  1. Does sound expensive, BUT I've just looked at an invoice dated 27/1/95 & then I was charged £15.68 + VAT @ 17.5%. So I think you've got a bargain! For less than the price of a seal you can make up an improvised hub alignment sleeve as described in my earlier post. Without the sleeve it is highly likely the seal will be damaged on assembly, although you may not immediately know about it!
  2. Will be their on EMLRA stall in the Shorland.
  3. Needs to order Gayco MI47552525 =Outer hub seal, FV16985, LV6/MT1/GO/M1/4755251/4 I wouldn't assemble the hub without making an assembly sleeve up otherwise trying to align it with all that weight is hit & miss. If you miss you won't know about it until it leaks again & you are back to square one. You are lucky that it wasn't the inner sleeve as you would be stuck I'm afraid. Yes it should be, PW British armour should have Dark Admiralty Grey, the 2 coats of high gloss DBG as the basic coverage over which later went OD & later still NATO Green.
  4. 32 BK 96 oh well you have the engine of 23 BK 90. The original engine for yours was 9004. Yours was built as a FV1602 entering service on 21/9/55 Delivered to 31st B Vehicle Depot Church Broughton Receipt Voucher (which was for 4 Pigs) CBR/R/1726/119 Converted to FV1612 Pig 1958-60 Struck off BAOR 15/2/72 Recovered to Ludgershall AVD 31/5/72 Up-armoured between Sept 1972 – June 1973 & converted to FV1611 role Struck off 6/2/92 That later group of FV1602 vehicles in the 32 BK 60 – 32 BK 99 has always been of interest to me as the 20 of them were drawn to become FV1609 prototypes, in fact mine is not far from you it was 32 BK 74. As for the oil leaks, I expect someone has been pratting around & fitted the hubs back on without using the proper assembly sleeve & crushed the oil seals. I think the outer one has a modern Gayco equivalent but the other one is unobtainable. 14 years ago I bought the remaining stock from Budge which was the only source at the time. I think I only have a couple left. At the time looking after 3 Humbers required quite a few seals to be replaced that had been damaged by bodgery. This is covered here down the page here: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=7062&highlight=hub+sleeve+humber&page=18
  5. Jamie, the 2nd one sold by XMOD is the correct one ie Lamp, filament, 26v 50/50w, S shape clear LV6/MT3/6240-99-995-4508 There was a later bulb also 50/50w fitted to Hornet that would do LV6/MT3/5935-99-805-2907
  6. Jamie that engine was originally fitted to pig 23 BK 90 which was a FV1612 but changed after up-armouring to FV1611 role ie APC. So that may be your pig, having a 2-speed generator would add to the credence of that. But it could have had an engine transplant during it's time in NI. By no means did all engines get changed, so I think it is reasonable for the moment to assume that was the ERM of your pig. Unless anyone comes up claiming to own or have seen a pig with that ERM in some other context. 23 BK 90 was struck off to CATC Warminster on 4/1/94 There is a photo of it that I would date between 1972-76 which is copyright of the Tank Museum ref 1370/C1
  7. Won't fit on your pig I'm afraid:-D They've long gone.
  8. Yes so that is a relief I used up about £60 worth of brake fluid trying to bleed them by various means for over a week. Anyway they performed quite well. But the Girling system in Rovers is pretty awful. Nothing like the Lockhead system in Humbers! Just taken the pig for a spin, brakes are so much better & a much more empowering driving experience!
  9. Jamie, yes I think you're right. For anything always best to use the real thing. Just trying to save not just money but time. A journey in either direction given traffic levels wipes out several hours.
  10. I was up until 2.15am trying to complete the Shorland for MOT today after a 12-year lay-up. Took a break & came back to find the wind had blown a door open that knocked over the compressor. Most of the oil leaked out. What oil should I refill it with? Any automotive oil that comes to mind?
  11. Joseph, do you mean "going" as in displaying your own vehicle? If so who is the co-ordinator for MV entries please?
  12. Sorry wasn't trying to nit-pick, it was a dig at the UK weather. What I always forget, rain or not, airfields are drafty places. This year I had to buy a couple of £3 woolly-pulleys from a stall & put them both on!
  13. It depends what you are after but I suspect most of the suppliers of reprint manuals do have them on disc, but not for sale. Their income is based on selling hard copies on a regular basis. I can understand this as once having gone to the effort of scanning a manual they don't want disc copies to get out into general circulation where they will be boot-legged & copies run off for mates. There are a lot of Land Rover discs out there & disc parts book for a Humber. I believe the MVT library had plans to copy manuals to disc as a fee paying but subsidised service to members. I did raise the issue of boot-legging & suggested only hard copies were sold. But the view was that if there was boot-legging then that was a risk to be taken.
  14. This is the first time for many years that it has not clashed with the MVT National Show at Kemble. But even before those clashes my experience was that although the event was well publicised there seemed to be no great enthusiasm to encourage the display of privately owned MVs. When I have gone it was through a word of mouth arrangement of the local MVT. Although I am a MVT member, I am out of the local region & it is easy to miss out on things like this, but as a Friend of the Tank Museum I would like to be involved by taking my MV.
  15. It didn't last year though, cancelled due to the weather. It was postponed until August & then it poured down all day
  16. Well that's good news for pedestrian MVT members. Is that new for this year or has it always been the case at Beaulieu? I'm sure the Museum is an additional attraction for many. I went round it last year when displaying at a police car rally & a commercial vehicle rally. But to my mind it is top heavy with fast cars & that sort of thing rather than more interesting things like PSVs & MVs! In fact I shall be displaying at Beaulieu next weekend on a MVT stall, which I believe is primarily promoting the troops in trucks show at the end of the month.
  17. Tony, Lucas wiper motor model 19W is covered in EMER POWER O 502/1. This covers Technical Description with Unit, Field & Base Repairs. What did you want exploded diagram, circuit diagram, current/speed etc?
  18. That was my Truck Utility Light (High Specification) = Wolf I had booked in the pig but the prospect of achieving an extra 20 mpg for a one day show was somehow far too tempting.
  19. I think you need to define that the charge is only as a pedestrian. No charge for entering a MV. At the other show, I don't think a pedestrian waving a MVT/IMPS card at Beauleau staff will meet with much success.
  20. Hello you old lurker. You're very modest but this man puts in an awful lot of time, that is largely not acknowledged, in running a site & club magazine. So lime pickle butties are on you next time we meet. That reminds me, there are still some nick-nacks here with your name on from the great closing down sale.
  21. Adam sorry, but I had to ask about the lubrication of the Tracta joints. The presence of lubrication nipples so often is seen as an invitation to put grease in not oil. Anyway obviously you've got it all sussed. Well if all else fails with the servo I do have a spare one here for sale. I'm glad your passengers appreciated their trip, obviously you've not been tempted to go mad with guns, flags, fluffy toys etc
  22. Adam, where do you think it went? Joint leakage or through the breather? Most Humbers I've looked at it froths out through the breather, the type of oil used is crucial. Although I did have a situation where it was being blown through & filling up the diff! Hopefully you didn't just top those up but injected oil through from the outer joint housing. Don't know, but do you think it might have been the fluid pressure problem at an earlier stage? BTW Badges look nice, well done.
  23. Yes well done, very well spotted! I wasn't sure whether that was too tough & was expecting requests for clues. But you got it! It is a rather cute acknowledgement to the D-Day training by US forces at Braunton Burrows in North Devon, which is now a nature (oh dear sorry I mean 'biosphere') reserve.
