  1. Thank for that john:-D. The doors had to be forced up to shut with a slam, and the frame rubbed the door ,also the top of the door was not level with the rear panel or top of A post also the rear timber body was 2 1/8" longer one side than the other, still deal with that later. looks a bit poorly,need more room i have taken over the wifes garage and the garden shed plus drive, still more to take off.Got to straighten the chassis got a 2 1/2" twist , i think this is the cause of all the probs. thanks for the intrest phil.
  2. thank very much for that info :-). i will try it out this weekend. when i took it all to pieces the cab floor mounts were made up of several flaps of rubber do you know what hight the mounts should be ,as the uneven packing and the fact that that it is conected to the steering column throws the whole bulk head out so doors dont shut bonet bad fit and a funny twist in the windscreen frame.

Hi i am GPS I have recently acquired a bedford MW:-D ,as i am new to this vehicle i have got many questions:confused:.Is there any way to take the slack out of the stearing box, i have got about quarter of a turn on the stearing before the drop arm moves and as it reaches full lock in either direction tightens.It is still mounted in the chassis and all the body has been removed so access to the box is easy ,many thanks GPS

  6. Sorry yes Khahki , greenish brown felt . dose this mean that only ranked soldiers could wear the artificer badge? Did it wear fabric putties or leather or canvas gaiters in the 50s?

Thankyou for responding.I take it that the coveralls was every day work wear,was the brassard the same sort as worn by us in the cadets.The uniform i have got is a 1950s battle dress uniform , is this wrong and not fit for purpose :-(.The trade badge is large and embroided on green felt. i am trying to get it right as i have found it is easy to offend by getting it wrong.Need help:embarrassed:.
  8. I own a 1950 scammell explorer and I am trying to put together a uniform from the same period. Does anyone know where to position the artificer badge and on which arm should it be. I have asked people some serving some retired and I'm getting different answers. I have got the R.E.M.E. and southern command badge on the top of each sleeve.

  10. hi all after going out on a jolly in the old girl i felt each of the wheel drums the triler ones were worm as were the rear on the lorry the front n/s wheel that i have done was a bit hoter , so is working well ,the o/s front wheel drum is stone cold so it looks like they must be sized more work :sweat:the linkage from the air cylinder is moving so must be deeper.is this a common fault or just mine :-\

  13. are you ready for dorset steam.mine has been parked for so long the grass round it is nearly as high as she is , would let the cows in but they would tread the ground and they keep breaking the lights and air lines :argh: they escaped the other day and broke of one of the head lights of:argh::argh: dad denied it.its funy how its always the same one.

  16. thanks chrisg i now what you mean went over to the lorry today but the heat got the better of me feeling a bit rough, no shade:sweat::sweat:. have not got to the other side yet hope its not so bad
  17. the shoes werw stuck and now i found that one of the bearing in the front hub is:argh::argh: and i need it to keep the wheels turning :shake:
  18. on checking the bearings found they were worn but serviceable all but one and the seal was ok:sweat:now need another bearing chisg. outer timken 71760, inner timken 71437 roller taper bearing there is other stuff on it but cant read it :-D
  19. now i am looking at the front brakes ,it seems to pull one way when initially apply them then release slightly.:??? i was glad i looked one shoe was seized so not moving at all ,the other moved about 2mm then jamed:idea: that would explain what was happening.here is the pics

  21. 3rd rally 1oo miles round trip, clutch went again :argh::argh:the adjustable clutch linkage undone.then the brakes over heated down a hill :sweat:talk about brake fade,:shake: they are not that good to start with.then to top it all the starter would not dissengage burnt it out ,all in all a good trip
  22. father in law was clearing out his office and came across his old hand book for the CHURCHILL A.R.V II from when he was in the reme ,it is a shame they dont do hand books like that any more a good read:-D made it back from rally No 2 still got problems with the clutch im about to loose it with her this will be the 3rd time i have had it all to pieces :argh:
  23. this morning i went to start the scammell and smoke came out from the starter switch pannel followed by a fizzing sound . I hit the isolater switch and waited for the smoke to clear before returning to the cab. On doing so after a bit of looking I found that water had got into the switch board and it was all corroded. On further inspection many of the switches were not serviceable resulting in a total rewire of the dash with more modern switches. All seems to be working a treat so far and I now even have dash illuminations :yay:.
  24. dont worry according to some, due to the climate change westminster will soon be under water then the ministers can claim for a yaght to get to work aswell as a second home. Or they will move Westminster to higher ground and we can pay for that privalidge too!:argh::argh:
  25. i was told by a fellow that older guns muskets cannons ect you must have a black powder licence as they could be fired as there is no true way of deactivating them without destroying them ?:??? is this so :???
