  2. Belongs to a local lad, normally comes to Astle and Cheshire show
  3. Well I found a work around for the Meadows petrol... its the same as Bernards! Rip it out and fit a cummins! but Private Benjamin has been to a few shows this year, so thats progress. Next stop, propshaft conversion and fix the leaky fuel tank!
  4. ****! he was very lucky to 'only' have those injuries looking at the damage closer up!
  5. potentially life-changing injuries... hopefully he pulls through ok and recovers without lasting damage. And hopefully gets the opportunity to rebuild his pride and joy.
  6. Heres some more of them moving pictures for you gents [video=youtube;7yqR02wC-88]
  7. its a 1966 954 Super 6 (no strengthening bars above the axle) thanks for the compliments guys i think the mushroom style is a good suggestion, saw some with a solar powered extractor fans in which would be ideal for show accomidation thats parked in a field 6 months of the year doing nowt lol
  8. thanks for the reply John i will try to dig out the advert. What do the rear brakes need to work? The front has been "converted" to an over-run hydraulic system which currently doesnt work but i wouldnt mind retaining it for use behind the tractors then having the air back axle for behind the wagons. I will try and strip the rear right down and check the bearing out. thanks for your help
  9. Never mind Nikki i would too! thats nice! Whats the tonnage hes pulling there??
  10. Hello Gents (and Ladies), Ive got a Rubery Owen 2ton stores trailer thats been converted to be a living van. Ive had it for a few years now and its served me well travelling all over the country behind the tractors but its now about to go behind wagons and im getting fed up of being dripped on in my sleep so ive got some questions for the more knowledgable amoungst us. Firstly id like details on the factory braking system so i can reinstate the air brake system. Any workshop manuals, pictures etc welcome! Secondly wheel bearings etc, ive got a wheel with a slight wobble on the rear right so would like to replace the bearing. Where can i get them and any info on how to change them greatly appreciated! Finally the sodding roof vents... theyve rusted on the inside allowing them to drip so i would either like to replace like for like or upgrade to better ones with more ventilation. Any suggestions or thoughts? Heres some pics so you know what it looks like:
  11. Brilliant Bernard! with that info i should be able to Map it up nicely! 20degress Timing advance and the firing order of: 1, 5, 3, 6, 4, 2. that youve just given me should help me set it up sweetly! also the soft and hard rev limiters will be handy!
  12. thanks bud will look over them soon. Question for the Meadows fans: Im going to have a gamble and experiment on bringing the Meadows into the 21st century with ECU controlled electronic ignition (water proof ) *oooo* *ahhhh* this involves writing my own ignition Map (or modifying Triumph 2l 6cyl Map to suit) For this i will need the ignition advance required over a certain rpm increase also the advance over vacuum. anybody got any thoughts or ideas on this?
  13. Brilliant thanks John! i took it 1/4mile up my drive last night (with the intention of goin 2 miles up the road and back) and it cut out... so whilst my cousin went to get the tractor i managed to coax the life into her (ive decided the engine is definately female even if the truck is male) so i reversed the 1/4 without a banksman to get it back to where i started from and the steering seems to be getting better... might just want some use to be honest, but will check the oil now youve mentioned it.
  14. heres the full up to date album of the conversion to cure your off-topic curiosities
  15. DAF45 ZF S5-42 with a LandRover LT77 shifter grafted onto the top!
  16. spot on andy tar! steering seemed better today for some reason haha done about half a mile in it tonight... 1/4mile up the drive, then it cut out... so had to coax it back to life then when i got it revving i kept it running and backed down the drive to where its parked... an interesting experience on a twisty farm drive and no banksman (hed gone to get the tractor). This meadows is definately a tempramental old girl
  17. definately Bernard, theres some guys designing compression release for a 6BT so hope they make it available soon! www.youtube.com/user/nrs91 is my channel (when Scammel works i will get GoPro footage!) My ride in Nikki Owens L10 Scammell for those interested in Cummins Powered Land Rover Sillyness

  19. 'Private Benjamin' leaving his old home. Tight squeeze! Time to leave! En-Route! 'Private Benjamin' arrived safely at his new home! Who's a big boy then!
  20. Ill spark this back up with a little bit of an intro and a newbie cry for help Im already known to a few on here but im Nick (or Calamity Steggel to Crowther and co) Im the new owner of the Scammell Explorer "Private Benjamin" (250 XUB). Couple of quick Qs (after already mithering Bernard to death via FB): Any pointers on how to adjust the Scammell brakes up? they seem to have much more travel in the pedal than lucky Owens. The Air assist steering seems notchy, like a land rover PAS low on fluid, is this how they are or is it a sticky valve etc? after Ive had a good go at setting the carbs up and had a drive of the beast (of more than 200yrds) ill no doubt come back with more Qs. This thread has been a good read in my spare time over the past few days. Plenty to think on. :-D
