Military vehicle i.d info

Sorry if this has been said before, but i've looked and can not find anything.

 

Anyway my question, my friend is restoring a stalwart, it was sat in a wood for 8 or 9 years, its completely rusted but he is re making all the bits (i will have to get him to post pictures in the restoration section)

The chassis plate and data plate are missing or rusted off (trophy hunters probably)

But on the windscreen if you stand and look in a certain direction to catch the light, you can make out the outline of the reg number that must have been painted on the screen.

 

So my question is, with this army number, is it possible to find out the chassis number? Does anyone have a list of vehicle numbers and data, like a registry perhaps.

 

Any idea's and help is much appretiated.
