Oh yes Steve I know about the wrap around on a Flea. A friend of mine had a WDC with a plate wrapped round one of the rear stays. He swears it's original. So definitely a RE thing. Ron
  2. I often thought the WING and Triumph field stands are the same. Ron

You just reminded me of that and looking through my pictures, I can see a small 24 just to the left of 'JUNIOR' and on the crankcase below that 27 or 37? Photographic evidence required regarding the wrap around contract plate. I'd love to buy one of Rob Millers repro's. Ron

My own Welbike is from the first contract and has no holes for the contract plate. I assume there would be no need for a contract plate until the second contract where there might have been some changes or upgrading and therefore a different parts list. So it could be that the first 1200 didn't have a plate? I have seen lots of these JDL engines with different numbers, quite often prefixed XXA. I think these were normally used in Autocycles and mostly have longer manifolds and a cast ally expansion box. Funny what a difference in value a simple 'E' can make. Of course I have also seen them re-stamped. But that usually results in the loss of the embossed 'No' at the start of the number. Ron
  5. Hi Steve. As you can see I've just started posting on here. I'm not sure if the Harley's were popular with the RAF.....Or just forced on them Ha Ha!..... Like the 741's, I don't think they were well liked by the front line boys and therefore issued to the RAF and lower echelon units. Mind you, they are fun when you get used to them. As I always tell myself, when I go for a wobble on my 741. Ron
  6. I think you are probably quite right Carruthers. All the Norton shots seem to be on home ground. Although they did take Indian 741's overseas in 1945. Clearly the serial number was added to the rear guard on these. Photographs prove it is in order to paint a roundel on the forward part of the petrol tank, and RAF 12345. Ron
  7. OOPS Wrong picture posted. Ron
  8. Here is my WD/CO 1943 RAF contract. One of the bikes from my collection that I use regularly. Ron
  9. Unfortunately records for RAF motorcycle serial numbers are non existent. I have a few shots of wartime Ariel W/NG's in service with the RAF. I used these pictures and artistic licence to mark my own RAF Enfield. Ron
  10. I see Peter Long at Cornucopia is advertising on Milweb and has original Triumph field stands. Ron
  11. I would have to do a bit more research regarding the makes of pumps fitted originally. A couple of jumblers got together and had a large batch of nicely made repro pumps made, in about eight different sizes. I managed to furnish any of my bikes without pumps, with these repros. Unfortunately they are all sold now with no intention to repeat the order. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about a make as long as you can find the right length. Ron

Likewise I don't know all the differences. But apart from the MK1 not having a rear fender. The petrol tank pressings are different at the rear, and therefore also the frame attachment points. Also the first pattern MK1 tanks didn't have the filler cap on the left tank, which necessitated the removal of the pump from the right hand tank to fill with fuel. Also I don't think the MK1's had a contract plate as fitted to the MK2's on the plate at the bottom of saddle tube. Here is my MK1. Ron
  13. Hi Jenkinov. Yes the carrier is real. It took some getting! It's only the second one I've ever seen. In these pictures I still have my previous home made carrier fitted. Ron
  14. Hello Guy. Here is my 3SW. 3HW in background with welded lug. Ron
  15. Hello Jack and others. I thought it's about time I popped my head in the door. Jack seems to have forgotten my long term involvement with Weymouth! Probably because I haven't got one of those 'Man's Trucks'. Anyway I was on motorcycle convoy duty at the last A&E and a few will know me. But due to this years clashing of dates, my whole weekend will be taken up with the organisation of the parade at Weymouth. I'm pleased that we were able to persuade Weymouth council to see fit and allow the extra vehicles from A&E. These extra vehicles and lack of space will create and interesting challenge.....But we love it. Look forward to seeing you all at Lodmoor at 9am. Regards Ron Pier
  16. I took a tentative look here a couple of years ago when my son gave his old man a computer. I'm slowly getting used to it now, and I already recognize names from other forums. I'm in Poole, Dorset. My interests are mainly WW2 British forces vehicles, equipment, uniforms etc. I have some rare and interesting vehicles, but what has become my main passion, is owning, riding, restoring WW2 military motorcycles.
