Rick W
A photo from D-Day or thereabouts, looks like embarkation prior to invasion. Does anyone recognise where it is? http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/American_troops-1.jpg[/img]

woa2
That is Weymouth Harbour, and the LCAs loading are the Rangers who took Pont-Du-Hoc. The large hotel building in the background is still there.

woa2
That is Weymouth Harbour, and the LCAs loading are the Rangers who took Pont-Du-Hoc. The large hotel building in the background is still there. If you look in 'D-Day Then and Now by After the Battle', Vol 1 page 203, it shows the same view from 1995. Also, the LCIs in the background took US troops to Omaha beach where one LCI was destroyed by an underwater explosion. If you go to Weymouth, go to the harbour and stand where the cross-harbour rowing boat service goes from, and this will be about where the photographer was standing. Otherwise, stand outside the lifeboat station, look across the water, and you can see the complete area.
