  1. Hi G506, nice to see another 1 1/2 ton Chev owner. Would be nice to see some pics of the restoration, sounds like a real job. And i thought mine was bad :-)

    Hi Pop,

I will try to add some photos in the next few weeks. Major restorations are one thing, but fairly simple operations on a computer, now thats scary........

Ive seen your restoration pics, looks like you're doing a great job!!! :-)

Ive set myself a target of 'Oddball' the Chevy being finished May 2009. But then, I always was an optimist!

Hi David, thanks for the welcome!

What a question, who has the best beer stamina, post war or WW2 owners?

We could always all get together in the beer tent at Beltring and find out...............

    Disclaimer -

Now pass me the Jack Daniels, I need to get practising..........

  3. thats one of the reasons I go to MV shows, r cubed promises me copious amounts of wine (ask R. Notton as I was spotted drinking wine by the pint at Overlord :-D)

    :-o You, drinking? Surely not

I think we should have a Ladies area when at shows with wine, wine, JD, wine, brandy, wine, chocolate and wine!

I think you may have hit on something there Rose, Mrs G506 will certainly like your plan...............

    :-D

  4. Hi everyone,

a few weeks ago, Mrs G506, myself and the Landy ventured across the Irish sea to attend the Curragh MV show, held at Curragh Racecourse, near Dublin. I can thoroughly recommend this event, apart from some very unusual and rare exhibits, we could'nt believe the enthusiasm everyone in the Military Vehicle Club of Ireland has, and the warm welcome we recieved, we certainly hope to go again! And of course, there's the Guinness........

The only down side was it was no fun on the Welsh section of the M4, sat at 55mph in the slow lane with HGVs trying to climb in through the tail gate! :schocked:

  5. Have you ridden the Triumph recently?

Also, hate to tell you that it has rained recently in the UK, so the remains of your Landy will probably need to swept out of the garage!!! on the up side scrap value has increased.........hehehehehehe :-D

    See ya soon.

    :-o Ouch, so hurtful....................

Hi Baz, hope youve finally put the French markings back on that Hotchkiss...........sorry, I mean early ww2 Jeep

    ;-)

You wont be seeing me for a while, stuck offshore for 3 weeks now!!!!!!!!!!

Im hoping to arrive at Beltring the Sunday before (and then leaving the following Fri) if you fancy a beer or seven

  6. Thanks for the welcome chaps  Jaffa cakes yum yum Trying to convince the girlfriend it's a good idea to go to War and Peace in the MJ, 600 mile round trip though and she don't do camping. If we get there I'll bring tea and Jaffas

    Hi Andy, like the Bedford!

Mrs G506 sometimes needs persuading when it comes to long road trips or long shows (more than 3 days), all i do is promise that on arrival i will stick a glass of wine in her hand, and that throughout the event wine (or Jack Daniels) will be plentiful. Its a pretty good arrangement! :-D

  7. Mrs G506 something you told me?!!!:-o :-D :-)

No Rose, nothing to own up to, I havent asked Mrs G506 to marry me, its just easier typing that than 'G506's long suffering girlfriend' !!

    he he he he

  8. The dancing girls ate all the biscuits. Welcome aboard. Jack will show you the duty rosta at some point. If you bung him a bottle of single malt, and i don't mean Sarsons, he'll take you off the big cleaning list. The clubhouse is open all day, every day....ever since we lost the keys.

    Hi Snapper,

keep hearing a lot about about dancing girls..........

    thanks for the welcome!

  11.

    Mornin' G506 ;-)

Anyway nice to see you on here (at last!) Catch up soon XXXXXX

    Mornin Rose :-D

I think the record is still the one you, me and R cubed set in 2004, 6 people, big tent, and enough clothes, food, chairs, etc to last 10 days in a Landy LWB which was bulging at the seams!

    Great to be here!!!

  12.

Welcome G506, do you have any pictures of the '42 chevy? Sounds like a major project!

Thanks Joris, good to be here!

I will try to post some pics soon, it's certainly a major project, one of the first jobs was to remove an entire 30'' section of rotten chassis from the driver's side and replace with new, and 24'' from the passenger side! Since then the chassis been totally stripped and blasted, and now in Olive Drab. Currently Im doing axles, front nearly finished, just started the rear.

  13. Hi everyone, thought I had better introduce myself!

R cubed and Bodger Baz have been telling me to sign up, so here I am!

What can I tell you, well, it all started on a ''weekend break'' my mum and dad had in the New Forest in the autumn of 1968..........ah, no, sorry, thats going back a bit too far........ok, it all started in the early eighties, when as a schoolboy I made the realisation that Airfix kits of MVs were ok, but the real thing was so much better!

I left school at 16, and straight away started looking for a project with my very meagre funds. One of the first vehicles I looked at was a WW2 1 1/2 ton Chevrolet M6 Bomb crane, but it was too major a project for a very nervous 16 yr old, so instead I settled for an M38A1, which I restored, making lots of mistakes, but learnt lots in the process.

Numerous MVs followed, Morris MRA1, Landy 2a SWB, BSA B40, Can Am, Triumph TRW, in varying states of dis-repair, all of which came and went, but in the mid nineties I bought a '61 Land Rover 2a LWB, and a '41 Triumph 5SW, both of which I still own, and love 'em both dearly! But I still really fancied a Chev......

Last summer, I stumbled across a '42 Chev 1 1/2 ton tipper, in a hell of a state, only just rescueable, but I just couldnt bear the thought of it being cut up. So, 'Oddball', as she is already known (obviously after Donald Sutherland's character in Kelly's Heroes), is coming along nicely, and doing a very good job of extracting any spare cash I have, even better than my daughter!

I should have stuck to Airfix kits, much cheaper and no rust issues.............

  14. Morning everyone, my first post on HMVF!

    Hi R3,

I cant remember, but is the CCKW fitted with throttle cable or rods/linkages? The reason I ask is very occasionally Ive seen engines (fitted with throttle control rods) unable to achieve higher revs due to a combination of worn engine mountings and incorrect rod adjustment, as the engine's inertia causes it to tilt to one side it travels too far, effectively preventing the full travel of the throttle mechanism. I doubt this is your problem, but may just be worth a quick check.

    Cheers
