I have, on page72 of Tanks Ilustrated No22 "Scorpion" there's a photo of 00HA08 on Sailsbury Plain with the Royal Hussars.. Chris has already posted the Photo underneath this one in the book so he may able to post this one too.

  2. Lee,

Just out of interest, who was it sold off to? Here are 2RTR again, doing some driver training in Omagh.

    Chris,

cheers for that, it dosen't say on the form, it just says "S/O" I think Jon said it came out of Withams but not from a tender sale.. I'll check with him when I next see him..

  3. Lee this is the only NI Fox pic I have. It appeared in Soldier caption is 2 RTR on patrol in Castlederg Sept 1979

I have a lot of REME SITREPS 1969-76 all the usual vehicles mentioned but no mention of Fox. I have 2 books on the history of RTR. Forty's book is a bit thin on NI. Macksey's book has a NI chapter no mention of Fox, lots of other vehicles mentioned. Both use that picture of 2 RTR Ferret marked Womble 2 with appropriate picture.

BTW the VRN is 11 FD 27, yours?

    Hi Clive

  5. As my Fox served in N.I. I'm just trying to gather a bit of info..

Has anyone got any in-service photos of the Fox in N.I. ? When did the Fox first serve in N.I. & when did they leave?

I presume the crew had 9mm Browning's for side arms as there is 9mm mag holder in there but what other weapons did they have? I have seen a photo of the turret crew with SLR's but where were these stored when not in use? When did they stop using the No.36 Mills with the Fox?

Any other info would be much appreciated..Thanks

    ISSUE No. 25

Preservation - Tank destroyer restoration - Peter Gray's restoration of an M10 from Pounds scrapyard.

  8. Apparently the final payment was also made to Canada but this is only for WW11, we still owe the USA for WW1 and it is suggested that this debt is in the region of

    12 thousand billion dollars!

Britain owed to US in 1934: £866m

Adjusted by RPI to 2006: £40bn

    Other nations owed Britain: £2.3bn

Adjusted by RPI to 2006: £104bn

  9. 12. Falkland Islands

    a. Name the first Englishman to 'sight' the Falkland Islands

    b. What was the date of the sighting?

    c. What was the population of the Islands in 1885?

    d. What date did the UK declare war?

    e. Who was the Foreign Secretary up to this point?

    f. Who was President of Peru at this time?

    g. What date did Britain formally declare an end to hostilities?

    a.Captain John Davis

    b.1592

    c.1800

d.War was not declared by either side (1771 The British outpost on West Falkland is restored after threat of war after the British were driven off by the French)

e.up to what point?? Lord Carrington was Foreign Secretary up to 5th April 1982 then Francis Pym

    f. Fernando Belaunde Terry

    g.20th June 1982

  10. But its NOT all good news:

There are still World War I debts owed to and by Britain. Since a moratorium on all debts from that conflict was agreed at the height of the Great Depression, no repayments have been made to or received from other nations since 1934.

    War is hell.

There are still World War One debts owed to and by Britain, but that no action had been taken on either count since U.S. President Herbert Hoover declared a moratorium in 1931 during the Great Depression.

Britain owed to US in 1934: £866m

Adjusted by RPI to 2006: £40bn

    Other nations owed Britain: £2.3bn

Adjusted by RPI to 2006: £104bn

HM Treasury unable to say why the UK never repaid its WWI debts - even though, at the time, many Americans took a dim view of repayments being suspended, for they had bought bonds which stood little chance of showing a return on their investment.

The Wall Street Crash helped plunge economies into chaos

Thus despite fighting on the same side in WWII, an air of financial distrust remained after hostilities ended.

"In a 1945 state department survey on the US public's attitudes to its wartime allies, Britain was one of the least trusted countries," says Dr Clavin.

During the crisis years of the 1930s, only one nation continued to pay in full - Finland. Perhaps a conscious effort to foster a good reputation with an increasingly influential power, Finland's actions generated thousands of positive stories in the American media at the time. Nor has it been forgotten; the Finns celebrated this achievement in an exhibition last year.

  11. Ian - what exactly the problem as I am not to sure what problem you are having here????
