In my opinion all of the vehicles I have sprayed in BS 224 have been the colour on the right, but....... after 1 to 2 months they have darkened to the colour we have come to expect.
I am never happy with the result at first. But I try to leave it to darken before I worry too much.

They thought Steam was a finished source of power once, now you can spend a quarter of a million on an old one, plus there seems to be plenty of people to run and maintain them.........the old skills are getting passed down.
It wouldn't be so easy to build a new Flying Scotsman or a Ploughing engine but it still could be done at a cost.

As we were coming out of Ipswich tonight , a low loader with a Humber Pig on board came off the A14 and went onto the A 12 . Wondered if they were heading for Beltring ? The Pig was 23BK72
Funny, I saw that too, it looked very clean and mavbe freshly sprayed.

If you can just pop it round the back that will be fine thanks Rob. If you see Stuart the farmer who owns the site let him know its there, he likes to keep in touch with what's going on! :-)
Haven't had a chance to try the valve yet - next thing on the to-do list after making sure the silencer works.
After that its a case of some interior cab work including letting a bug bomb go for a couple of hours as I am sick of having to clear a forest of webs before I can get in and work every week
Spiders are not keen on citrus, leave some lemons in there!

No they are just the coloured palm connections, I will try to get a picture, going in the shed after dinner.

I have a load of new Palm couplings here if you need any.

Hi all, I live in Essex, my name is Mark and I am 52. I have no military back ground, however a lot of staff I have had the pleasure to work with, have been and what a great group they have been.
I have been the proud owner of a Scammell Explorer for 9 years. Over the years we have been to the local shows towing a caravan, road runs and a little bit of off roading.
Sadly the Scammell has taken a back seat in our rally scene, however, things are to change, as I am giving the old boy a good clean and repaint to take him out next year to the local rallies for a change.
I am as happy in the workshop restoring things as driving them, and in the very near future I hope to start a thread on the restoration as it progresses, and although I am a month into the restoration, I am sure I have a few photo's of the progress, just got to work out how the photo's are put on here.
Oh, and what job did I have, the clues in my call sign.
The Governor.
Welcome in and with your Job you may know a few on here already!

Neil,
I am afraid I am no expert on the Chieftain, but young Eli could tell you more, watch this;
Love his comments on the L60, reckon his father was a crewman.
Never seen that before but it was bloomin brilliant !

No photos I'm afraid... but I wonder who's DUKW I saw on the back of a low loader driving past Woodbridge, Suffolk this morning at about 07:45?? I know of at least one in the locality, but wondered if this was someone's here.
Funny, I saw a Springer driving to the Camsea Ashe auction site on the same road this morning. Missed the DUKW though

I will be coming up from Cambs to Cumbria with an empty truck (beavertail, winch, long loadbed, 14t payload) the weekend 28/29 Apr.
Might be of use/interest to someone.

Just as much of interest is what you are delivering to Cambs. as well ! Anything I might see on the roads about here?

Hi All, I have a 4 ton Drott plus a few spares needing transporting from Coniston, Lake District to Harrogate, N. Yorks.
Strictly speaking its not green...yet but thought to put it on here incase anybody might be able to help. Its starts and drives, but only on one side so a winch would be a big help.
Not in any great rush.
Thanks
Jim.
I always thought they weighed nearer 7 ton, is it a small one?

40448a
MGA car? must be RAF then!
-
is this a screened distributor? The part number 40448 comes up as a dizzy for a mga car
40448a

I think there is an error in the model, are you sure the first letter is U ? I think it should be D. This is not a Dingo distributor, but have a feeling it is for a 1950's Commer, but cannot confirm as yet.
Thanks Richard, yes it could well be a D as it has been stamped on a slight angle also the type could start with a B for the same reason. Thanks

Hi, I just opened a box in the workshop that held a new dizzy, but can't be sure what vehicle it's for.
Its a six cylinder and the numbers on the body are
Model UBCH6A 40448A
TYPE DS35 256
Can anyone shed any light on what vehicle its for, was hoping for one for my Dingo but now not so sure.
I will be grateful for any answers. Thanks

Another once common item which seems hard or impossible to find. The MWR has lockers which are closed and locked by padlock hasps and staples made from steel rod, rather than pressed steel. The staples especially are made from u-shaped rod attached to a fixing plate, rather than from stamped flat plate which now seems common.
I assumed it would be possible to just go to a d-i-y shed or on-line site to find some suitable replacement items but that seems a non-starter. I've also tried old style hardware shops in the hope that they might have some old stock somewhere but again no luck. Nothing seems either to be the right size or of the right construction.
I'm beginning to wonder whether it is now time to start searching in Architectural salvage yards, but before I do that, does anyone know a source for these old style hasps and staples.
Thanks
Keep an eye open for some ammo boxes, I have a Bren Mag Wooden box with 2 of these on,(it held the mags in their metal boxes) whilst its not up for sale they are a good alternative source.
