  1. Further to the thread posted about the forthcoming low emission zone in London, for heavy commercials do you realise that by 2010 ANY Diesel powered commercial vehicle over 1.2 tons weight, ie. just about any van/ pickup privately owned or business use, which includes diesel Land Rovers manufactured after 1972 and before 2002 will have to comply with Euro 111 emission standards as per 2002 onwards, if you wish to drive at ANYTIME within the M25 area or pay an extortionate daily charge. Your vehicle will have to be modified with an approved particle filter or converter, some older engines will not meet the requirment.

    More info at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/lezlondon

  2. They had the ser111 Landrover V8 109" front end, same engine and gearbox as early classic Range rover and 101" L/Rover, permanent 4wd g/box which drove tracks and front axle with lockable centre diff. Were only prototype, never went into serious production

  3. Take note about the warning listed on here of the impending low emission zone that effects ALL diesel engined trucks made after 1972, sure a lot of these Kraz and Reo trucks will fall into this category, you won't be able to drive within M25 without paying £200 per day !!

    Petrol ones are exempt..

  4. Took my '42 Willys to Beltring for the experts at the Desert raiders assoc. to take a look at the numerous welded up holes in the scuttle where obvious gun and armour mounts were, also reinforcing plate under bonnet for spare wheel mount They confirmed its undoubtably been a Normandy/Europe SAS one....rare !!

Next edition of CMV mag features an article about SAS/Airbourne Jeeps

  5. Nice one Mark, start checking out all your local breakdown/recovery garages for a source of free fuel?..they usually end up with lots that have been drained out of vehicles that have been filled with wrong fuel, diesel/petrol mix, the multifuel 432 will be fine on it :-)

  6. I remember many years ago when living at Camberley Surrey the fighting vehicle research est. used to run steel track tanks on the road between test tracks but they did so much damage to kerbs and tear up tarmac especially at junctions they were then forced to transport them

  7. They were Canadian, think they were Mk 1's

Must get a slide scanner as got hundreds of slides to copy, keep seeing vehicles at rallies I remember from years ago, some I've even owned or knew its previous owners !

  8. Superb restoration,...It was good to see so many carriers at Beltring, reminds me to dig out the colour slide I took in the late 1960's early 70's of a "Brand new" universal carrier being lifted out of its crate, a commercial truck dealer in Hampshire then had a mountain of ww2 crated ones in his yard!!

  9. Have you tried running it for a while on a separate fresh fuel supply, other than the fuel tank, any diesel fuel in it?? .....jerrycan of petrol and bit of pipe connected into the pump while acertain if its fuel contamintion

  10. There isn't a problem with "light" vehicles under 7.5 tons gross weight including loaded trailer,I tow my Jeep behind the Dodge, which is MOT'd and thats ok, its when you get into larger ie, over 7.5ton gross HGV stuff, the exemption from test and hgv licence only applies to pre '60 vehicles used privatley and unladen and can tow an unladen trailer.....mmmm spose you could always get a drawbar signals trailer converted into a caravan, which is ok to tow behind your exempt truck and load a vehicle inside it....

keep the curtains drawn though when travellng :-D

  11. Towing a loaded trailer then removes the vehicle from the Historic exemption category, you will need the right category HGV licence and the towing vehicle would have to be tested unless its a recovery vehicle with lifting device, ie a crane, and then suitable insurance.....

  12. There was a note in MVT's Windscreen mag recently pointing out that many Dodge / Bedford / Morris 15cwt trucks are being operated illegally on MOT exemtion certificate, Adrian is correct the vehicle has to exceed 3500kgs laden to be exempt.

You need to find a test station that does class 7 mot's. Just MOT'd my Dodge again this week
