was tearing his hair out ( big joke in there) cause he couldn't find the wheel nut brace. another couple of phone calls later & a borrowed one was on the way. by this time it was getting dark so jimmy is propped up on blocks minus the wheels & hub.

friday = thunder storm & at this moment in time russ is down the barn

waiting for me to join him to bleed the brakes. we should be finished the job by tomorrow so will arrive at our first show a tad late.

on taking the old brakes off it is obvious they are all completely new & that it is just the seals that have perished over time.

    up date after the weekend

  9. we started off with a landrover & then bought another & then bought another & eventually we sold them & bought the Bedford mw. then came the replica kdf then the bike & then the jimmy along with 5 or six trailers along the way.

money & space are a huge factor in what vehicles we have had especially as it was being used on a daily basis as a second vehicle to the family car. i still have a soft spot for the lany though.

the parts are plentiful the kit & uniforms are cheap & in huge supply & even the last of the series 3 s are over 20 years old now.

keep your options open & your wallet tightly closed untill you are 100% sure it is what you want or something 'speaks to you'. and always take someone in the know with you.

    happy hunting

  10. i had all mine removed by my normal dentist so felt fine.

the hole closes from the inside out but once it stops bleeding you wont be able to stop yourself from sticking your tongue in it. don't do it too much though cause the jellied bloodclots will keep falling out & then it will bleed again. be careful when you eat aswell, i'm not squeamish & used tweezers to pull bits of trapped food out the holes, great fun to gross out brothers

    happy recovery

  11. i can't really say a lot as 'windy' only has bar grips on the front. we have got the rest coming shortly but not in time for the first few shows. I am thinking about laminating a sign saying

' i know these are the wrong tyres but i am saving for a correct set. any donations greatly recieved... thank you for your contribution.' :D

  12. Russ had 'created' a replica KDF which did the circuit for a couple of years & we always booked it in as a replica KDF. Not many people even know what a KDF was but just for the honesty aspect we were up front .

It was very difficult to tell the difference & he only did it as we didn't have £30,000.00 to buy 1 of the very few real ones.

All the conversion parts were originals & sourced over many months from varying parts of europe.the following was changed

back screen, wings, headlights, suspension, wheels, tyres, bonnet, deck lid, windows, left hand conversion, seating.also fitted were deck boards, klaxon, notek front & back. as said all parts were original & it was a fun vehicle that we could drive to one day shows & those with very bad weather. It was never passed off as an original and apart from 1 or 2 comments about the german aspect we had 500-600 good comments. We only sold it to fund the GMC otherwise it would still be drove to work everyday as it was also a day to day vehicle.

German vehicles are quite rare & sometimes the only way to have one is to make one unless money is no object .

we enjoyed the challenge at the time & replicating a rare vehicle made us a lot more critical of others who had tried & not done it quite right. some of the others we saw had just had a paint job & a few stencils and were still right hand drive, that kind of replica is ok from a long distance.

I'm all in favour of replicas as long as they are correct & advertised as such.

  13. Hi Jack,

The truck looks fantastic , i take my hat off to you it looks like you had alot more work to do than myself, i look forward to seeing her .

I think at the last count there are now 10 or 12 GMC's in the Gloucester , Bristol , and Swindon arear .

    Cheers Russ

  14. i love W & P and we share a plot between severnside & gloucestershire MVT. we hire our own toilets so no gripes there.

i love the atmosphere, i love the nightlife, i love the people & i love the shopping. yes there can be a few inconsiderates but hey thats life.

Asda is just up the road for shopping and if you haven't got transport you can use the free bus into paddock wood every 30 mins throughout the day & go to waitrose or the local butcher, baker & fruit & veg shop.

it is what you make it & I like my W & P to be fun.

  15. once i come back from holiday the bed inside & all the benches will be done & new mirrors put on .

then a new clutch plate, the clutch has been adjusted as far as it can go so needs doing but is not desparate.

I'm sure other little bits & pieces will pop up the more he is driven so i'll post as & when

    cheers guys
