  1. Thanks Guys , have located a repair kit but just need to check my carb model before buying etc. Yes they seem more reliable although yesterday in 27 degree heat had a problem with fuel starvation/vapourisation- plenty fuel into carb but through carb was negligible - either that or it was dirt or something - never had a problem before but it was laid up for a while before being run after a long few month break.

  2. Hi

looking for a replacement solex carb (Type M. 32 PBIC) for my jeep or a service/repair kit and any info on whereabouts for a manual about repairing same etc.

although 43 GPW it had this in it instead of a carter and cannot afford a carter at moment

    thanks

  3. One thing I enjoyed was the tube of jam (usually Blackcurrant, raspberry, gooseberry or Damson) great to suck out on a tab or spread over the hard tack. The other was the green tube of margarine to fry with or lube rusty items and waterproof weapons- smelled rancid though.

Remember the baconburgers (in different menu box from bacon grill - wrapped in grease and heartburn for most of day)

One supplementary ration from the NAAFI was the small tins of creamola foam to add to the purified 'swimming pool' water bottle.

  4. Same here- this was a guy who contacted me with exact part (engine block) I was looking for -so I googled his email address and name etc to find out it came up as a scammer who does same over many forums etc -so it was dropped suddenly. NOTE I sent a nearby but non related postcode to see if he would send more info or shipping costs etc, never did. When you google the given home address it comes up first with this - http://user.xmission.com/~daina/autoscamlist/sinfo_0000772.html

It seems he must live with loads of other scammers with different names etc in a flat- must be cosy- when I told him I live not too far away (lie) and I could call round in person to collect (lie) -never got reply about this - and when I pointed out he was a known scammer and con merchant that has a profile on interpol and the international crime fraud websites (another lie) he came back saying he didn't understand - then I told him as he contacted me through an official MOD website (lie) and the SAS and British intelligence were VERY interested in his IP and other internet data and that they would be in touch soon (lie) etc. so as I keep stringing him along and tying up his email by replying to me I hope it stops him trying to dupe someone else. So if in doubt chgeck them out- google and other engines great for highlighting the scammers -best keep to word of mouth or known contacts, repuitable firms or via protected sites that guarantee reimbursement etc - best of all cash on collection, then you can drop him if you don't like or get what is promised lol.

  5. My 43 GPW does same but as it is in desert garb I think it adds character to the colour and prefer my jeep well used and authentic looking instead of showroom, but then again that is me lol. Does the cross pipe position not let you move it slightly, be repositioning brackets etc, and away from tyre?

  6. We used to tell the newbies into the platoon that when we go parachuting or on exercise they need to wear these underwear items as issued or the were not insured hehe. Got them issued in 74 and still on my clothing list (kept pristine until I discharge and finally hand back my kit)

  7. I wonder if it is a demob medical where soldiers whose services no longer required (perhaps due to a wound etc) on re-entering civilan life is Assessed Fit for Work (AFW) similar to the leaving medical soldiers get nowadays before they leave service. Might be totally wrong but with it being marked completed made me think it was a last medical

  8. Yep Lymes Disease nasty and never leaves you just lies dormant in your body/blood. Got bitten on exercise in Kentucky and also called Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. We got issued cards to carry and inform doc/medics that we were exposed to it etc.

Waiting for it to resurface and more pain again, even after 20 years

  9. I have one of these side shelters (No 18) brand new/unissued but without the inner frame, so either looking for a frame to suit or to sell it on to someone who has. It is in that green vianide material and the windows are of similar material to the tilt on an austin champ. Nice shelter though. will need to get the FV number off it and post up.

  10. I remember trialling this stuff for about a year trying all different configurations and beasting it to destruction, there were 2 sizes of bergan 120l and 85l if I remember right, and at the end of the trial we recommeded it not to be issued as it was c*@p with too many plastic non soldierproof buckles and fiddly straps (that needed black nasty tape to secure them) etc.

Did they take any notice?? Eh No, and we ended up with it anyway, quickly followed by the DPM version we now have. Most Squaddies ended up buying their own stuff or adapting it with miltra or other items to make it more comfortable.

    Just my tuppence worth

  11. looking at your ladders they require the brackets fitted to mount 2 handrails onto as the type you have are obsolete and deemed hazardous - troops slipping on them when wet, nowhere to hold onto on descent etc, hard to see in dark when tactical etc etc.

also to mount onto the body, depending on what body it is there are different places they were mounted, some vertical on back, seen some horizontally mounted and also on front of box etc. I am sure someone on here will have the right reports and paperwork regarding same.

If I can find photos of same will post- funny enough I have a set of ladders complete with handrails sitting spare in a garage but it is 40 miles away at moment.
