  1. Hello Chris I spent hours on your site a few weeks ago and that was just looking at Withams photos! Very good. I am amazed at the before and after photo's of your Ferret, I can't believe it's the same vehicle As far as the Ferret site, I can get to the site but I can't get on to the Forum ( not that I really need to as this site is excellent, (just in case Jack is about  )) Thanks Richard
  2. Hello What's the best way to apply camo pattern to a MV? Reason for asking is I have recently brought an Ex-MOD workshop communications trailer. It is presently white, I am going to spray the green base first but I am unsure whether to spray the black or brush it. Also is there a standard pattern used by British MOD or is it just down to how artistic the painter is? Many Thanks Richard
  3. Crazy isn't it, but yes you could drive a Diamond T on a C1! Why stop at a Diamond T, what about an Antar? Forgot, you like American stuff. Regards Richard

  5. It's not in CMV! It's in this months Military Machines page 57. I can't find a photo I took of it at War & Peace, must be on a roll of film still to be delevoped Richard
  6. Oh... The one that was near the trade stands at War & Peace. And there's a photo of it in this months CMV Magazine at Duxford. Yes, very smart! Richard
  7. Glad I'm not the only one! Richard
  8. I agree! If it wasn't for us taking our vehicles there wouldn't be anything for the public to look at! Some of these shows seem to look on the Vehicle owners as if we have done something wrong. " Be there before 9am, no more than 2 passengers, do not leave before 5pm!" As well as all sorts of other rules! God, why do we bother! :? I think, at the very least we should be treated as if we are important, maybe have somewhere, just for exhibiters, where we can get discounted food rather than having to queue for hours to pay 4 quid for a cold burger. I would be nice if a small donation was made towards our fuel bills as well. It is the big stuff that draws the crowds, don't get me wrong I like LandRovers but most people have already seen one. My War and Peace highlight as got to be "Hager" powering through the mud and over that mound of soil while towing a loaded trailer, especially as the trailer only just stayed upright! The little stuff just dosen't impress as much. Regards Richard
  9. Hello I used to go on the Ferret owners forum ( http://www.ferretsccoutcar.info/html), it was very useful but all of a sudden it went off. Since then, all I get when I try to access it is -BAD GATEWAY.... Blah blah blah. So I don't know what happened to it. :? Regards Richard
  10. Well I'm not sure now having looked at the picture now it's been scanned and blown up. There does seem to be a slight two tone to the paint! But on it's V5 the colour is stated as black, I would think that camo is normaly put down as green. The Ferret is now sand colour but the black "Allied Markings" are slightly lower than the sand paint, suggesting that the black was masked up and the sand sprayed over the top. The only green found is inside the smoke luncher boxes. I am going to respray the Ferret over the winter so hopefully should be able to find out what colour it was before being spayed sand. I'm keeping it in Gulf War colour but am going to use a satin finish as the current matt is a pain to keep clean. I agree, I always think it's funny when someone says something was leaking but then it just stopped without them having to do anything to it! I wonder why! Regards Richard
  11. I think so :? But I've never been brave enougth to try it! I guess it would only be the same as the one on the other side with the spare wheel. I don't think I would be able to fit through it anyway, I nearly got stuck in the front hatch once  ( too tall, not too fat!!) Regards Richard
  12. Totally Black The ladder is of the same quality as the bumper and it certainly makes getting in easier. The holes for the periscopes in the side hatches have also been welded up to the same standard. This has annoyed me has I wanted to refit the periscopes. No problem removing the plates but the brackets inside that hold the periscopes in place have been removed. Again this has been done by someone skilled in metal working. I was unsure if the cargo rack fitted now is a "proper job", but having had a look at Duxfords Mk1/2 in Gulf Colours it has the same style rack fitted. By the way, I have enjoyed reading your articles in Windscreen magazine on Pigs. I have nearly brought a Pig on two occasions and the articles have been very useful for spotting the differences. As yet I haven't quite been able to commit to a Pig (sounds a bit funny that! ) Regards Richard
