  1. CCKW owners have debated over the true color of the CCKW's from the factory paint color. Some have called it 'wet olive' yet when asked, they provide no further information... like they read it from a web site and that's all they knew.

Well, there are actually PLENTY of sources for FACTORY CORRECT 1930's-40's-50's-60's GM Olive paint for 6 cylinder engines.

I bought some and painted up a test valve cover. This is what it look like.

My jeep is painted in 319 WWII Lusterless paint (some call it an early war OD).

    It is olive-y.

Anyone have any opinions if its accurate? Most of the forums that I asked about the paint have said that YES, that's the right color for a 40's era GM/Chevy/GMC engine.

I have added more pictures and photos of the complete process http://www.tm9-801.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=763

Have to say that that looks v smart :)

  2. Guys, I feel the engine is cranking over too slowly on start-up (from cold). That said I've only heard a couple of others start up, so I'm looking to those more knowledgeable to share their thoughts please.

    Points to note:

    - It's a 6 volt system.

    - The battery was new last Jun.

    - The battery was fully charged.

    - I've cleaned the battery terminals recently (it made no difference)

    - I've cleaned the connection on the earth strap on the chassis recently (it made no difference).

    - I've cleaned the connection on the starter switch yesterday (it made no difference). (Condition of bolt 'poor').

    - I pulled back the metal band and inspected the contacts. Armature is clean and the contacts look almost new.

    - I didn't expect the engine to start on this crank, as the choke wasn't out and I hadn't pumped the accelerator.

    - Lubricated the end bearing recently.

    - No idea when the starter was last removed and the front bearing lubricated.

I'm planning to buy a multimeter to do a resistance check on the wiring.

    Ideas, comments, observations ?

    As an aside,

    1. What do you use to lubricate the starter linkage ? The TM doesn't say (unless I'm missing it).

    2. Anyone have a diagram or photos showing the inside of the switch ?

    Kind regards to all

  3. Hi Vulture

Here's a couple of pics of my truck, found it in some woods a couple years ago with no body, repaired cab waistband and door bottoms, found a body for sale in yorkshire, had to replace stake pockets, put new valves in head, s'steel exhaust, new canvases, now saving up for some petrol, lots of small jobs still to do, seem to take twice as long as they should do!

Hey Warrior, looks like you've done a great job there . It was certainly looking pretty tatty when you got it ! I like the bit, "saving for petrol", I soooooo know what you mean !

    Kind regards

  4. Excellent Pics Ian !

was a bit cold when you were there then ? just about the time the hail shower started ?

I never got the chance to get a pic of the three Reo's together , thanks for sharing !

    cheers

    John

    John

Yes it was quite cold whilst I was there. I left just as the rain was starting. I really liked the Reo's, first time I've had an opportunity for a close look around one and in the cab.

  5. DUKWs will have a field day! By the way, don't forget it is illegal to clean them! Water is short.

DUKWs would, if we had any coming along. Yessss, water is in short supply...apparently ! Although looking out the window of my study this morning, that certainly doesn't appear to be the case ! The BBC Weather forecast (not that I really believe it), says that it might be dry tomorrow, (fingers crossed they are right). The organiser and myself will make the decision (based on the weather at the time and the forecast) at 10:45 whether to proceed with the event, or call it off.

  6. Hi Guys

Whilst up attending a wedding and visiting the out-laws in Gods own County, I was able to get across to York to see the gathering of vehicles for the Yorkshire Area MVT Crank-Up on 15 Apr 2012. Here's some of the photos I took.

    Kind regards to all

The FBHVC is pleased to announce the results of its fuel stability additive test programme. This research was designed to test the anti-corrosive properties of proprietary additives claiming to provide a high level of protection against potential corrosion of fuel systems, including tanks, pipework and fuel metering equipment on historic vehicles caused by the addition of ethanol into petrol.VSPe Power Plus, VSPe and EPS from Millers Oils; Ethomix from Frost A R T Ltd; Ethanolmate from Flexolite all received an ‘A’ rating in the research which enables all these products carry an endorsement from the FBHVC. The endorsement is in the form of the FBHVC logo and the words: ‘endorsed by the FBHVC as a fuel additive for protection against corrosion in metals’.All additive manufacturers and suppliers were approached in 2011 to provide test samples for this research which was designed to simulate storage in a vehicle’s fuel tank for a 12 month period. The FBHVC’s conference last October majored on the effects of ethanol in petrol with presentations from industry experts. It identified three issues to be considered: corrosion, compatibility and combustion. The Federation has been represented at a Fuel Stakeholders meetings with the DfT.For details of the products please contact:Millers’ Oils – email: enquiries@millersoils.co.uk; website:

Drive It Day is always held on the nearest Sunday to 23 April. This date was chosen in 2005 to commemorate the 64 cars that set off from London on 23 April 1900 on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial. An incredible undertaking and one which we believe deserves an annual celebration. Link

  10. HI ALL

Nearly ready for road testing my gmc project, i need to change engine and gearbox oils, what oil and grade do you chaps

    recommend? morris oils seem popular.

    Cheers Warrior:cheesy:

    Hi Warrior

Here in the UK Comma do a range of oils which are readily available in lots of outlets. I've used their Classic 30 in my CCKW. As for the Gearbox and Diffs, as Degsy says, there are differing opinions held on the forum over whether to use GL4 or GL5. IMHO, given what I've read, both will probably be okay, but myself I've still to make a final decision... I'm sure you've seen it, but this thread is the one to follow. Link.

    Kind regards

P.S. Care to share a photo of your truck ?

  11. :-(

    Well, call us Nuts :D.

All the more ore even less usable bolts, nuts, washers and small parts were brushed on a wire brush machine and then new electroplated. All the nuts and bolts that were rotten or too far rusted were replaced at very low cost in the form of replacements from the local John Deere dealer (Also green but another shade ;)) as UNC/UNF is not so easy obtained

here in Holland as we are totally metrified.

Her is a picture of the electroplated bolts, nuts and washers when they came in :).

    spitty

Nice work ! I could do with some of those bolts to replace few missing and dodgy ones I have ! :)

  12. Ok ok I think I have teased you all enough so here you go.. Please note no vac line to hydrovac, throtle linkage or rocker cover breather connected yet.

mmmmm Weber 4 barrel with vac secondaries....

No it's not leaning over it is the angle of the camera, although the inlet manifold is not level ( front to back ) and the carb is.

    Front view looking towards cab.

mmmm square carb mounting plate to round tube to fit the manifold tube assy now that's a challenge :nut:

Looking down from the side. We will have to see how it does or doesn't perform

Awesome !! :) :dancinggirls: The purists will be offended, but I'm fascinated to hear how it performs ! :)
