Royal Enfield WD/CO/B 1942

Hello,

Since some weeks I'am the owner of a Royal Enfield WD/CO/B from 1942, in parts. After finished a Norton WD16H from 1944 I was looking for a new challenge. It became this CO/B from France, who has arrived last week in the Netherlands. #14656 has leaved the factory in december 1942 and went to 'War Office - Wilford'. Probably it has served at the Home Guard. In the few 'years' I will post questions and results at this topic.

Greetings, Thijs

Congratulations Thijs. Pictures as you go would be good.

If you happen to have an original kick starter for the Burman box. Could you photograph it from the side, with a straight edge and a rule to show the distance of the bend/crank to miss the silencer.  Regards Ron

This kickstarter is now at the RE but it is not the right one for a .../B I think.

Thats an Albion kick starter lever. Just had a look in the WD/CO/B parts book, I wasn't sure, but now it seems that the Burman lever is definitively different:

If you're lucky the Burman equipped Matchless kick starter lever could be the same as the /B. Unfortunately the parts list numbers and illustrations are difficult to compare.

Ariel also uses a Burman 'box, but that seems to be another (straight, not kinked) kick starter:

Yes Jan. A friend is having the same problem and is currently running with a kickstart that he's re-bent the crank on, but it still hits the silencer. Hence my request to find the measurement of the crank.  Ron
