  1. Hi All... picked up Triumph 3SW for restoration and will need your collective help on this one.

I've restored a few Triumphs before but this will be my toughest challenge to date! Looking at the standard of restoration set on here I have work to do!!

I'll post up some more pictures and some questions in the projects thread but have added one here to start. What do you think of my 3SW?

When they say just the basics! Good luck. Look forward with interest
  2. Just another WW2 monument to most, not to me.For years I placed flowers there on our remembrance dag (May4th) in name of a veteran who was there (Ray Surrey).

He is gone but I won't forget. (Rest in peace my friend.)

Today its 72 years ago it happened

So this afternoon I went to the monument alone and did a small ceremony reciting the "we will remember" poem.

A personal poignant moment. Others were there in spirit with you at your shoulder. You were not alone.
  3. Okay the boys were off to collect a small 24 volt geny from Near Whitby that I was planning on using to jump start the trucks when they are away from mains power plus a mobile home ready for the volunteers to overnight in. Long journey I know but its also an involved story, not for on here for now. Anyway they have broken down, the drive shaft carrier bearing has failed, I bet it has not been greased for an age. I was under there today and never noticed any problem with it. They are stuck just off the motorway and awaiting a repair from A.E. Wilson who will try to source the bearing tomorrow and fix it...then the boys can carry on their journey...here's hoping all will be okay.

Depends on the vehicle mostly do not have greasers now. Hope they have got it fixed.

  4. Had a visitor in the workshop today, a friend now in his 80's who I hadn't seen for some time. For many years he was employed as a commercial vehicle mechanic by the local authority but apart from the fact that he was originally a Londoner born and bred we had never discussed his previous 'life'. My jeep was parked in the workshop and as he walked in his face lit up on spotting it, rather to my surprise his immediate comment was 'I've driven hundreds of them', as I was raising a somewhat cynical eyebrow and before I could say anything he carried on 'I know that's a French one' not knowing it belonged to me and and after only a quick glance at the side and rear from 15 to 20 feet away as he entered the building. There obviously being a lot more to this than met the eye I wanted to know more, a lot more.

As its now after 2am and I have to get up at my usual time of 6.30 am I will, hopefully, continue this story for anyone interested later today.

    Keep it coming
  5. we haven't topped it up yet so will have a go at that tonight, its an awkward cuss to check, but we will get it...it does feel like it is pumping air at times...
Cab lifters can be a pain, because they are not used very often when you go for them the gremlin is waiting.
  6. I don't see it either, can someone enlighten us please?

    David

Running with Ki Gas increases the power output, but lifts the internal stress levels above the metals capabilities. Hence blown gaskets and legs out of bed. It should only be used sparingly for starting.
  7. now here is a funny one, my foden GS cab tilt only works part way up and now wont go back down...anyone got any ideas...I am presuming there is a stuck valve somewhere but anyoie know if I am missing something obvious before I go stripping the thing..
Sound like it is short of oil
  8. Sounds like fuel a supply problem, If it runs O.K. and starts to run rough when you want some power there is not enough fuel pressure or flow, Filters are the usual suspects. I always start with the least expensive item, clean and change. If you have a manual check to find all of the filters. Regards John. Sorry I meant to say even if it turns out to be a pump fault this work still needs to be done, as restricted fuel supply can damage a new pump.

  9. Although a "bracket" it looks to me yes more like clamp. Given the DMC of W8 & the NSC 1095 the only thing that seems to fit for both is for mounting some "weapon" to a Wheelbarrow such as Pigstick or shotgun. I have the EMERs for Mk7 & AESPs for Mk8 with the ISPLs for both but can't for the life of me find any of them at the moment.

The phrase Never give up comes to mind. John.

  10. John I have searched for that, as others have no doubt tried, but come up with nothing.

I have found 91,524 items within that NSC & 176,137 Brackets none of them that share those two parameters that are British. Nor could I get any sense from items that included the manufacturer's number 33811.

Zooming in, as I neglected to do originally, it looks as if the NSN is actually 1095-99-2505-026 (rather than 1095-99-2503-021)

That gave a result as "Cancelled without replacement"

Thank you for trying, I could not distinguish 1 or 6. Regards John.
