  1. Hello, I checked it out today, I hadn't realised but the REAR GUARD light flashes with either left or right indicator, but not with hazards. But the Fog light itself doesn't flash when using the indicators, so that's lucky. Also, the REAR GUARD doesn't light up when the Fog light is on. Looks like the multi-meter will be in use soon! The PRESS TO TEST switch has been removed! I had a look behind the panel and there are still two wires coming from the warning lamp and heading off through the bulkhead but I haven't yet traced where they go. I can't believe how many wires there are behind such a small panel! Many Thanks Richard
  2.   It probably will! Many Thanks Richard
  3. Hello Richard, I will check that out tomorrow, it makes sence that REAR GUARD is the fog lights. You say about the "press to test" switch, earlier tonight I had a look at the panel and now you pointed it out there IS what looks like a button. I thought that it was just a blanking plate covering a hole used for something else ( it was dark!) What happens if I do press it? Many Thanks Richard
  4. Hello Steve, I remember a while back that Classic Military Vehicle magazine did a feature on a scale model of one of these that was offered on Ebay. From memory, it said that the model was a feasibility study for the full size vehicle. I'm sure though, that the article said that no full size mock ups were ever made, but it looks like that was wrong. Unless of course, that this one is a modern made replica for a museum etc. I wonder how many "Top People" were involed in such a White Elephant? Regards Richard.
  5. Hello, It's in a panel mounted in the middle of the vehicle, between the air vents. The panel also houses two pull switches, one for the Fog light, the other for the hazard lights and then there are two illuminated warning signs, the one with REAR GUARD and the other says BRAKE ( I'm guessing this is for low brake fluid) :? Cheers Richard
  6. Hello, No doubt another very easy one! On our Land Rover, when indicating left, a light on the dash flashes "REAR GUARD" What was the piont of it? Many Thanks Richard
  7. Hello Toni, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Some dealers are just a website and a phone number. On many occasions I've found a dealer on the web who has a large well laid out website with large stocks of the type of vehicle or spare I'm looking for. I phone during office hours but most of the time there's no answer but sometimes you get "the wife" who tells you to ring back after 7pm. When you finally get hold of the chap he's got nothing in stock and probably never has had! And why, if they have time to put an add on Milweb can't they find time to take it off when it's sold? There are some very good dealers out there and you soon find out who they are. What sort of vehicle are you looking for by the way? Regards Richard
  8. It really winds you up doesn't it!! I get the same problem with my Russian ZIL 131, most people think it's American! It's got a F#*%ing great big RED Star on the doors and Russian writing on the bonnet! Does that look American! The best was once some ...person told me it was Chinese. "No", I replied," it's Russian!" "Not with a Red star on the doors!" replied expert. "True, China had a red star but with yellow outline, but the Russian Star is Red with a White outline, how it is on my truck " I stated! "Where you in the Army?!" replied prat man. "No , but I've seen FireFox enough times to know what a Russian star looks like! And why, if it's Chinese is the hand book in Russian you thick prat!?" Damm it, some people, they just make you so......! Must calm down, blood pressure and all that! Regards Richard
  9. Hi Tyler, I don't know what to call the Land Rover. It was the Ferret that started the naming as it was called Eric when we got it and it just suits it. And the ZIL's called The Bitch because when we first got it it seemed that every time I used it something else broke! Now it's settled down and behaving it's self we should really change it's name. A nice Russian girl's name would be ideal! Cheers Richard
  10. Yes, it's funny how a topic unfolds. You can imagine someone just looking at the index and thinking "how on earth can they talk about spark plug gaps for 3 pages!" Just shows you have to read all posts, even if they don't look that interesting. Regards Richard
  11. Hello Richard Thanks for that. This is a problem I had all last winter and I was starting to think it was something more serious. In a way, I'm glad there are more people with the same problem. I will try letting it warm up longer next time I take it for a run. I know sometimes I'm a little too keen to get going. Many Thanks Richard
