Thing to remember about Saracan is that it has a fluid flywheel which if I remember isn't to good in the towing field. I know we used to restrict towing to emergency recovery/towing only on our fluid flywheel vehs. That is why kinetic towropes are used, so the rope does the strain of the recovery not the veh.

I can only remember Stollys having a B47 fitted in the Regt. They only needed this as they normally were used as UBRE vehs and moved with SQMS package.

Went to the new Tesco in Bishop Auckland, they are currently accepting donations for troops to be sent out in Jan 11.They can be left at the store or you can donate complete boxes. Don't know if this is local or national. We intend to do 2 boxes to be sent out with them.

Older brother (Ex REME) works with somebody who worked on the conversion, he informs me that they were scrapped.

I got some new BCH, last year and within a month the soles and heels were af and my new CS95 shirts looked like wash rags after only 4 months, the thing to remember this kit was only worn 15-20 times for a couple of hours.

Having worn Army clothing for nearly 40 years I have found that the majority of kit has been designed and developed well, where it is let down is that it is produced by the lowest bidding company and standards drop during the production runs.

this pic shows a fitted C42, the rectangle on the top of the set is a side view of a B47. The C42 was the main set used to talk to Sqn Command, and the B47 used as the inter troop means. However at times the C42 was removed and replaced with a C13 set, the C13 was the main set we used in Cyprus, very good as it could be tuned into "The Voice of Peace" a pirate radio station in a ship of the coast, however the C13 deteriated at night due to the atmospherics. Alien please confirm.

You wouldn't find these used in a LR. Operators in LRs used Staff Users or HIBs. The date of 1984 is not right though. We were using the old style when we left BAOR to go to Cyprus in 84, and on my joining QOY in 86 the new ones wer in, so I assume that the change happened between 85-86??. This could be wrong though, I'll try and verify this info.

I can remember wearing the US issue green shirt, it was mainly used on excercise but wore under my coveralls in camp.

They definately look like the Cadet pattern Waterproofs.

During my visit to PD for my Unit NBC Insts course, these vehs were marked up and used as OPFOR vehs during the exercise phases.
