  1. Hi Garry,

Liked the site, I'll see if we can find some on our Drive it Day run in Galloway for you.

    Cheers

    John

    Thanks John

There are 7,500 in Scotland alone so a load in your neck of woods. I will be putting up links to directories of sites and locations etc for people to access

  2. Hi Guys

Wondering what to do when on a run with your MV? Needing a theme for your club or group to follow? Or simply out on a Sunday drive why not visit some War Memorials, photo them and give a short review of location, type etc?

Welcome to the world of Memorial Bagging, why not run a treasure hunt round your locality and get others to participate ending up at a nice pub or highway inn. The idea is to raise public awareness to our wonderful, and often neglected, War Memorials and battle sites etc.

See http://memorialbagandtag.org/ for some inspiration - this site is developing but we are hoping to raise some awareness and have fun into the bargain. Our aim is to log as many as we can and share these locations and photos with others too!

    Enjoy

    RLC

have the same DZ flash and tac sign colours although this one shows the para formation symbol and there is an 82 sqn as part of 13 AA Sp Regt which would fit in with the other formation sign with the key which is the symbol for class II supply (clothing/tentage etc)

also the bottom of the unit sign (with the key) has the line Vee symbol denoting air assault etc

  4. I watched the classic film Tunes of Glory (Alec Guinness. John Mills etc) earlier today on the TV and in it there is a 'britified' jeep in a glossy green with lights on top of wings and Gordon Highlander and Scot Div TAC signs etc. I was wondering if it was still around and who owned/still owns it now etc. Filmed partly in Stirling castle and it appears all through film. I didn't get any Reg no but have video of same somewhere so will need to look at it and get more details.

  5. Ditto re the Tosh, Usual american rubbish on how they won the war and the western desert campaigns single handed with all the kit, pity they never found the sand paint as well nor researched uniforms etc. And the Sgt public schoolboy (ex OTC)charge of the HQ and all the other junior ranks were awfully polite and well spoken

Pity it took a second series to realise how innacurate it was, maybe they got lost on the way to Morroco/Algeria on Operation Torch

  6. This is more like the forward command post for a company which comprised of a couple of signallers and manpack radios (352/329 sets etc) used in tactical situation and when you are forward and away from any vehicles, 9x9s etc - e.g a TAC HQ. Our mortars used them for MFCs etc. Although pain to carry they were seldom seen or used, our guys used bashas than these

  7. I am still having problems with our Chevy 216 straight 6 Engine and suspect the block is leaking internally or cracked but cannot see anything. The engine overheated after a drive and it was showing symptoms of a head gasket blown etc. After taking head off the head was indeed blown between No 1 & 2 cylinder and water coming out of manifold ports and exhaust etc. Got head skimmed and checked etc, fitted new gasket.

Also what never helped was temp guage stuck at 70 degrees so not known how much a roasting it took or the driver never noticed until the white smoke of doom was seen.

Well we rebuilt and run engine to find no change so engine out and about to strip everything off block to get tested and skimmed if necessary but before this task, any suggestions welcomed. Either that or does anyone have a 216 block going cheap?

  8. Saturday 23rd June 2012 at the King's Park, Stirling.

The Scottish Transport Regiment are once more administrating the event and welcome military vehicles from groups or individuals, as in previous years. We will also be looking for any living history displays or similar groups interested in showcasing their groups in static displays.

The difference from previous years is that the vehicles will be part of the marching parade with a drive through Stirling before a circuit of the arena and onto the static display area. We are looking at possibly carrying veterans in some of the vehicles during the drive.

The ABF. the Soldiers Charity, will have a stand at the show and it is hoped that we will also place ABF cans amongst our exhibitors.

Details and location of the park is given below and please contact Major Gary Wallace (WDRG, MVT, MVPA and SMVG Member) on garyawallace@aol.com if you would like to attend. All of our regular displays most welcome again this year. Overnight camping available for members arriving on Friday evening.
