Alien, The LD's would have had the sabre in the Balkens due to sabre was part of the pool of CVR(T) availible to the troops in that theatre.Created due to the British Ministry of Defence's CVR(T) rationalisation programme, the Sabre is a hybrid vehicle. Created from the body of the Scorpion, and the turret of the Fox the Sabre is fitted with the standard 30mm Rarden Cannon found on similar British Army vehicles of the CVR(T) class. Modifications were made to the manually operated turret of the Fox to include redesigned smoke grenade launchers and the 7.62mm MachineGun was replaced with a more powerful 7.62mm Chain Gun. Domed hatches have also improved headroom for both commander and gunner. Some 136 Sabre vehicles are in service with the British Army, assigned to Reconnaisance Platoons of Armoured and Mechanised Infantry Battalions. Their duty is to covertly locate and observe enemy units and emplacements. In addition to this they are often required to take out such units, and are armed and equipped to work in the forward area of the battle. Although classified as a reconnaisance vehicle the Sabre can easily double as a light Tank for making hard hitting attacks against non-armoured enemy units.

As far as I know the TA used the Sabre was used as follows.
Yeomanry Recce Regts x 2 QOY and Royal Yeomanry
Some Armoured Infantry Recce Platoons and I know that the Saxon equipped inf reg at Catterick used them as well.
All regular RAC Recce Regts, Armoured Regts and some Inf Armoured Regts recce tps/Plts used Schimitar.

When I was a CMT in the Regs/TA we usedboth these and deeper ones to carry our equipment in. The shallow ones like the one shown had a moulded in insert and we used them to carry instruments in.

Fray Bentos, is actually the name of the port from which the stuff was originally shipped. SPAM I belive is from SPiced hAM. I am also reliably informed that the ingredients have to be kept in a locked room as the are classed as dangerous! :shake: (Never eaten it since) There do seem to be pull up corned beef cans apperaing. The Health and Saftey police probably. The can you are most likley to cut yourself on is a corned beef can. (Ever go round the supermarket as a kid, taking the keys off corned beef cans)
I was under the impression SPAM = Specially Prepared American Meat. As it was supplied as a supplement during WWII.

Don't forget, 120mm is includuing the Sabot, the penetrator holes can be much smaller, this depends on the angle of attack that the penetrator struck at.

covers weren't issued initially as the Barrel Trough was fitted with the solid part to the top. This was discovered to cause barrel distortion due to heat build up after firing, so the trough was reversed and a cover issued.

Certainly is a Scorpion one. there is athread somewhere that has a picture of a L43 on.

Sahagun
21 December, 1808
Leading
Sir John Moore's cavalry vanguard towards Burgos, Henry Paget (Lord Uxbridge) decided to deal with a French cavalry force based at Sahagun.Setting off with the 15th and 10th Hussars, Paget arrived near the town and split his force to catch the French as they withdrew.
He sent General Slade with the 10th to attack Sahagun, which sheltered some 600 dragoons, but the general moved too slowly and when the French discovered the attack column they moved to retreat.
As they left Sahagun the French noticed Paget's 15th, but mistook them for Spanish horsemen and moved on to the attack.
Instead of unsteady Spanish troopers opposing them, General Debelle's cavalry found themselves facing a charge by some 400 British hussars.
Within seconds the French front rank had caved in and the rear one was scattered, turning a formed battle into a bitter duel-like struggle between individual horsemen.
Debelle and half his men escaped, but left behind at least 120 men killed and more than 160 captured.
Paget lost two dead and a score injured.
Happy Sahagun day to all any Former 15/19 Hussars
