Shroomer
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help me identify this large piece of canvas? Its 2.8m wide and 3.5m long. Cheers.
g0ozs
Is the "AS90" under the arrow a clue ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS-
REME 245
The War Department (WD) becamethe Ministry of Defence in 1964 so unless they continued using that stamp after the 1960's it pre-dates the AS90.
g0ozs
True. By quite a few years! It looks like it was part of something larger or intended to be attached to something more solid along one edge given that one edge has straps rather than eyelets and ropes. I wonder if it is part of a penthouse shelter or similar ? Iain
fv1609
It suggests to me that the leather straps were to attach to a rail of some sort & then the canvas would hang down. This would be likely as the large WD was intended to be clearly displayed as a spoiler to discourage theft, as such a canvas must have been considered as "attractive stores".
