Great to see the Atlantic wall in 3D, ..I was there last year, its well hidden in the trees so not very easy to find, its on an MOD training ground but is open to the public, the huge concrete replica of a section of the Normandy Atlantic Wall was built by Canadian engineers in 1943 on Hankley common, Surrey to experiment what type of explosive charges were needed to breach the wall. Hankley Common was a top secret training area during ww2, also used to test a lot of Percy Hobarts "funnies"

. If ANYONE reading this knows the whereabouts of WSV 794 64 YY 69 which originally had the insignia of the all seeing eye of the Guards Armoured Division and had at one time been prepared (if not sent) to Palestine please contact me on 01626 852512 as I opwned it and would like to trace it -
DVLA search Leyland WSV 794 shows the last road taxed expired in 2004, also the last V5 issued was also in 2004 (change of owner?} maybe its in a museum or its gone abroad

the passenger seat and back seat may be Hotchkiss, the kick plate on the back of the drivers seat has been modified, not original
-
the only information one can get from the original bonnet/hood number is to clarify the production build date, the date of delivery, which is stamped on the dash locker lid plates if your jeep still has the original plates, there are no surviving military records of the history where the jeep served that could be ascertained from the hood number,..bare in mind so many jeeps were completly overhauled, rebuilt from overhauled parts, sometimes several times, whilst in service, so the bonnet may not be the original one

Its 1971 so since the mot exemption changes it needs test now,

1943? which part? Looks to be mostly Hotchkiss, its 24v too, even registered as 1958 with an ITM chassis number, it may be on a ww2 chassis

Have a read about the errors in the film about the great train robbery, I seem to remember the RL was an ex AFS vehicle which would not have been released at the time.
The Train robbers used an Austin Loadstar, not a Bedford RL, and they had Ser.1 & 2 Landrovers,

no clutch brake , just good old crash gearbox, ..GMC's have a nice gearbox to use compared to some others of the period, just practise take gear changes slow to start with

The new Slovakian "Defender 90" made its debut this w/e at the Goodwood revival, its actually over 100" wb,...Looking at it alas its just another SUV posemobile, its more of a "Pretender", ..Its Not a Defender replacment vehicle for work use, Price wise it starts at about £40k almost Twice the Price of a 4x4 Ford Ranger/Mitsubiski pick up ! ...the body style is much like a swb Toyota RAV 4, or an overgrown new Mini Clubman, the 90 has 3 doors it can squeeze in 6 persons, be a bit cosy together for 6 adults..and that then leaves only enough room at the back for the Harrods picnic hamper too, No luggage space with back seats in use,..Lots of posh trim and plastic interior, for more room there is the 110, 5 door version, all round independent suspension, the Defender range is ONLY Available as an Automatic Transmission, there Is No Manual gearbox option ! and it is full of electronics, ..35 ECU's to go wrong, even the foldaway towbar is electrically operated, ...and you Cannot take the roof off this Alluminium monocoque bodyshell either or drill holes in it to fit a NATO hitch

, so would it have displayed an ordinary tax disc, (which I have) or would the W.D. have something of their own at that time?
No, vehicles with a Military registration number Post War did not have road tax discs

If the bike was sold in 1947 and then Civilian registered it would have been issued with a road tax disc,

Yes, there was a post on here some years back about an original Petrol engined Matador someone had just aquired. A batch of petrol engined matadors were apparently built as a special order for the Military for the proposed invasion of Norway as it thought they would be better coping with the sub zero weather and problems of diesel fuel freezing. The invasion never happened.nearly all the petrol ones would probably been converted to diesel after the war
