  1. Thanks guys! Yes it is really, amazing how after 50-odd years in careful storage, so many have deteriorated so quickly since they were cast in 2005. Many fell apart whilst they were at Withams awaiting new owners. Key is keeping them undercover I guess, hence why mine's in a dutch barn at a caravan storage place. Not cheap but in the long run.... A few gremlins still to sort but that's mainly through lack of use! As you look around the small ads and eBay etc, you do see some grim examples. Mine was just mucky but my hunch was it was a good vehicle underneath. The previous owner seemed really genuine which was a good sign, he'd priced up the value of the registration but hadn't sold it because it was part of the history etc so whilst not an out and out enthusiast, he had a context. He just didn't have the time to spend and wanted her to go to a good home with some TLC. There's more info and history on http://pgw326.blogspot.com/ Cheers, Duncan.
  2. I hope that he paid for his carelessness with his life. Looks really good, so I hope the set-back isn't too bad... Just bought a GG so going down the road of a light resto as mine's in decent condition having been stored undercover, which is good. Just put up a post in the emergency services section with pics: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?27424-PGW-326-Bedford-Green-Goddess There's a link to my blog on there too. How easy are the front wings to take off? The nose of mine has faded a touch which isn't a drama, of more worry is that there is a really small amount of rust along the seams along the top of the wings. I'd rather treat it now before it's big bubbles, holes, new wings..... Cheers, Duncan.
  3. I think I did post a couple of early pics on my introductory post, however, now I have brought PGW 326 over here and had chance to take stock, I can pop some more pics up! For more details - I do have a blog which you're welcome to have a look at to see how things do (or don't) progress; feel free to make any suggestions! http://pgw326.blogspot.com/ Following a quick wash, the run across from the prvious owner was both fun and uneventful - getting to know how it all worked etc. A steady 40 mph seemed decent (considering she's done only about 30 miles in the last 4 years, none of which have been on road). The only fault which appeared on the 80 or so mile run across was that the battery doesn't charge which the helpful folk on RSOLES have suggested might be the cut-out relay on the dash, so a bit of work there. Anyway - it's undercover now about 20 miles from home here in Oakham and the kit has been removed for safe-keeping, although there are a few items to get hold of still. I have just bought a ground monitor so that should be fun as and when the pump has been tried! The list of jobs is not great as she's in decent condition really. The odd patch of rust here and there (including on the nose above the wings), the nose needs a t-cut and polish, the early signs of rust on the chassis could do with brushing off followed by some paint, the rear roof needs replacing as the lino has cracked and disintegrated (more lino or rubber or flooring??), the battery charging fault needs sorting and the cab needs a bloody good clean!! Oh, and straighten out the rear nearside light which I bashed reversing ionto a tractor tyre.... The mirrirs have already been done - thankfully. Spafax mirrors are excellent! Most of that I can do myself, however, the brakes do need looking at badly as they stick on when stood even with the handbrake off. A contact has suggested CS Ellis near Oakham (who have a vintage fleet including a red Green Goddess) - which is handy - unless anyone else can suggest anywhere else in the Lincs / Rutland / Leics area? Any ideas welcomed! Cheers, Duncan.
  4. ...and in a fit of 'ooo, there's some cash in the bank', the dream of owning a Green Goddess has come true and I bought PGW 326 last week. Take delivery in November some time, just the minor matter of where to store it now....! In decent nick - it's been kept under cover for the last few years which makes a massive difference. With the front offside brake binding and the rear roof which needs stripping and replacing - that's about it! Just a good wash and polish. Updates as they happen! Cheers, Duncan.
  5. OK - some pics: Front - earlier this year: Rear: As it was in storage last year, kept company by mice!
  6. Thanks for the welcomes guys! Very kind. Next job on the ambi is to get the overdrive I've just bought on eBay fitted, which may improve the fuel consumption and reduce noise levels a touch. Hope it's OK - but that's the gamble ypou take buying one via eBay I guess - makes it exciting! Must get some pics up.... Makes me wish I had more regular access to my Land Rovers which are trapped up north with my parents at the mo due to no storage here in Rutland, hence the please in the 'storage' thread. Other than that, it might be a wander around local farms.... Likewise, if anyone has a Green Goddess to be offloaded in the next few months i might be (easily) persuaded, by which time I might have some space.... :yay: D
  7. Hi - looking for undercover storage for my Series 3 Land Rover ambi somewhere in the Oakham / Rutland / Leicestershire / Northants area. It has spent previous winters up north in a barn near my parents in Lancashire - great but it's 150 miles away making doing work on it a touch difficult, and the mice quite liked it as a home too! So it would be great it it were closer and handier to use! Drop me a line of you know of anywhere! :-D Thanks, Duncan.
  8. Wow - three! Good effort! All 109s? Will get some pics up as and when I can.....
  9. Not for the faint hearted? I bought my Series 3 ambi from them in 2007 and whilst it was complete and unmolested, having been outside for 10 years, yes it has required much work! Wiring, gearbox rebuild, new cylinder head (gasket had gone so that was the excuse needed....), countless little bits like door retainers, new roof vent covers etc. Just got an overdrive and still got the rotting top rail to weld too.... I shudder to think how much has been spent on it - way, way more than the £595 I paid for it! Still - all good fun and worth every penny. I think.... :-D When I went across to Blanchards to look, yes they had many - like about 100 or so! Virtually all S2A (only 8 or so S3 when I got mine), all right hand drive, all equally time worn. That's why they're still auctioning them off through eBay now, 4 years after I got mine! Dunno what's left now though....
  10. Haha - you say you fancy an ambulance, mine was a labour of love having bought it from Blanchards in 2007. It's needed a lot of work and TLC to get it up and running properly but it 75% of the way there now! Re-built gearbox, Turner stage 1 head and have just bought an overdrive so that's a job for the winter...... Still - all good fun, bags of character and you always get lots of stares! :-D
  11. Hi, just joined the forum. Owner of 2 ex-military Land Rovers, one a 1978 Series 3 Ambulance which is in fairly frequent use and the other a 1983 airportable which has sadly been in the garage for 5 years plus awaiting a time when it might be let out again. I'm based in Oakham in Rutland in the east midlands, however, the fleet currently lives ooop north in Lancashire with my parents at the moment. Would be nice to find storage somewhere closer; I do harbour dreams about having a Green Goddess as well some time soon.... We'll see! Cheers, Duncan.
