  1. 29-31 Jan 2010 if you have not been before it is excellent and well worth the effort, you get well looked after and they even like a beer! (friday night its free!!!) details on the calender. some snaps from last year http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=11801 Baz
  2. Does not sound like big end as they usually rumble when not under load to begin with and generally a drop in pressure is noticeable, especially when hot. Big ends will also rumble/rattle when you first start the engine from cold then quiet down as the oil pressure builds up. is it a high pitch sound? could be a valve adjuster undoing itself (not uncommon) this will give a high pitch tap/tick but usually noticeable all the time. is it a "pinking" sound? from pre ignition. this will only happen under load. Baz
  3. Progress is being made on the old girl, will have some pics to prove soon Bit disappointed with the cab we got from Pete Gaine, supposedly grit blasted and high build filler primered....seems to be more filler and primed than blasted, either that or they were very gentle and left the green paint behind!!! anyway to late to grumble now. we had noticed a crack appearing on the rear of the cab where a patch had been welded (or so we thought) turns out it was soldered in and smothered in a ton of filler, unfortunately the solder did not cope with being touched and prodded and the patches fell out. so out with the welder and started to repair properly. other jobs done made new foot well floor pan made new floor pans repair some floor pans fitted fuel tank made new wooden mounts for vacuum tank fitted all cab levers fitted drivers seat base recored radiator and fitted i will take some pics this week, promise! 4. Dash ready for top coat of paint and found a nice old picture from a Ford dealership Spot welded some new Caged nuts on the dash mount and cross member as well. Made a tool to press new cages out myself after paying £2 each for a few!!!!
  5. Putting the cab back together on the OXC but the drivers seat base is missing, having never seen one before i am trying to figure out how it sits in the seat base. Any pictures or dimensions would be great so i can knock one up. Cheers Baz
  6. New cross member that i have made for the GTB. Plus found some interesting pictures of GTBs with the Dutch army in the East and West indies, some converted to gun trucks. more info here http://www.overvalwagen.com/guntrucks.html Baz
  7. Had a great morning, Peugeot ran like a dream. There were plenty of vehicles there considering the weather was gloomy. My favourite vehicle of the day would have to be the Diamond T type 201 (i think) pick up with a massive V8 and stack pipes.....or maybe the traction engine! i didn't take ay pics but a friend did so i will get some off him Cheers Baz

  10. Best engine i ever put in a series land rover was a Nissan SD33 3.3 6 cyl diesel, it outlasted two landy chassis and is now going in a third! it had 150K on the clock when it left the patrol and has easy done that again! find a LR engine that does that! oh and it would happily do 28mpg all day, best of all you could hear yourself think! Baz

  14. Its a great way to spend Boxing day morning, by 0900 the square is jammed packed with every type of vehicle you can imagine, really good social event. Its at Wickham, Hampshire. i'll be there in my Peugeot, first year with a vehicle that has doors and windows! Baz

  16. good on you mate, best of luck restoring them. Nice to see some brave (or mad) people out there :-) i have a dukw in wait for me as a future project, belongs to the father in law, bought it in 75 for £300 had 300 miles on the clock!
  17. i found that ATF dexron 2 worked best in all my LT77's (same box, smaller input shaft). its very close to land rovers oil but seemed to stop second gear crunching as much when abused! Baz
  18. apparently the wheels should be dark red/maroonish, the guy who restored met an old fella in france who used to sell them in Le Haye Du Puit, Normandy. He gave him an original garage badge that they put on all the cars they sold. It is now on the car. Baz
  19. must admit i could not resist the old girl, they have a real charm in the 30's and the prices are very reasonable (compared to Jeeps!) at the moment. Baz
  20. Well here is my latest toy, A 1934 Peugeot 301D, its all up and running but needed a set of tyres for an MOT, and they did not come cheap as they are metric rims. the scariest part was getting the tyres off and on as the wheels only have a small well on one side, by the valve! lets say it was hard work and nerve wrecking!! but they're done and it drives a treat a friend found some pictures of one pressed into use in WW2 so i am going to make up some markings on plates, at least i can take to military shows.
  21. Don't know the answer to this, its just what it says on the logbook. i believe motorbike and tractors are the same??? no doubt someone on here can come up with an answer?
