  1. Very heavy on petrol and exhaust valves in my experience. Civy Options if I remember correctly Bedford 330/330 and the best Leyland 350 especially with a Leyland box. I skated over the Perkins R6 not one of my favourate engines, good on fuel because it was dinner time before you got them started if it was not midsummer. Take off manifold induction pipe find piece of wire and wrap a piece of rag at one end dip in diesel light then hold over induction and turn key with luck it would fire. No one ever had Ki gas.

  2. On modern trucks air pressure holds the parking brake off, the service brakes are increasingly fly by wire signals to operating valves. Older models are full air actuation from the foot operated valve to a proportioning valve to differentiate between front and rear axles with load sensing. A piece of dowl wood is handy for hearing internal leaks without dismantling pipework. A none return valve between compressor and main air tank is oftain a scorce of trouble. I would start at the foot valve that is a problematic piece.

  3. The garage with the helicopters was on new lane on the left after turning off Malton road, the Mosquito was somewhere near where the primary school is, but things have changed a lot since I went to school in York and left in 1972, some school friends and myself would cycle through Huntington on our way to Strensall ranges to collect used bullet cases, which is how I saw the Mosquito and helicopters.

Maybe if you spoke to someone who has lived in the area since the late 60s they should be able to help you more. I remember that there was an article in the Yorkshire Evening Press about the Mosquito being craned over the house, but I can't find their archives on line.

I have a vague recolection of the same thing happening.
  4. I forget his name, but I think parts from the Mossie that they burnt making the film went Yorkshire Air Museum and were made into the Aircraft they have there. I think it is named after the mans wife who mostly rebuilt it. Tony Agar I think. I know I could look it up but I am trying to keep the shrinking grey cells alive.

  5. If my brother was driving, I used to reach down and push and twist the gear lever retainer and lift out the gear lever. Then casually offer him the gear lever and ask if he had any use for it. Got him every time, minor nuclear explosion. I thought better of it if father was driving.
