  1. Hi Tyler £4 sounds fine, have you got a base plate and aerial? Thanks Richard
  2. Tyler, where? :? I can't find it, how much do you want for it? Thanks Richard Ps. Thanks, sean101ryan for that.
  3. Oh..I see. :? So even though it has a civvy cross member and rear fuel tank it is still military? I had a feeling that those holes were for an aerial base but I wasn't 100% sure, many thanks. Tyler, is that you who's got that on Ebay? Regards Richard
  4. Hello, Thanks Tyler, it will stay the same colour scheme just a satin finish to match the trailer and Militant. Hello Richard, I'm guessing that the drop plate was for a caravan in it's civvy life, I found a booking form for a ferry crossing to the Isle of White under one of the seats so it has been used for holidays. If you notice the 12 pin socket is still on the vehicle with a "12v Negative Earth" sticker below, hopefully it's still connected! The Nato hitch is ready and waiting to go on. There is also a plate in the cab with an FV number on it. One question, if you look at the side photo, on the canvas there is a black circle, made of thick webbing. Directly below this on the body work there is 2 holes and an outline where something like a plate was mounted, what was likly to be there? Thanks Richard
  5. Right here it is. Where the red cross was. It's military reg is 18 KB 32 and according to it's Cast form is was a field ambulance . I'm really surprised at it's condition, it needs a respray but underneath it's like new. Can't wait to take it for a run but I'm waiting for insurance docs to come, so I'll have to just move it around the yard. It's strange, when I had my 2A it felt massive, now after the ZIL and Militant this one feels tiny. It's a bit like a Mini Mily! Regards Richard
  6. yes, we were going to drive it back, but as it's about 90 miles and have to go on the M1 we decided to get it trailered. It's a 1983 so it has to be taxed which is a pain, but as the insurance is only £15 a year fully comp (on the same policy as the others) it tends to cancel that out. When I had my 2A I had no mechincal skills ( some would say I still haven't! ) and it was a real pig. In the year I had it I did less than a 1000miles and spent over a £1000 on repares alone. It was good fun to drive though. As it was a little battle scared I never had to wait long to pull out or to cross main roads, just spot a Metro coming and "ask" him to let me go. Right, I'm off to bed! See you later Richard
  7. Hello Yes it would be better. I did the trailer in satin finish NATO Green. No black markings, just red detailing on the hitch and pins. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, I'll have to post a picture. Richard
  8. Pity there isn't a chat room ..eh Tyler? Richard
  9. please sir, I want to vote again! I think I make up 25% of the Eastern Block owners on here and no one else has voted for them  Regards Richard
  10. Don't think it would fit in a disabled parking space though! Mind you, if it did and you walked with a limp.... Cheers Richard
  11. And isn't it fun trying to get through to the right person at Swansea. Mind you, I'm sure when I phoned them once I got "David, the only gay in the village"! I was trying so hard not to laugh I never did get the problem sorted out. Regards Richard
  12. Hello Nick I was reading in one of the MV magazines that in some states in America that there were plans to introduce scheme where a Military Vehicle would retain it's Military Reg as it's civilian Reg which makes a-lot of sense, especially ,as here, the MOD do not re-use their numbers. Is this correct and has it been introduced? In the same article it said they were also thinking of changing the law so Large ex- Military Vehicles could be driven on a standard licence instead of needing a special licence. Maybe if VOSA introduced a "Large Vehicle Not for the Carriage of Goods" category registering would be a-lot easier for us. Regards Richard
  13. Hello It's actually in very good condition. It came out of service about 7 years ago and has been very well looked after. MOTed last week and only needed two new tyres and new wiper blades. The chassis is very good. just one very small patch, everywhere else is like new. I was amazed that it started from cold with the first flick of the starter. ( my old 2A was a pig for starting) It's a full soft top which is also in good condition. The paint work is as it was when it left service so as in is now quite faded I will give it a respray.(patina of use?) 27mpg! wow.., that would make one of the most economical vehicles we've got!... We could use it everyday! I will definitely be looking in to that. I don't know if the previous owners have changed anything already. It's being collected on Saturday so if the weather's good I'll take some photo's and post them. Regards Richard
