  1. Adrian still has it but it was away for some work at a local workshop though.
  2. Hi, probably would be a bit big but what are Howard's contact details?
  3. Just got back from a fantastic week in Normandy where I stayed in arromanches. I can highly recommend Karen and Adrian Scott-cox's converted French farm house. It's a very friendly atmosphere, more like stopping with friends than in a hotel. Good food and lots of WWII books and memorabilia to look at. Address is no 2, Avenue Mountbatten, 14117 Arromanches. Tel 0033 231215263.
  4. Great to hear that someone can get over and work on these tanks, I will post some of the photos I took. As I said Charlie 1 is by far the worst which figures as its on the beach! The lighter metalwork on the upper surfaces is badly corroded as are a lot of the metal struts strengthening the metalwork of the track guards. The one on Hill 112 is in need of a fresh coat of paint. The one outside the museum at bayeaux had weeds growing out of the back end. Pretty shocking for one supposedly being looked after by a museum. There are also two others that need attention both Churchill/Centaurs, one at Pegasus bridge and the other nearby the Montgomery statue. These both just look shabby because of faded paintwork. It all begs the question about who is responsible for them, long term, and what funds are available for their preservation. Does the British government pay anything? They bloody should do!
  5. Hi folks, The Sywell Aviation Museum is looking for a cockpit section that could be used for people to sit in on a regular basis. It needs to be something like a Vampire, Hunter or something of that sort of size and doesn't have to be in particularly good nick. Anyone know of something like this that's up for grabs?
  6. Having just returned from a fantastic trip to the Normandy beaches I felt I must raise the issue of the state of some of the tanks used as memorials. It is very noticeable that anything American is well looked after, whereas the British tanks at best need a lick of paint and at worst are steadily rotting away! In particular the Churchill tank Charlie 1 which is an actual D Day tank is rusting badly! As is the one at Hill 112, What can be done? I,ve no idea who actually looks after them?
  7. Bonjour Kenny, welcome to HMVF, I will be over in Normandy in a weeks time and possibly near falaise, unfortunately not with my 3HW Triumph. But hoping to see lots of interesting WWII stuff! Andy
  8. Have you tried Peter Teichman at north Weald they have a Facebook page and a website. They have a spitfire, hurricane, mustang and a P40
  9. Welcome to the 3HW gang Ton. I think you will find a lot of info from the guys on this site. I certainly have. Have you posted any photos yet?
  10. Hi Matt, sounds like you did much the same as me. Bought my 3HW last year and have been steadily replacing the missing bits and learning a lot about em. The guys on this site have been a great help I must say . Anyway welcome to the 3HW gang! :-D
  11. Thanks Ron, I will give them a call and get the hacksaw out. Got my oil tank decal today so thanks for the contact. all the best. Andy
  12. What's going on chaps? One of the things that's missing off my bike is the clutch cable adjuster that fits on the top of the gearbox and threads through the casing. So where an I get one from? Also something strange is that most of the pictures I've seen show that the casings are slotted above the adjuster. Mine isn't! So I'm wondering if that's normal or if its been welded up??
  13. Thanks Ron, ordered up from classic transfers.
  14. Hi folks, what are the approx dimensions and colour (I'm colour blind) of the oil level decal? Seen a few photos and want to get one made for my bike. Any particular place recommended to get it from?
  15. Thanks Wally, can you get hold of the data book these days? If so at what price?
  16. Hello folks happy Easter! can anyone confirm or otherwise if the HP of the 350cc engine in the 3HW is 17hp. I'm sure that's what I saw somewhere but can't find it again. Someone challenged the figure at an event yesterday.
  17. Always nice to have another 3HW owner join us, I've had mine just over a year now and this site has been a great help. Welcome to the club!
  18. The Sywell Aviation Museum is having its 2013 Grand Opening on Saturday 30th march starting at 10.30. There will be a mustang fly past, military vehicles and re-enactors etc and its all free. Do come along.
  19. This maybe a long shot, but what the hell, you guys have answered all I've asked so far!! It's not specifically to do with a military bike but does involve an inter war triumph. My grandfather who spent most of his adult life working for triumph is supposed to have an unofficial record for a motorbike long jump. Apparently this was done, in the 20's or 30's, off a hump back bridge at Fenny Compton Wharf out side The Wharf pub and along the old Banbury to Southam road. There was a photograph hanging in the pub for years that I would dearly love to get a copy of. Enquiries haven't turned up anything yet, so does anyone know about this type of event or where I might get more info? Andy
  20. Thanks Ron, that gives me some idea! had been thinking of a trip to the local weigh bridge!!!
  21. Hi chaps, anyone know the weight of a 3HW?
  22. Has anyone got photos of the bracket that's screwed to the tank that the knee pads fit over? Like Rons bike mine is one that probably didn't have em fitted but I would be interested to see how it was done so its an option to fit them later. Andy
  23. Just to let everyone know that the talk planned for tomorrow evening (21st Jan) at The Aviator, Sywell has been cancelled to to the bad weather. Keep an eye on the Sywell Aviation Museum website and Facebook pages for further details.
  24. Ahhh! Longing for those summer days. Perhaps with the current weather I should try and get some tracks fitted like the one parked next to me waddyafink?
  25. Sorry for being a bit thick!! Trigger type lever? Any photos please. As I said the drawing in my book looks as though whatever lever is fitted is built into the same assembly as the clutch lever but obviously with its own cable etc.
