  1. Nice effort to get it back running again, I am just finishing a 6x4 Studebaker for the comming rally season(ex british army) , only thing missing is the interior cab lining and strips to hold it in position , is there anybody with detail interior pictures ? also what material is used as door seals rubber or canvas ?

  2. Nice bike , just one question about the front mudguard , wyhave some a rib in the middle and others are plain like the rear ones ?

I also got a co , but am still on the search for a decent saddle cover , most I have seen are bad (cheap)reproductions .

  3. Tanks with radials want to keep moving , otherwise fuel starts boiling in fuel tanks , in Mons they made the mistake to let it go to everything but tanks in town , even after we discussed this matter in advance , in the morning inexpierenced guys put the convoy together with all the weasels, kettenkrad`s, m8`s 1/2 tracks and that in front so the heavy armour had to race or stand iddle for long times , not workable . several years before big tracked in front and the rest could follow , this kept everyting rolling , the wheeled armour is a lot more flexible .

  4. Best thing to do is clean it to the first layer of paint , or under tow hook .

Mine was olive drab under tow hook , but I have also seen one from a friend who was brown . Late versions with the lighting equipment have also been like a matt deep bronze green .

So as long it is not painted in Nato green you will be OK

  5. Any recommendations on how to do it. I was planning on staying at a city centre hotel not far from Grand Place. Is it easy to get to and park at the Bois Brule etc?

    Cheers, Richard

Parking is not a problem at Bois Brüle , just when you get back to your car it will be empty :embarrassed:

  6. So you're taking your Sherman back to its wartime condition rather than a M4A4(transforme) as it would be in French post war service?

If it is being done as a M4A4 T , you could better make it into a TT , there is plenty room for 2 radials in the engine compartment , So were are these 18 cilinder radials ?

  7. Funnily enough, I am him! :cool2:

aah over here all those Dodge WC owners tell me they have all the parts I need in stock at their sheds , when I show them then a Multibank part ,then they explain that it is a Bubba item I have :-D

  8. You are right.... I remember when Budge was selling take outs for £250 and new ones in boxes for £2500.

And were we were last Sunday , that is the place these radials came from , and were then sold on to Budge for 500,- € new in the box.

rubber tracks were 1200,-€ in those days

  9. I have to check that number up on that firefly , got it written down somewere.

Yes it is a new turret ring , the other was missing . Actually I started with an empty Hull , everything was taken out to remove the differential carrier through the Hull instead of taking the final drive housing of

  10. but what is meant by the last to be converted !! If you look at pictures in Normandy , you see already IC `s on the move . On the other hand I found a IC hybride in a book about Holland , and later found a picture of the same tank (same T number ) in Use in Normandy still with the 75mm gun in it . So even tanks already in use were converted .

M4A4 `s on the other hand with electric turret traverse were never earmarked for conversion , all the ones in Europe with 75mm gun in it as monument are with electric traverse.

The M4A1 is never used as Firefly because with the rounded sides there is no place for the rearranged stowage , the Grizzly converted in canada doesn`t have all the stowage bits converted.

  11. No, I have not seen it.

Did come across this pic of Sherman final drive housings. As these have VVSS sprockets they must be there for spares, as all the yarders using Sherman components have HVSS tracks.

Hanno look at the steps on the front and on the left side , these front ends are from M10/ Achilles

  12. I'd love to see the photos but the server won't let me! I'll have to wait until I'm back in England, but it SOUNDS very interesting, thanks for saving a piece of history. Nevermind one Sherman troop, the HMVF will have a couple of troops at this rate.. maurice, yours is a Ic right? How is it coming along?

Alastair , yep mine is a IC tonight the front ammo rack is going in at the ex co drivers place , was a bit of getting the pipework in for the wirreless junction box behind the ammo rack , the pipng is different then in a VC , so had to investigate several wrecks before finding out the routing . Funny size pipe as well 19mm outside diameter.

next to the drivers seat was a bracket wich I also couldnt figure out , but saw in 2 other wrecks the same thing , in one i openned the lid and discoverred the starting relay in it , makes sense to relocate it , because if it stayes in the orriginal possition , you can`t reach it without taking the ammo bins away , and for that the turret has to come off as well . So it must have been a weak point on early firefly`s , till now I have only seen 3 with this mod . Next thing is drivers seat wich model ? spring loaded tube frame type or scissor type , have to go to Wiltz in Luxemburg to see what is in that one . the Wilts one is from the same period as mine .
