OZITIM
Im opening up some old stock and finding stuff that looks completely foreign to me. I have no idea what these parts are. I hoping someone can tell me what they are and what they are for. Ive opened up a box and found about a dozen of these things. New old stock. British FV markings. The stock was all supposed to be Ferret. It states 'Film scale and Drive Unit (no.2)'. What ever they are, they took a lot of care to look after them, as they are wrapped in foam. They are mint condition. Any ideas? I have a lot of other weird stuff that I will post as I go. Many regards, OZITIM
Richard Farrant
Hi Tim, Nothing to do with Ferret or any other vehicle, it is from a group of numbers allocated to Radio and Television Communications Equipment, except Airborne. Sounds like it is a film drive unit.
g0ozs
It's a film tuning scale - by the frequency range, size and shape I suspect it's from the Larkspur R210 receiver - part of the R210/C11 medium/long range Larkspur HF station - I would have thought it took too much space to fit in a Ferret ? The complete setup in its Australian form is shown at: http://www.remlr.com/wireless/0310-07A-1.jpg and in the lower half of http://www.remlr.com/wireless/b_veh_1960/annex_q/Q%20-%20P05.jpg and the set (without dial markings) at http://www.remlr.com/wireless/larx_R210.jpg and there is some technical info at http://www.qsl.net/vk2dym/radio/r210a.htm - the best dial photo I can find is at http://www.wftw.nl/r210l.jpg I've come across quite a few of the receivers with or missing damaged tuning scales so definitely something the wireless folks will have a use for ! Iain If that's for an R210 Iain is definitely not kidding: I've got one of the receivers where the film scale has ripped and been removed, and the previous owner just closed the case up an sold it on. (Not only is the film scale missing, but so are the covers for it.) They're a nice receiver but tend to get hacked around in civilian hands: holes drilled in case to use an external power unit, internal power unit butchered and converted to AC mains, etc. Vandals!:mad::mad: Chris. OZITIM
I have at least ten units that are in as new condition. As you can see by how they were packed, someone has taken a lot of care to ensure they are protected. They are in sealed packaging and wrapped in foam. Its interesting that they are in the lot that I have, as their isnt a lot of radio stuff with it. A box of radio cables that I will photo and put on here, but other than that, that is it. If anyone wants one (or ten) of these, let me know. Give me a ring on 61 438151730 or 0438151730 in Australia. Happy to post them anywhere. I knew you guys would know what it was. Radios are not my thing. I carried enough of them on my back in the army. Regards, OZITIM
OZITIM
The two units on the right in the photo, are two old ones that were also in the box, but unwrapped and in pretty poor condition.
OZITIM
wow, thanks for sending those pics and the great comments. Now is the time to drag out that radio set and revive it with a new mint condition film scale. This must be to a radio guy, like finding a box of spare tyre hub caps to a Ferret guy. haha

Starfire
Depending on price, the manager of the radio display at our museum would like a couple of new ones. Cheers, Terry
OZITIM
Get him to email me on policepsychology@yahoo.com. Im not sure as to what the price of radio stuff is. If people could give me some idea of what might be a reasonable ask. We are all friends here! Regards
g0ozs
Tim In the UK a non working R210 including a good tuning assembly goes for around £50 (I sold one last year so am reasonably confident of that) and - a working set around £100 to £150 depending on condition - I imagine that a NOS dial will be a few tens of pounds - I guess around AS$50 as 1 Australian dollar is £0.56 today Regards Iain
OZITIM
$50 Aussie dollars would be more than fair. These are first rate. If they are not 100% I will return the money.
OZITIM
OK, you guys were too quick to solve the last picture. Lets try this one. I have no idea what it is. I have a bunch of them. At a guess its a foot step for something.

Im seeing how many are wanted and might be better to send as a bulk lot. But give me this week to make the relevant enquiries regarding the cost of freight. OZITIM
Well well well well. That would make sense. Where I have acquired this collection of parts, they also have a bit of Cent parts mixed in with it. Very interesting. Thats exactly what it will be. Hmmmm, now what to do with the dozen or so, I have. If anyone with a cent wants one, let me know. happy to pass one one. OZITIM
What are these? Image number 4, the orange thing. It has written on it 'Open this and rear cap before use'! I have no idea what this is! Image 5, has a label on it stating 'Lock and remote control RH Door'. FV199604. Also found in a collection of Ferret parts. Guessing that the Ferret has no doors, probably not for Ferret! Any Guesses.
