  1. hi i was wondering if anyone could help me on the following matters weight: i understatnd that the snatch weighs under 3.5ton when not inservice but technically because the weight plate still reads 3.6 then if i were to register it then i would need to HGV MOT it and because my license only lets me drive upto 3.5 tons then i would be breaking the law. so my questions are: at what point do i get it reweighed eg before or after registering it and or mot? where do i get it re weighed eg garage or weigh bridge, will i need a bit of paper or new weight plate to prove the new weight? registering: what form do i need is the disposal papers enough to prove age of vehicle do i do this before or after the mot MOT: do i do this before or after registering any mods or additions that i need to do in order for it to be registered or pass the mot? Thanks Tyler
  2. Hi i am looking for either: transport from loose near maidstone in kent to the huntingdon/st neots area in cambridgeshire, or if anyone else has a vehicle needing or being transported rougly the same route to share or save costs? or any recomended transport firms etc? the vehicle is a snatch landrover. Thanks. tyler
  3. Hi Clive, i think you sent me pics of the Larkspur No4 box when you sent pics of the Westies and spot light. I may well be interested in the both the Larkspur and Eddy boxes. Thanks.
  4. Hi Clive, thought it was after you had first mentioned it, but just thought i'd make sure. P's i still interested in that Fm Pye Westminster with mount if its still available. I also have a 6 pin headset coming so should be able to test the system once it arrives. Thanks.
  5. Here are some pics of the contents of the unknown box. Anyone able to ID the purpose of the box? E.g f it is a amplifier? Thanks
  6. Hi Clive, I am trying to complete the restoration to original as possible whilst working on the basis that there was intercom between the crew be that between all three or just 2 of them as your said a while ago. along with the Pye Westminster as comms/radio to what ever other units. And as i have absolutely no knowledge of intercom and radio equipment at all, along with only basic info on the intercom and radio system used in the Shorland's being available (all of which you have kindly provided). So i am trying to find out: what original intercom equipment/set-up was used in the Shorland if the original equipment is not available then how do i get as close to the original intercom equipment/set up (eg using a Larkspur intercom system (and as much of the current equipment as possible) as this would be closer to the original set up compared to fitting a Clansman set up. So it is making it hard to figure out how to reinstate the intercom system and what equipment etc I need to do this reinstatement So baring this in mind I am essentially trying to reinstate the original communication function between the crew of the Shorland. Because i will be driving it to shows not trailering it, i would prefer someone up in the turret keeping an eye out for other drivers etc and being able to relay info in this regard back to the driver rather than yell to communicate etc. Clive as I know nothing of Radios etc this didnt cross my mind, but its a good point as why would they leave these 2 boxes in and take others that had possibly been fitted. So does anyone know if the intercom would work with just:an Amplifier, 12v battery, headsets and Adapter unit 'A' box? It turns out the Larkspur box that is fitted to Clive's Shorland (as per his pic) and my Shorland isn't a Interconnection Box LT 4-way No. 4 but rather a Adapter unit 'A' box, it was the little A on the box as seen in Clive's pic that gave it away, so I went and cleaned my box and also found an A on it. Adapter unit 'A' box: Adapter Unit Reception Set 'A' enables Reception Set R210 to be operated as a single receiver without Transmitter Radio C11. Connections are provided for two headsets, 24V supply and 12-pt lead to the receiver. A later version of this unit has a 'Phones out' insulated screw terminal fitted on top. Adapter Unit Headset 'T' may be used to connect additional headsets. I found out that the commanders headset has a 12 pin plug the crewman's headset has a 6 pin plug along with the previously mentioned differences in that the commanders has the selector switch on the microphone and gain control on the personal unit. So do you need the (IBRA) Interconnecting Box Radio Adaptor not the (IBHA) Interconnecting Box Harness Adaptor when fitting Clansman into Larkspur? Thanks
  7. Hi Andy, thanks for that info. Hopefully some one can confirm what you said so as to help both of us as I should think that with a beast like the Abbot you'll definitely be wanting a extra pair of eyes up in the turret.
