The Tank Museum
Developed by the Studebaker corporation of Indiana, USA in response to a British Order. It was not actually used for the intention it was built (as an over-snow vehicle to carry commandos on a raid against the German heavy water plant in Norway) however, its very low ground pressure proved useful in muddy conditions... g0ozs
One of my dad's friends in the early 1970s had one that was used to carry everything needed for deer stalking expeditions into the hills behind our farm near Inverness - they were remarkably good at peat and mossy bogs as well as snow! Fond memories ..
Tony B
Wasn't it Geoffrey Pyke of Pyecrete fame (or infamy) came up with the first design and prototype? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Pyke Edited December 11, 2012 by Tony B
Degsy
Wasn't it Geoffrey Pyke of Pyecrete fame (or infamy) came up with the first design and prototype? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Pyke It was his idea for the operation in Norway for which the Weasel was originally designed. The plans for the operation were taken over by a joint US/Canadian group and Studebaker were asked to build a suitable vehicle although the operation was later cancelled.
