  1. Looks like a big job good luck and keep me posted on how its going

    Shane.

    Hi Shane,

it certainly is going to be a big job. I wont be starting it for some time though, I need to finish the Chevy restoration, then the jeep, but in the meantime I will continue to hunt for bits and info on the Napier.

    Cheers :-D

  2. I had a worm shaft made by Turner Gears of Wolverhampton; it cost GBP750. I considered doing most of the machining myself and just leaving the hobbing to the gear cutters but there was not much of a cost saving. Some of my friends helped were very generous and helped towards the cost for my 30th Birthday!

The worm wheel I have used was from a slightly different back axle (but the same hub design and centre distance) so I had to mix the worm thread from one design with the bearing drive mechanism and bearing assembly from another. I had to take dimensions from the axle case to verify the centre distance and then worked the thread data back from there.

There is of mistakes in this image (I must upload the proper one).

Here is the worm shaft as we are about to put the casings together.

Let me know if I can be of any help!

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

sorry for the late reply. That worm shaft is a very nice piece of work! In my head I had a figure up to a thousand pounds to get a new one machined for mine, so thats about right. I havent had a chance to open up the diff to check condition of the rest of it, not sure what horrors I will discover when I do! Thanks for posting those bits :-D

  3. Ben H who is a regular contributor to this forum has had some experience of this and may be able to guide you in the right direction in the way that he coped with it and give you details of the company that he dealt with.......... And possibly some idea of the costs, too!

However did you hear of this chassis, by the way? Sounds as if there might be more of a story there!

    Tony

nptimber on this forum was a big help with tracking down the second chassis, as well as Tim (who has been a huge source of help throughout).

I am starting to think that the model I have, which I believe to be the B62 is a lot scarcer than I realised. I have made contact with a few Napier lorry owners worldwide, but I've yet to hear of another B62, other than a very stripped chassis in Oz. It may be that when mine is done it will be the only restored example. Happy to be corrected on this though!

Thanks for the Ben H recommendation, I will make contact with him.

  4. Time for an update!

Have been chasing a second 30 cwt chassis; after a little 'Google Earth detective work' I managed to track it's location down, made contact with the owner, a deal was done, and a couple of weeks ago she was brought home.

Springs are shot, but wheels are good, chassis is good, and most important of all, I now have a differential!

    :yay:

  5. Hi Mike,

Not tasted them yet, I did buy them for lunch tomorrow when G506 and crew come round but might have to taste them tonight.

Love the link tho! They look lush!!!!! :)

    Hi Rosie,

they were yummy! And thanks for lunch

    xx

  6. Hi Malc,

yes, pretty sure I have a photo of mine here .

Give me an hour or so and will go digging and upload it :)

    Sorry Malcolm,

my day was mental! But here is my floor section, not a great photo but it does give you some idea. Gives you a rough idea of the kind of condition my truck was in when I started! I have other pics if there some detail in particular you need.

Bear in mind there are quite a few different floor panels, the difference being the slots on the driver's side for levers to come through. The number (and position ) of slots is dependant on the model; Cargo less winch - no slot, cargo with winch - one winch, tipper less winch (as I have) two slots, tipper with winch - three slots, etc, etc.

Hope this helps, apologies if you already knew all this :-)

  7. Fire wall back in ! it was in a lot of pieces but gradually I stuck it back together, cleaned up the steering wheel and painted all the inside of the cab Just have to make a floor pan as its missing, if anyone has a photo of one then that would help...

    Hi Malc,

  8. Does this prove that PIGEONS - not Pidgeons - are not colour blind?

    Tony

Quite possibly Tony, but I wonder how many were lost to shelling? I'm sure black and white painted pigeon lofts made a superb target for the enemy! :nut:

  9. I've dealt with Dirk a few times now, I'm not sure if you know but this isn't his main business, the main business keeps him very busy. Try the phone, and be prepared to keep trying. The wait will be worthwhile as his parts are good quality, his prices fair, plus hes a really good guy who wont stitch you up.

  10. So, a few more photos showing a little more of the detail of the chassis;

Rear off side forward shackle pin and brake linkages. Some old paintwork on the rear axle visible, looks more grey in daylight than blue as in this photo. Traces of drab green elsewhere

Front near side chassis view, I think the alloy plate with a bolt through it could be the radiator mounting?

A very empty space in the rear axle = No differential.
