i think since they left the army that has been their only home..one field after another...sad very sad, Nick has done some great things up at his place, hs has had a fantastic vision and carried it through, but those stollies are not doing well where they are...
-
yes got to agree that. As long as Nick sells them to collectors then that will be great. I guess he is slowly getting there.....he certainly fell lucky on finding those machines...its a shame though they didn't go where they will be used.
I would love to get two more and restore them...but then I would love a lot of other toys...
-
hey the cummins diesel conversion, did you do that yourself, which cummins did you use, i lose track of models and what power...I want to try and get about 300 bhp if i upgraded...but will likely stick with the petrol for now
-
yep a real waste, and slowly going to the knackers yard through neglect...real real shame..
-
they just say 15 x 22.5,,,they are not very tall...i suspect they are something like 385x 65 x 22.5
-
no just into Farnborough Farnham and along the hogs back. I didn't have a flashing beacon, the truck is not limited to 20mph and is not so slow to be a hazard. But maybe I should think about having them fitted anyway...
-
yes could not believe my eyes...

on boggy terrain everything gets bogged down...and the scenario you mention is the worst, three wheels off road three on...bad news indeed...I would have made the landrover stay, and then swung the crane over and lifted him up to counterbalance the weight and so help the truck to un stick itself...done it a lot with my 4 x 2 non off road crane which gets stuck even if it sees a muddy patch let alone going off road...but i have the vehicles to unstick most of them now...
-
Okay it arrived last night, could not get her running...fuel line split just by the fuel pump...all sorted now and she is running a treat. Crane working and will now get on the job of restoration, need two new wings some new screens and a door window, the hoops for the roof and the canopy..she is road legal but I will buy her a new set of tyres as soon as I can to improve her off road abilities...
and I am on the trail for all the CES which is a long list...new screen glass and door glass and a few bits and pieces...she is a fun vehicle.
she drives very easy for a 16 ton plus truck...

yes it was a good day, the Camo ural has a few niggly little issues, throttle linkage a bit stiff and the brakes are air over hydraulic and are coming on extremely fiercely, from nothing to full lock in the blink of an eye...ouch...hoping something is just stiff and in need of sue...will dive her a bit and see how she goes...
The other ural is a real dream to drive...had to clean out the filters as the driving is now dragging up all the **** from the tank, it will take a few fills I guess to remove it all and a few in line filters...
The stars wont venture out until I have someone with me to accompany me in case of need...that will have to wait until next week as I am away this weekend...
-
gosh yes, I have loads to do and loads to find, a UK supplier of parts would be godo, how did you do the conversion, I may want to emulate this, how does it all work the list is endless right now

My M62 is arriving in three hours, it was made in 1953...can my son with his B-licence drive it...it seems to say yes in the DVLA notes but they are not at all simple and the british language can be very ambiguos if not done carefully and to me it snt clear....anyone know what the situation is for real..
my son is 17 and has his B licence, can he drive my 1953 truck...
-
there are a lot of proviso's, width is an issue, and so too are many other issues...for instance on some of the trucks there is a panel that juts out that takes it 20 mm over the width limit...it is permanently fixed to the vehicle and needs to be taken into account, if you remove it job done...you do have to consider the issues...and talking to VOSA is part of that.
I hope the review will remove the majority of the impositions taken over the registering military vehicles...we know they are outside of some specs but as long as they are not working trucks/vehicles they should be exempt most of the regs...my opinion anyway...
-
okay i will be taking the newly registered trucks onto the road today...will start with a short run to the petrol station, give them about 60 quids worth of petrol each and then a drive back the longish way. All in all about 20 miles. think that will be enough for the first shake down drive...
-
hi PM me if you want full details.
it isn't at all difficult but be wary of this comment from the inspector,' the military collectors are always unhelpful..' the problem may be us not them...
I just say be honest and straight and you will have no problems.
Zils are fetching good money but you can still buy a good one for less than 5k, delivered to the UK...registration is all about what you want to use them for...the MOT is a pain as they want to stick all sorts of bits on them so you have to pick your options regarding use very carefully......ask me if you really want to have a zil 131...i have four and would love more they are superb machines..and i am off to get a few more toys this month so if anyone wants anything let me know....
I spoke to VOSA and the DVLA and got stuff in writing, even though they say that what they say may not be legal, i cannot imagine a court saying to me, VOSA didnt know and what they told you was a lie so you mister are in trouble....just cant see it...so i do as i am told and here we are with four trucks registered.
They are 375 d's petrol...I am going to buy a couple more and fit cummins diesels to them...need a c series 210 or more and they will be a very good working truck then...will use that in the woods if i ever get there...so many projects and not enough hands
-
thats also because you are too big for it baz...nowt to do with the load in the trailer...
-
the DVLA seem to genuinely want these trucks kept alive, i am sure they are not really trying to stop us having our fun...and these machines are very nice indeed.
-
okay i have registered my two urals and two star 660's, get number plates tomorrow and will go roading them out and about. just to make sure everything is running fine...got to fit my reversing cameras to them all...dont like driving these things without that...the zils have a back window and its easy to see out the back, not the ones with a rudy great box on the back...
anyway will take a trip to the house in one of the urals tomorrow to see how she shakes down...will be fun...ooh hope it doesn't rain, not going to drive them in the rain.
-
there are a few of these for sale from that Uk stroicar site, biggish money...must be a very good truck...
-
Kamaz trucks win the dakar reguilarly you cant knock em...
-
its all helping, i am totally new to Amercian machines so have a good deal to learn...
-
Okay, I hope to be coming, will likely bring an M62 wrecker and a Ural 375d maybe a zil131 too if i can get it all sorted by then.......I will drag along a gaz 69 on the back of the ural or on a trailer behind one of the trucks...
I will need a driver to drive one of the trucks...non of my sons yet have their HGV/lGV.
Anyone fancy driving an M62 or a Ural or a zil131 to the do...from Guildford..
-
Some one has offered me M52 manuals, are the trucks the same...or should I find the proper M62 ones...
-
yes and I think i will get a set of on road tyres for it which are not as expensive as i thought...chinese ones for 180 quid a piece...if they are wide enough...so i will change the tyres when I want to go off roading with her...
just organising pick up...