  8. Thanks for the replies, the reason I asked whether a radio was required was because i found this: Interconnecting Box, Gun Control / Audio Amplifier NSN 5820-99-900-9552 was originally intended for remote audio control of line and radio in British Armoured Vehicles. Has 4 Remote Guns Control lines. Larkspur type connectors for audio and power. Audio Gain control, Radio or Line selector control. 24 Volt operation. Can be used with Larkspur Vehicle Radio equipment such as C-13, C-45, or as a stand alone vehicle intercom system. Simple solution to a big problem, no need to buy a expensive radio system for your military vehicle just to add intercom facilities between the driver and commander. The system can work with or without a radio system. Duplex voice communications is possible. Can interface to Larkspur Vehicle Radio equipment such as C-13, C-45. Works on 24 VDC. Interconnecting box, gun control. This is part of the original Larkspur generation vehicle harness typically used in the FV432 command vehicle of a FV433 Abbot SPG troop. In relation to the IBRA i found this: Interconnecting Box Radio Adapter (IBRA) The interconnecting Box Radio Adapter enables Clansman Radios to be used to their full potential in a Larkspur harness, and provides the Intercom Amplifier for the Larkspur Harness. Can the IBRA be used to add Larkspur equipment to a Clansman set up? if using a IBRA in a larkspur harness with a Clansman radio does this negate the need for a Larkspur radio to enable the intercom function to work? As the IBRA provides the Intercom Amplifier for the Larkspur Harness, does this negate the need for a radio? In relation to different mic's and headsets for crew/commander i found this: Microphone; Differences from the crew mic's are the selector switch on the microphone, gain control on the personal unit and the 12 pin plug (it's more or less a mic with a C box built-in). Headset: Amplivox headset (which double as ear defenders) or the basic headset. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Tyler
  9. Hi could anyone help me , I am looking to have a larkspur intercomm in the Shorland but not sure what other Larkspur boxes i need other than the ones i already have, and do all Larkspur intercomms require a radio to be included in the set up Also can anyone tell me if there any differences between the commandars and crewmans headsets, i have looked on http://www.wftw.nl but it just says they have different microphone, cords, junction boxes and plugs differ, so i was wondering if using different boxes or plog adaptors would sort those differences out, as I have got a compleate commandars headset and another set of headphones but i dont know if its ok to use all comanadrs headset or keep looking for a crewmans set/ i have this so far: Interconnection Box LT 4-way No. 4 unknown make and model amplifier 1 commandars mic 2x headphones and 1 or 2 leads Thanks
  10. Best Bond: yes, best Bond film: up there with the best of them. He might not have the same character as the older Bonds, but without doubt he by far and away the the most realistic and detailed/complete of them all which provides its own character. Really Skyfall has to be seen as its ment to be, which is as a following on of Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace, which is not what the other Bond films did before.
  11. Hi got some more details on Xfire's replica GPMG. My question: Is this the type of flash suppressor you produce at the moment? Xfire's response: Yes we have made this type of flash guard on our sustained fire version, i will be able to send you a picture towards the end of next week. Once I recive pics I will post here for others.
  12. I also inquired about the replicas Cross Fire produce, http://www.xfireuk.com/ heres there response: The GPMG butt is removeable, on both versions that we make (infantry and sustained fire). The sustained fire version has a forward flash arrester which is what you would find on either a turrett or internally mounted GPMG, these normally come without the top sights or carry handle. At the moment we are making a fresh batch for stock to so it would be quite easy for us to make a bespoke version at no extra cost. Our new bibod which is not on any of the milweb pictures is removable and only available as an extra accessory any way. We are mainly an engineering company and in the last 8 months we have been unusually busy with our other work which is why the website has been allowed to slip into darkness and we have not been actively out there, but as I already said we making new stock right now and are about to relaunch ourselves, I will have some GPMG's made in 1 - 2 weeks and can send you up to date pictures then if you would like at that point. Just in case anyone is looking for a GPMG or the Browning .30 cal for there vehicle, http://military-muckabouts.webs.com the butts are removable on these also. Also there is http://www.relics.org.uk who do both the GPMG and Browning .30 cal. And there is a Browning .30 cal for 800 p+p here: http://ekmpowershop5.com/ekmps/shops/greenmachines/daimler-ferretmk23-browning30-cal-mount-1919-p.asp I have no affiliation with any of the sites I have listed, just thought the link would be usefull.
