  1. Hi chaps, Don't suppose anyone has a couple of new oil filter elements for a meadows engined scammell lying around? Are you still abe to by new ones or is there a pile of old stock somewhere? I have cleaned mine up but even the airline fails to penertrate through to the center. A new oil filter should not drop oil pressure more than 3psi so god nows how many psi my old ones are dropping. Could really do with some pronto if poss. I will use mine if i have to but would rather try new ones if possible. Hope you can help Rob.
  2. Well i've had a busy couple of days having to go and see family ect but have now had a day and a half on the Scammell. I have now refitted the Donkey back in the stable and plonked the rad back on, The bonnet is fitted and so are the home made side panels. I have so far managed to connect the diesel feed and stopper cable ( I got fed up after all the heavy stuff) still got to fit the rear stays to the bel housing and muff couplings ( How many times to you get to use the word "muff" without getting frowned upon ) Will try to post some pictures soon and may even include a graphic picture of a "muff":cool2: When i got bored i decided to connect the workshop air compressor to the scammell and pump up the tanks to check for leaks ect. And after tightening a few fittings all is well apart from one valve thingy. Mine is an early one with 3 tanks two on top and one under. I think the main tank is the front one on the top (it has the air gauge conected to it) this tank has a valve thingy on the end (a pressure reducer ?) which has a breather pipe coming out the top of it. There is air coming out of this breather pipe now. The truck still reaches full pressure and unloads, just wondering your thoughts. I think it may have rained into the breather tube and now something has stuck.
  3. :cool2:Well here is mine and as i don't know how to do links and things you will just have to type " Re: B&W double acting 2 cycle @ diesel house Copenhagen " in to youtube. Not a military engine but pretty good . Stick with it its a good film don't be tempted to fast forward!!
  4. New seals have arrived and are now fitted. Clutch and flywheel are on bellhousig too. Front seal and housing, crankpully, compressor, ect the old donkey is now ready to go back in.:sweat: just got to clean the chassis and all the nuts and bolts. Mabey plonk it in next weekend if i have time and good weather.:clap:
  5. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
  6. Can't bring myself to clean mine up till i know it's going to work. Looking good, No need for tin foil round your sausage rolls when your warming them up just slap them straight on the manifold. You could even eat straight of the heads.:thumbsup:
  7. I have managed to make gaiters out of old leather trousers or an old leather coat from a charity shop:idea:. I am planning to make a steering ram gaiter out of a fat mans leather trouser leg. Jubalee clip each end and lace up the split, Have to make sure it dosent bundel up on full lock. Good Quality shammiy leather makes a fair small gaiter. Just smother it with oil when fitting.
  8. So are we up to 36 seals or am i too pi**ed to count?:beer: Need to sleep now. Please feel free to pm me to sort out payment ect.I am i no hurry but it would be one less thing to sort out when the time comes.
  9. Hi there. Put a diesel diahatsu fourtrak engine in my series 3, 2.8 turbo without intercooler. scrap fourtrak cost £100 conversion kit cost £300 (bell housing adapter + engine mounts) no need to weld chassis and for £30 you can send the flywheel and have it drilled for the series 3 clutch. this engine will out pull a 300tdi defender and run out of cogs even with an overdrive. google "Conversion and precision engine conversions" for more info Would personally not bother with a rover engine at all. Jap all the way (it pains me to say it):shake:
  10. yes put me down for ten too:) Mabey worth starting new thread so we can get ourselves sorted with numbers and postage ect.
  11. I would take a full set of seals too ( Depending on price) as i am sure they will leak when it hits the road again. Keep us posted:)
  12. Hi there if you have any luck finding the seals let me know as mine were leaking when i got her home. I have since drained 45 liters of oil out of the walking beams and they have stopped. I have'nt driven it for about 3 years so they may still leak when its on the move. If you have to get some made let me know as we could go halves on the cost. you never know a few others may need some too. PS Mine is a first contract explorer are the seals the same as the later ones.
  13. Al back together and sat in it's stand in the garage. having trouble getting the rear crankshaft oil seal but think ive found one now. Then i will throw the flywheel and clutch at it then plonk it in the truck.
  14. Doh! I haven't got anything with mine either not a sausage... nothing. The ground holdfasts go for £90 each!:shake: If you click on the picture and then click on it after it opens up you can zoom in and its easyer to read. (well it works on my computer)
  15. I assume you are talhing about the equipment list. difficult to keep track with various conversations. Suppose this is the rear axle thread Sorry i don't have pictures of individual pieces of kit so you will have to ask the others and do some reserch (all part of the fun ) There was a Scammell explorer at the noth fort in Weymouth, The chaps there said it was fully kitted out. wonder who bought it and where it is now. Very rotten living next to the sea.
  16. pioneer....Explorer i did'nt think there was a comparison!!:cool2:
  17. It may sound funny, but has anyone fitted a hand operated clutch brake? (Brake handel on gear leaver with bowden cable to brake) Definatley no danger of accedentel braking and very handy when engaging a gear at rest. Having seen some of the things you've created, sorting out a clutch brake system would seem easy.:-D
  18. Will also post this elsewhere. I also have the operators manual in case anyone wants to know how to drive one. Repaires to vehicles in the field (using chewing gum and bits of wire) and recovery layouts for a and b vehicles. (a bloody good read with examples of snatchblock layouts and compound layouts. includes calculations of pul required for sand. deep mud and vehicle weights) diagrams how to recover a churchill tank using a pioneer with a 6-1 pull giving 36 ton pull with frictionall losses. 6 holdfasts needed!!!
  19. The decompressor clearences are 15 tho ensuring rocker is touching valve stem. My meadows decompresses on the inlet valves. Adjust inlet and exhaust clearences before decompressor clearences.