  12. Hello, I've just noticed I've been spelling Weber wrong! Tyler, it's a 12v. I've never driven anything with the top down but I would think it's fun. But I'm not one of those macho type's who drive the top down in the winter, so I'll have to wait 'til the weather warms up to find out! Cheers Richard
  13. Hi Tyler, yes, took it for a little run today. And yes I used 2nd gear for pulling away, it does seem smoother and first is very short. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the Land Rover. It's nothing like my old S2A diesel. I think having a canvas top makes it quieter aswell. If I'm over your way I'll pop in, many thanks Richard
  14. Hello Tyler, I got the aerial today, many thanks. No there isn't any heat shield. Because Ferret engine bays are a little cramped the air cleaner is in the fighting compartment. The air is then ducted over the engine to the carb on the other side of the vehicle. As the air cleaner is the standard military type which has slots rather than a hole there is no easy way to attach a pipe which could then suck warm air from the engine bay. A customer of ours used to be a Ferret Commander and I remember him saying how they had problems getting them to run well in cold conditions. They did find in artic conditions moving to altitude adjustment on the carb to the opposite of what you would normally would , helped them to run much better. Problem is, I can't remember which setting he said! Regards Richard
  15. I know how Jack felt now when choosing what colour to paint his truck. What do I do, what do I do!? Stick with the Zenith or swap to Webber? The old Land Rover goes well as it is though, very responsive. I was soon up to the giddy heights of 45 mph! Regards Richard
  16. Ah good, I'm not the only one with this problem. Paul, I too have thought about someway of warming the air going in the air intake. Oddball, it would be sensible to have a winter/summer setting but it doesn't seem to have one. Has anyone else come up with a way round it? Thanks Richard
  17. Hello, I have another question. When the weather is warm my Daimler Ferret runs perfect, it doesn't matter how far I go, 20-25+ miles it makes no difference, it still performs great with plenty of power and speed. But when the weather is cold, like today when I took it for a run, after about 7 miles it has less power and is less willing to pull away quickly. It doesn't stop or give me any feeling that it is going to stop, it just losses it's sparkle. Today, when I first noticed it, I pulled over and let it tickover for 1-2 mins, after this it was perfect again and back to normal. All I did was let it tickover, nothing else. I've checked for fuel blockages and found none and, as it only happens when the weather is cold and after letting it stand for a few minutes it cleared, I'm thinking more along the lines of the carb "freezing". Is this a normal Ferret problem and is there any known cure? Many Thanks Richard
  18. Hello Tyler, Well, at the moment the Zenith on it seems fine , I'll have see how it goes. But many thanks for the offer. Looking through the Land Rover magazines most of the dealers do Webbers but very few do Zenith , why is this ? Many Thanks Richard
  19. Hello Sean, I don't know if my Zenith is good or not yet. I had a problem today with it running like a pig ( no, not a 4.2ltr RR straight 6!) It was only (just) running on three cylinders, which turned out to be a dead spark plug, replaced them all and now it runs lovely. I've not had it long enough to know how many MPG it's doing, I do run a ZIL 131 which does 6 mpg so I think anything in double figures is good! :? Funny you say about warping, I noticed a very slight petrol seep from one of the carb joints. One bolt was able to be tightened about one flat and it now seems to have stopped. I will have to see how it goes and weigh up the pro's and con's Many Thanks Richard
  20. Thats better, new set set of plugs, proplerly set and it now runs loverly. I think I will go with the Webber Carb option next. Regards Richard
  21. Thanks Tyler I said it would be easy. Richard Ps. I've just sent you a PM.
  22. Hello Everyone! This is no doubt a very easy one! What is the correct spark plug gap for a 1983 2,250cc, 4cl, Petrol, Land Rover? Many Thanks Richard
  23. More or less finished. Regards Richard
  24. Hi Tyler, If you PM me your address and I'll see if Mick will pick it up, or I'll collect if I get time. Right, I'm off to bed! Thanks Richard
  25. Hi Tyler, Do you want us to send a cheque for the Aerial base + postage, or we could get the chap who rents the bird centre here to collect it as he lives in Godmanchester. Thanks Richard