  13. Drawing of GPMG mount: Gallery of GPMG mount: http://s27.beta.photobucket.com/user/landyboy/library/gun%20mount GPMG mount, not known if it is a modified .30 mount: Unknown mounts E.G. weather they are .30 mounts, or modified .30 mounts to fit GPMG s, of original GPMG mounts: (CREDIT GOES TO ORIGINAL POSTERS OF PICS)
  14. Hi I thought I would start a topic for these as doesn't seem to be much info on how to ID them E.G. modified mounts etc, although there are a few topics on here I thought a dedicated point of reference rather than multiple topics my help. This is for the Mounts and weapons that were fitted to Pig, Shorland, Saracen and Ferret turrets. So if anyone else has pics of these mount feel free to post them here so as to increase amount of reference pics. And if anyone can ID any of the mounts then please do so as to increase the chances of others identifying there mounts. I have found some pics on the web of varrious mounts whilst searching for info on my mount so thought I would post them here to help others ID there mounts or prospective mounts etc. (CREDIT GOES TO ORIGINAL POSTERS OF PICS) http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?31166-Wanted-Ferret-MK2-3-30-cal-mount http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?30307-GPMG-in-a-Ferret http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?18851-Northern-Ireland-Ferrets http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?19522-Ferret-GPMG http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?18205-Ferret-GPMG-mounting Vehicle No5 Mk3 mount for Browning 30 cal machine gun: These were for the turretless ferrets, they were designed so that you could use them whilst taking cover in the hull, the first exaple is for sale as per link below the pics. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&key=a4c54307b563ee086b4e6e0a3d2df72a&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fhmvf.co.uk%2Fforumvb%2Fprivate.php%3Fdo%3Dshowpm%26pmid%3D135482&v=1&libid=1352632720159&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bmgparts.com%2Fmount.html&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fhmvf.co.uk%2Fforumvb%2Fprivate.php%3Ffolderid%3D-1&title=Wanted%2030%20cal%20Mount%20for%20Mk%201%20Ferret%20-%20HMVF%20-%20Historic%20Military%20Vehicles%20Forum&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bmgparts.com%2Fmount.html&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13526328422394 It turns out that there is a coller that goes over the .30 Cal barrel (the part which is outside the turret) which I assume was to stop incoming rounds from squezing past the gap between the barrel and the gun mount mantlet. I have found a few pics of it, (I did find a better pic but will have to find it again): Browning .30 Cal mounts. (assumed to be as they have a Browning .30 Cal fitted); Browning .30 Cal, showing mounting points: Drawing of Browning .30 Cal mount
  15. This may help anyone after the mount: http://www.greenmachinesurplus.com in vehicle parts section then in ferret section Daimler Ferret.MK2/3. Browning30 cal mount. Recon and boxed.N0.4. MK1.30 cal mount. As per pictures. Really nice. Last one. they want 800 plus P+P. Tyler
  16. Later in there life a lot of .30cal Brownings were converted to fire 7.62. I had one a few years back it looked externally the same except that it had an aluminum insert fitted where the rounds enter the breach so as to guide the smaller 7.62 into the correct position. I don't know if they were used by the British forces, but if they did then that would possibly save you swapping mounts and guns. Hope this helps.
  17. Hi, Any one know if this commanders mic would be suitable for the equipment/ setup in the Shorland? Thanks.
  18. Hi Clive, thanks for the info. I thought I would post these helmets i also found for sale whilst searching. Racal Acoustics, tanker's helmet. Type 2901/HB/GB, Mark 2. Thanks. Ps credit to original picture uploaders etc
  19. Hi, Thanks for the info, its saved me buying the wrong one. I will probably get the one in the fourth pic as my wife wants a helmet for when shes in the turret and prefers that one to the others (its also the cheapest which is rare for a woman), plus it should work with any/most intercom systems. Dose anyone have any info on sizing guides for these, as don't want to buy one that's too small/big? Thanks.
  20. Hi, I am looking for some help and info on helmets that were worn in British armoured vehicles around the 1970s. As there seems to be very little info out there. I have found several types but not sure which ones (if any) are the correct ones I need, Its for use in my 1972 Shorland, I also want to use a intercomm headset with it,(I am thinking Clansman ANR system as I understand this cancels out wind noise etc) scalp type A1 Thanks. Tyler
  21. Hi, I haven't read this thread fully yet so apologies if this idea has already been put forward. How about using a trailer board, that way no non compliance issues, cheap, can fit reflective rear number plate to it so as to further increase safety. some vehicles will already have a socket for it, and easily removable, and other ways such as beacons etc can still be used if wanted.
  22. Thanks for the perseverance Clive, no doubt it was the last place you looked as is always the case when you want something. So the hole in the left side of the drivers helmet was that for a headset of just so the driver could hear the commands without the helmet covering his ear? Also that leads on to another query I had, what types helmets were they wearing MK3s or AFV type helmets? Does the E&MEI give any info on the Larkspur stuff? Thanks. Ps, I am still interested in the Westminster as Bantams seem just as hard (if not harder) to find than the Westminsters from the looks of it. Sorry for picking your brain so much )
  23. I am based in Cambridgeshire, I won't be using it so being AM or FM doesn't really matter, and I can always swap it with a FM version if i ever come across or find one to increase the accuracy of the vehicle display.
  24. Hi Clive, thanks for the info and help its much appreciated. There seems to be a few types of Pye Westminster E.G. two way or transceiver etc, with different model numbers: Westminster Series W15/W20/W25/W30 etc Which one would be correct? You also said that you had a spare westminster or two in an earlier post, I would be very interested if this is the case. Thanks.
  25. Clive when you say the current configuration apart from the two boxes I have what else other than the Westminster do I need e.g. wiring/leads/cables boxes and headsets etc? Also would this setup have been just radio or also intercom function? And would this have been used by all 3 crew or just commander and gunner etc? Thanks Ps The Shorland is still requireing some work free clutch off, fit new brake cylinders and a rear crossmember and paint and find/make turret ring and seat. Its all ready to do I just need to finish off and move on the others so that I only have the Shorland. But takes time as have no workshop/garage. Must have missed that ebay Shorland as always on the hunt for parts etc.