  13. Oh I don't think it would bend. When I drilled it to fit the bridge weight plate I found that it is made from thick metal. And I mean THICK! It's also boxed and the person who made it was a brilliant welder. It's mounted to the hull over it's full width, top and bottom. But the oddest thing about the bumper is at each end there are square holes, fully sleeved and welded, which must have been used to take something. It just looks too well made to just be something knocked up in the garage to make it look smart. It would have been much easier to put sand ladders on or even a piece of crash barrier! One point, I have a poor quality photocopy of a picture of the Ferret just after it was de-moded and it's matt black. Was this normal? Cheers Richard
  14. Hello Clive, No I haven't seen one like this on a Ferret, but someone I know who works "high 'up in the Military" ( don't ask to many questions  ) said the first time he saw the Ferret, (from a distance and only as he walked by)- "That must have had a few petrol bombs thrown at it!" At the time no-one else had mentioned a possible use for the front bumper, so when I asked him about it he said it was normal for a NI Ferret to have that bumper. Since then I have spoken to quite a few old solders who are customers of ours and everytime, without me asking about it, have pointed out the "Ulster Bumper". But still, I have never seen a photo of another Ferret with the same bumper! I don't like asking "high up military man" to many questions because his work is a little hush hush. He did get me some very nice satellite photo's of Zil 131's and other soviet hardware though! Believe it or not, they were in a brown envelope with various details blanked out! :? Regards Richard
  15. Yes, I was surprised, but speaking to a few dealers more MV's are sold during the winter. I would think that most people would want to buy at the start of the summer, but it seems that with the dark winter nights people get bored, look at Ebay or Milweb and think "wouldn't be fun to own a MV" Price's also go up slightly in the winter, but I think fuel price's have affected vehicles with a "drink problem". Just look at Stalwarts, 18 months ago a good one was £5000+ now they are around the £3500 mark. I would like the price's of all MV's to drop, then I could afford more of them!  Regards Richard
  16. Look forward to meeting you. The only day we are closed is Monday, any other day is fine. Regards Richard.
  17. One of the new Oshkosh tank transporters with matching trailer! If your going to 'ave one 'ave a big un! Richard
  18. Yes I mentioned Ferrets  Mine is also a 1962 Mk1/2 (OO EA 07) so they must be quite close in numbers. Mine is in Gulf War colours, it's a little odd, as it has a large front bumper, no lockers, but an access ladder on the side. Both these look to well made to be "home made" . I've been told by more than one person that the bumper was for use in Belfast but I have never seen a picture of a Ferret in use in Northern Ireland to confirm this. Regards Richard
  19. Hello Funny thing is, that only today we were discusing the the lack of an Eastern based MV club and I was planning to put a post on here in the next few days. We were also wondering if an informal gettogether/show would be worthwhile. We are a large Aquatic Center and have a few acre's of spare land where it could be held. We are in Cambridgshire but we also close to the Lincs and Norfolk borders. My own Vehicles create alot of interest with our customers so a gettogether/show would seem a natural progression. Maybe it's something we could work on. Regards Richard
  20. Thanks chaps! I think one of the ones in the cab should be good enough to try scanning it. I will give it a try. Many Thanks Richard
  21. Hi Matt, We only tried one sign maker that we use for our shop signs but we never pursued it very far. I think we'll have to give them a try again. Thanks Richard
  22. It always amazes me how quick you get replies on here! Good isn't it?! We tried the Firepower Museum Shop, we got some very fetching baseball caps with the crest on them  :? but they hadn't got any transfers. We did manage to get some Artillery Association Transfers but they aren't the same. I will have to give them another try. Many Thanks Richard
  23. I think the Daimler Ferret has got to be one of the best Armoured Military Vehicles you could own. I've owned mine for over a year and it's never missed a beat, great fun to drive and a real head turner at shows and petrol stations! Has anyone got any hints and tips on looking after Ferrets Regards Richard
