  1. It's a 3.8 litre turbo diesel renault engine that I have found to replace the flathead. However, having spent far too long looking at all the different vehicles available I am starting to wonder if finding a different vehicle which doesn't need much work might be a smarter option for my first mv. Especially as my mechanical knowledge needs some work!

Wha tRenault vehicle do you find that in?

  2. Hi paul, where does the mvt meet and when.thanks mal.

  3. Right chaps, my dad and I have given up and were back home.

I am going to try and be as fair and honest as I can be.

Traders=, the w+p facebook page have posted some positive comments from stall holders. A close friend of mine who is a trader spent 4 hours just getting through booking in and a further hour getting to his pitch. My dad and I walked the stalls yesterday and it was a nightmare. I spoke to about 6 long term stall holders who have been doing w+p for years and they were fuming, 1 was trying to organise agroup of stall holders to confront the w+p team to see whats going on.

Toilets=, up until this morning there were only 4 potraloos for the whole of the americas field!! And these were the type with no 'flap', so you could see into the bottom, which was disgusting, I kid you not, they are so bad I did number 2's in my tent! All the portaloo's I have seen on site are the same. When we left today, more toilets were ariving on americas field though.

My dad and I walked the whole site yesterday, and everywhere we went was a mudbath. Every roadway was a quagmire, with loads closed of. There are pools of standing water everywhere.

Today has been the best day for weather so far, hot and sunny, and the site is starting to dry out, but very very very slowly, if the site gets anymore rain, it will just become a mudbath again.

Whilst I was waiting in my landie for my dad to come out of the toilet by the showers, a lady who is a trader came over to me and was almost in tears, she needed a vehcile towed of site and had been to see some w+p officials for help, but they said they could not help her. I was happy to help her, however, the roadways in/out of the site are in chaos, so I could not even help her.

The entrance to the americas field has a mud pool of about 100 sq yards and is about 6-12 inches deep, we will need at least a week of hot weather for this to dry out.

People were still arriving as we were leaving, the queue to get into the site is a nightmare.

TBH, what w+p should do is let people get on site and set up, and then allow them to come back on foot and book in, but, they won't do that for fear of someone getting in free.

When you consider that it has been raining for 2 months, w+p should of had a plan in place to help sort out the problems, such as alumimium road ways and tons of gravel/woodchip.

I'm sure there will be some people who will say it's not as bad as i'm saying, but, I say this, w+p for me is my annual holiday, and it is with a heavy heart that I have left early, but I just could not face sitting in my tent not being able to do anything anymore.

I will post some pictures when ive un packed.

A friend of mine who is down there has just called me and basically clarified all of the above so i made my mind up to not bother going down, shame really!

  4. A small corner of the National Memorial Arboretum is now a permanent reminder of the Falkland Islands and the conflict that claimed the lives of 255 British servicemen.

Rocks taken from the islands' barren landscape have been placed around a simple curved stone wall. The memorial wall itself is modelled on the larger cemetery in San Carlos Bay, where troops landed 30 years ago.

There were some tears among the faces of the veterans and their families at the service. But there was also a sense of gratitude that they now had a memorial to the sacrifice and service.

Sara Jones - widow of Col H Jones, who was killed in the battle for Goose Green - says this is a memorial for everyone. Her husband is buried at San Carlos. Today she took her grandchildren to Staffordshire to a memorial much nearer to home

  5. Britain's determination to defend the Falkland Islands has been enshrined in a Government White Paper which declared there would be "no weakening" in Britain's resolve.

The paper, setting out a vision for the future of the UK's 14 overseas territories, was published days after Prime Minister David Cameron clashed with Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner over the Falklands when the pair came face to face at the G20 summit in Mexico.

Mr Cameron has rejected Ms Kirchner's demand for negotiations over the sovereignty of the islands, and last week told her that she should respect the result of a referendum next year, when the Falklanders will vote on whether they wish to retain their ties with Britain.

The White Paper, signed by Mr Cameron and Foreign Secretary William Hague, pledged: "We will continue to ensure that our sovereignty over the Territories is defended against all challenges so that, for those who live in the Territories as British citizens, their right of self-determination is protected.

"In the South Atlantic, British forces will maintain a defensive military posture to defend the Falklands and other British islands. There will be no weakening of the Government's resolve."

Mr Hague said the paper was designed to strengthen Britain's engagement with the Territories - which also include Anguilla; Bermuda; British Antarctic Territory; British Indian Ocean Territory; Cayman Islands; the sovereign base areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia in Cyprus; Gibraltar; Montserrat; the Pitcairn Islands; St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha; South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands; Turks and Caicos Islands; and the British Virgin Islands.

"Today's White Paper is the first review of the Overseas Territories since 1999 and it demonstrates the importance the coalition Government attaches to the Overseas Territories," Mr Hague said on Thursday.

"As well as having a responsibility to ensure the security and good governance of the Territories, we want the Territories to be vibrant, flourishing communities that proudly retain aspects of their British identity.

"We appreciate the remarkable diversity of the Territories, each with their own specific attributes, opportunities and challenges.

"This White Paper is designed to meet these challenges, to set out ways we can support the Territories and strengthen our engagement with them. It is another major milestone in our long and shared history, and I hope it will mark a new era of engagement between Britain and the Overseas Territories."

  6. Hi folks,

cracking little event, very friendly, a credit to Powys and Mid Wales MVT,charity for the weekend was SAMA (South Atlantic Medal Association) I belive the monies from the gate are to be donated to SAMA, a total of over £1000, a figure that the organisers in their wildest dreams wouldnt have believed possible.

Its a pity a fair few folks let them down, but what they lacked in numbers, they made up for in quality, the coup must be a Squirrel Helecoter from RAF Shawbury.

Anyway, enough waffle from me, the piccys.........

    Enjoy

    Mark

A big thankyou for all the comments, we tried our best for the show and to be honest even when over 60% of the vehicles booked in did'nt turn up the positive comments from all who attended have prompted us to put it on again next year!!, a big thankyou for all the exhibitors and traders who came along and the bonus of the whole show was the £1200 raised for the South Atlantic Medal Association!!!!

  7. Paul

May not be able to attend this weekend, at least with the jeep (something seems to be missing) might be able to sort by the end of the week fingers crossed. Hope the weather keeps fine. I'm sure there would be plenty of interest in starting War Wheels again.

    Regards

Oh dear seems as though your not going anywhere!, no worries fingers crossed you can get it back in in time,