  14. Hello Just brought an ex-military Series 3 LWB Petrol Land Rover. Don't know anything about it's service life but it's got it's military reg. so we should be able to find something out about it. You can make out there used to be a circle with a cross on the doors so having looked on http://www.emlra.org it looks like it was a field ambulance. One question, is a military Land Rover alot different to a civy one in regards service manuals? Is a Haynes manual good enough or do I need a military one? It's not the first Land Rover I have had. My very first car was a Series 2A LWB which I learned to drive in. This was a diesel and was slower than George Bush! It was also the most unreilable vehicle I have ever owned and I strongly believe there is no such thing as a nice Land Rover. There are Land Rovers that look nice but they are all , in fact, evil things! So why have we brought another one? Don't know really, there is something about them isn't there?! Regards Richard
  15. Hello Tyler I don't know, luckily mine were already registered before I got them. But I do wonder how some MV's get registered for the road. I've seen big vehicles registered as a pre 1960 to get around the MOT and HGV liecene even though every bit of info I've seen on them states they weren't made until much later. When I was looking for a Reo they were all "made in" 1959!* If you ask the DVLA or VOSA for details you just get passed from one person to another as square MV's don't fit onto their round holes. I'm sure there is lots on here that do know though. Cheers Richard *Yes, I do confess to thinking of buying an American MV. I was young, I was stupid, it will never happen again.
  16. Yes, I can see something now! Very Spooooky! Richard
  17. Somewhere that I'm sure is haunted is the large black building/hanger at Withams. It is said that it staged the last performance of Glenn Miller and it definately has a "feeling" about it. It's the building where the toilets are and I was in them once and something pasted through me!  Honestly! Richard
  18. or your camera's ka-put!  Richard
  19. Hello I haven't put an ad on MILWEB yet but I will soon, but I did have a little phone around today and was shocked at how much people want for them. And there don't seem to be full sets available. So, as I'm tight and like welding I'll probably make some. I think it will be easier to make some from scratch than to repair badly rusted and dented ones. Cheers Richard
  20. I can't make my mind up on the colour. I really like the sand and green scheme, but most people, even if they have no interest in MV's, know that sand and the upturned triangle is a Gulf War colour scheme. So it will probably stay like this. I am thinking of removing the ladder and refitting a set of side lockers. No doubt if I decide to do this the entire nations supply of Ferret side lockers will dry up and I will have to spend a fortune having a set made. Or I'll get a set in really good condition for hardly any money and they won't fit Does any one know the were abouts of some lockers? Regards Richard
  21. Good idea! It's strange sometimes when there is 8-10 people on at the same time but no-one posts anything. It's a bit silly putting a post just to say hello. Hello by the way! Richard
  22. I'm quite lucky, we live on site but the workshop is a fair way from any neigbours. They don't seem to mind to much anyway they quite like the vehicles. Even though one of them calls my loverly ZIL 131 a septic tank wagon! :? Yes, I think the Ferret will be next to be resprayed. I think that will be very rewarding as the paint now on it is so matt it always looks dirty. Cheers Richard.
  23. Thanks Tyler I like to spray, I just find it's easier, especialy around all the catches and fixings. And it gives me an excuse to make lots of noise with the compressor! Regards Richard
  24. This is it with first coat applied. Finish coat will be satin finish Thats quite a good idea! And having a towing hitch on the back several could be towed at same time! How many trailers can you legally tow with one vehicle? Regards Richard
  25. Well, I've just had another look at the Withams photos on Chris's site and all the Tool trailers are just plain green, so if there is ever a "pub quiz" on here I want to be on Clive's team! What side should the Union Flag be on by the way? :? What is the difference between a ABDR (Aircraft Battle Damage Repair) kit and a Comms trailer? Cheers Richard
