Just to comment on what Alien has posted above, when I was in the TA my CVRT driver was an Ex Fusilier who was involved with the infamous blue on blue in GW1, and the comment made about CVRT/BMP was heard mentioned then in that situation. Though of course it was Warrior involved at the time.

CEMO= Carrying Equipment, Marching Order in this case is Fighting Order plus large Pack

CEFO= Carrying Equipment, Fighting Order. more populary know as Skelly(Skeleton) Webbing. consisting of, belt,yoke,ammo pouch x 2, kidney pouches, carrier canteen, poncho roll. and resp bag.

This obviously refers in this case to 58 Pattern Webbing. The attached shows it as C =Complete, where in fact C = Carrying.

Warcop Ranges had a good amount of M47/M48 tanks delivered for Hards in the last 2-3 years. Saw them whilst on exercise.

Watching a re-run of Bloody Omaha with R Hammond the other day, I noticed that some bods had helmets that were marked like the ones in post #51 but without the badge and also with markings similar to the ones on helmets for the 506 PIR, but both were in a LCI.

Can somebody answer me this query, I always thought that due to the larger gun thus larger ammo in the Firefly compared to a normal Sherman the hull gunner was ommitted, yet the above pic shows the hull gun fitted.

Did the conversion omit the mounting for the hull gun or was the mounting left but not used.

Reading the previous re the PPE needed fo using IRR paint makes me wonder about any possible health probs to us old sweats that worked wirth the stuff wearing nowt but shorts and berets.

Thats what they look like, we had them on our CVRT and they were used to cover the road wheels and tracks.

Weather improving now, still cold and wet though.

As explained already they were mostly used to shAde shine and change the shape of the vehicle. They were also used to line cam nets esp on AFV's to prevent the net from snagging as they always did, whilst being put up.

The woven rolls are just nylon, I have seen them painted in a multitude of different patterns. They are no use as Thermal sheilds but painted with IRR paint had some but limited use.

Not wishing to sound petty and pedantic, a CVR(T) is not a Tank. It is exactly what it says on the tin, a Combat Vehicle, Reconnaissance (Tracked)
