mike65
A Spitfire has come down in Kent http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-34174822 This appears to be the T9 that is based in Germany and would have been heading for Goodwood Thankfully nobody appears to have been hurt and plane dows not look too bad. Grasshopper
"Looks repairable" can be deceiving, as I expect the engine would need a full strip down and NDT testing and repair due to the shock load on the propeller (as it hits the ground), and therefore crankshaft. Somebody more knowledgeable than this humble railway engineer may be able to comment further. Even a simple derailment on the railway (nowadays thankfully very rare) usually results in a wheel set renewal and resultant fitting/inspection/repair costs, so I expect those costs only increase when dealing with a flying machine. Is that the 2nd or 3rd Spitfire to come down in an unexpected manner this year?

Richard Farrant
A couple of miles from where I work! Says in the report that a wing was torn off. Big gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes this weekend at Goodwood, supposed to be 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes, plus the Blenheim (make that 39 now). Richard Farrant
Just found out it was Rob Davies flying it, he had a lucky escape a few years back when a Skyraider flew into the tail of a Mustang he was flying. Major rebuild if you look at the photos here; http://www.kentonline.co.uk/tenterden/news/spitfire-crash-lands-in-field-42807/

Should be fixable after all the 2 Mk1's were much worse. MIKE
