Welcome in, lots to learn on here. Fishing with a Bren ,hey that sound fun!:cheesy:

  2. Thanks everyone for the comments all very helpful. We started her up last weekend and moved it round the yard, its a big lump to push round two 90 deg corners that are only 60ft apart, didn't dare driver her yet as on starting she took off across the yard with no one in it! something must have moved in transit as it wasn't in drive last time we started it, anyway after the heart rate had stabilized and the laughter had stopped, it rolled nicely pushed by my Muir Hill, the engine was running only to get steering.

That is a big bugger, didn't realise it as its only 10 ton but its still a big un.

  3. Your luck. Horror stories on todays news about the delivery of these. Brocken, thrown over walls. Apparently the courier company is 'Very Sorry'!

They rang twice to make an appointment for delivery as its all signed for so I am surprised by that. I was very impressed with the whole service, I hope everyone that bought them gets them delivered as well.

Looking for a nice WW1 shell to display it in now.

  4. Steve,

    Here is the link to the Ebay advert;

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321592740569?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D321592740569%26_rdc%3D1

These vehicles were supplied to the Army with the Perkins Eagle 350, which was an improved design of the Rolls Royce Eagle, Perkins having taken the RR Diesel business over.

    regards, Richard

Thanks for that Richard, looks like the civvy version then, although still a great truck no doubt.

  5. Hi All

There is a rather nice Scammell S26 on ebay (Item no.321592740569 )

This has a Rolls Royce Engine in and I thought the Military contract had a Cummins engine?

My question is, am I right and is this a civvy one or did the Military use both?

    thanks for any help.

    Steve

  6. I know this place well - we live not far off and go to the samphire beds on the marshes here in summer. It is not somewhere I would imagine many people wanting to live. This is a bleak and lonely spot down a remote, bumpy track 800 yards from the nearest neighbour, another mile from the next one and another to the nearest shop. It's isolated and vulnerable, and you'd want a guard dog and a shotgun to feel at all secure. The "views" are mudflats one way and featureless fields the other, and it's bitter in winter. I hope no-one buys this place sight unseen hoping for a rural idyll, as they'll be in for a rude awakening. It would suit a fanatical birdwatcher and that's about it.

Yup, sounds like a great reason for living there!:-)

  7. Spotted a Low loader on the A1065 between Swaffham and Fakenham this afternoon with what a first I thought was a Matador but on second thoughts I think it was a Scammell Pioneer? Maybe someone else got a better look or knows about it.

  8. WHEN l worked on champs l was told by mentor when a champ came in with a reported fault with the gearbox which appeared when in fifth and disappeared when the clutch was depressed on over run his words of wisdom were before removing the gearbox drain the oil out of the rear axle and check to see if it is silver in colour and contains swarf l said the noise is in the gearbox he then explained that when there was wear in the crown wheel and pinion noise travels up the prop shaft and appears to come from the gear box in this case he was right

I would agree with this too Wally, having had an axle on a Champ go bang and drop all it oil out of the crack!:-D
